Well, new and old part sure look more seamlessly attached to each other now. However, I'm a bit worried whether the overall look is now too devoid of any colour. This is emphasised by the windows on the side walls, which are also quite dull so far. 34.gif

T Wreks , mon ami, you are right, I have to work definitively on textures for the walls of the tower at least on the sides East and West. I also have to put some ground maps for reflection on the windows , I am currently looking for good Nathan Road pics ( very crowdy and  lot of cars ) . If Hong Kong have something I 'll humbly accept...!2.gif

    Okay friends! I'm back!

    12.gif maybe more...!

Very sorry guys to let you with no news! I had to face rendering pb when I add lateral maps for the windows reflection to try to avoid what T-Wrecks explained very clearly:

" However, I'm a bit worried whether the overall look is now too devoid of any colour. This is emphasised by the windows on the side walls, which are also quite dull so far. 34.gif"

I got again the black spot on the pavement around the fountain (same pb I already mentioned before) and I spent quite a lot to identify the origin of it! I hope it will be shortly solved  as I'll bat a new pavement...!

Here after a pick showing the pb!

    blckspot.th.jpg

So, I temporally remove the pavement and spent most of the time in rendering , working on the planes!

I also add evacuation pipes on the sides (but I'm sure you 'll notice it).

Please fill free to comment, I shall finish the day project by adding the shop names and few other details like lateral doors on the top of tower and some junks at this level too (I am not talking of the helipad level which just need to have the "1" nb on the Left heliport)

    Now the pics:

It's coming along well, and it's good that the day is nearing completion.  Here are my thoughts:

I don't remember which version of 3ds max you're using, or what version this feature starts in, but there's something called Ambient Occlusion, and in the arch & design material it is conveniently built in.  In the arch & design material, if you scroll down there is a rollout called Special Effects, and inside of it there's ambient occlusion (AO).  You can google it to learn more, but basically AO creates contact shadows and can help define small details, and is especailly good for the shadow side of the building.  I usually put the distance at 3 meters for BATing purposes.

I think the lower windows on the north side of the building would look better if they were darker.

Right now the ornament that surrounds each window is different from the wall behind it.  Should it be different, or should it be matched more closely with the wall?

The building as a whole is still very grey.  You can photoshop the building into a screenshot from the game to see how grey it is in comparison.

Hi Jason! thanx for the tip! I am using max 2010!

I found the AO! Do I have to change the other settings or let them are they are by default?

I will make the windows darker in order to fit better with the walls!

As you did suggest, I photoshoped the bat into a game screenshot! What do you think?

... I think its coming along great, adjustments recommended seem to have tweaked to the next level perhaps to the point of lotting it... sorry about not offering anything insight-fully technical, its the sort of hotel I'd like to check into a real sim 5 star place

Well this building really is a feast for the eyes!  I've been following its development from the start.  I applaud your attention to detail and your commitment to make it the best it could possibly be.  I'm an amateur in comparison, so I don't have any criticisms to add, just keep up the good work!  It already looks perfect to me.

The glass looks fantastic now IMO, unless someoen more technical can spot some faults I would say get on with the nightlighting as most people are eagerley anticipating this bad boy.

Hi my friends! So lets start the nitelires! As I didn't practice for few months I have to recover my "marks" but it's like riding a bicycle...! you never forget completly!

Before showing some starting results, I would like to mention that I have an error message concerning the area shadows I am using for the nitelites!

    areashadowsmessageerror.th.jpg

If somebody have an explaination i'll be very grateful!

And now the first result! I am currently working on the terrace of the old Bdg, where there is the pool entrance:

    nitelites00.th.jpg

I will work later on the nitelites for the windows, so it's not necessary to mention it! thanks for your comprehension!44.gif
