East Tenne: The Heart of It All

The Supreme Wirdle's establishment of the Tenne River Delta National Park set aside an array of islands in the river delta as nature preserves. Several islands have established fish camps but only one has a permanent settlement. The one island with a village on it is the small heart shaped island in the middle of the delta. Heart Island has become the welcome center for the national park, as no other delta towns were established when the decree was made. The town of Hartzkollår takes its name from the unusually shaped island and a favorite garment of many felines, the Hartz collar.

    pPETS-3762062t400.jpg

An unusual aspect this small agrarian delta village is its throwback architecture. This is the first settlement to "revive" a style of architecture from the past and update it to contemporary standards. Inspired by the medieval Stick Style architecture of old Schulmanicus, this town's style could best be referred to as "Stick Revival". There are both wooden structures with exposed timber framing members, a hallmark of the Stick Style, and newer buildings built in a similar style but featuring more stonework and stucco.

The village has an indistinct center, with no civic plaza. There are a few civic structures, a small school, a clinic, churches, and a Bureau of Feline Affairs administrative building. The majority of other structures are residences and small businesses. Several residences are small farms, but most are homes for fisheries workers and crafts workers. The town is ably run by the Bureau of Feline Affairs. Governor-General H. J. "Hoppy" Franciflora has appointed his close friend Spot Datanoonian Soong as the town's administrator.

We begin our tour with an overview of the island itself.

    1overview.jpg

Easy to see how Heart Island got its name...

Let us first visit the farms on the periphery. The small farms add to the locals' diet, but do not produce all of the food the village requires. Fishing is the main source of income and of food.

    farm1-1.jpg

    It is catnip harvest time.

    farm2-1.jpg

Here, farmer L. J. Silver grows chips to go with the fish he catches.

    farm3.jpg

This vegetable patch will provide fillings for meat pies.

    farm4.jpg

    Catnip, anyone?

    farm5.jpg

Next year should be a bountiful harvest at Mr. Greenjean's farm.

    farm7.jpg

Though Farmer Redwale's pick your own Brussels sprout farm has not done well this season...

Commerce is mostly limited to the main intersection in town, along Hartz Street and Liver Lane. There is one restaurant in the village, the ubiquitous Chicken King. The main draw for tourists to the area is the visitor center for the Tenne River Delta National Park.

    2main1.jpg

A conglomeration of Stick Revival structures here on Hartz Street houses the Fisheries Office and several local businesses.

    2main2.jpg

A unique feature of the village is its dedication to local artist Meowco Angelo. An oversize outdoor sculpture bearing one of his most famous works, The Fancy Feast Bringer, has been erected next to his studio.

    2main3.jpg

The Bureau of Feline Affairs building is at the right, It serves as the town's administration building as well as housing the local school, library, and a lovely gallery of Meowco Angelo's works in the lobby. This is an adaptation of Stick Style buildings first seen in Hammers, located on an island to the north.

    2main4.jpg

The only restaurant in town is the Chicken King. It does a brisk business, as it is next door to the Tenne River Delta National Park Visitor Center. The center, at right, provides passes to those who want to visit the undeveloped islands. It also features a gift shop and litterbox facilities.

    2main5.jpg

There are two churches in town. The friendly rivals often compete in categories such as potluck dinners and good deeds.

    3e.jpg

The current Best Potluck Dinner Award goes to Chapel of the Black Cat, which is adjacent to the visitor center.

Let's now explore the town in greater detail. As Heart Island is small, the tour should not take very long. Please make sure you are wearing comfortable shoes.

    3a.jpg

    3f.jpg

Small gardens bracket the homes on Whiskas Lane.

    3b.jpg

The woods behind the buildings are great places for hunting small game, especially chipmunks - the cherry tomato of the cat salad.

We close the tour with broader views of the charming small island.

Chipmunks are the cherry tomato of cat salads! Yer killin' me! ROTFL!!!!

Hey, I, for one would be happy to pick all the Brussels sprouts I can carry at that farm. Email me directions to Farmer Redwale's place! Wait! I think I've been there before. Great tasting Brussels sprouts. You should try them again.

The Supreme chose a great Island for her establishment.  The shape is unmatched in any of her holdings. Very lovely too.

Y'know, I've always loved meat pies and English roasts, but you can't find ANYTHING like that in Japan. It's all fish and noodles here, which is good in its own right, but sometimes you just want a good meat-and-potatoes meal especially when it's the dead of winter and it's cold.

Anyways, very lovely town, this. Nice pictures all around. That Meowco Angelo is quite the artist, eh? He just might be able to build his reputation up a little bit there, eh? (as well as that of the island)

Leech10 You think that's strong? If the cat was wet, it would have had the strength of ten Klingon warriors!

Hester Mr T. would pity that fool!

Explodingsims Trust me, it was awesome! 3.gif Thanks! 3.gif

Leech10 Indeed. And I have five chapters to add to the PDF archive soon as well. I have the next census about 1/3 done. And, I am still trying to determine what I should do about a travel and tourism page for Schulmania. Decisions, decisions...

Hester Thanks. I had a person or two who wanted to see the pictures at larger sizes than I put in the web update.

Jacqulina Thanks! I earned my diploma from the Jacqulina School of Terraforming!

    Leech10 Thanks, B&B!

ComputerGuy890100 Thanks! Glad you liked this new natural area.

Explodingsims Thanks! I hope you like the Hartzkollår village with the visitor center as well.

    Csgcseri köszönöm!

Benedict Thanks! I am glad you like the park. And I am glad I spent some time on the little islands to pretty them up. I was going to leave them with only Maxis trees and decided that I should do better.

NMUSpidey True... you have to travel far to the east to get to Wayne Manor.

Zelgadis Thanks.... I have been studying at her terraforming school. I am working on the flora and details more too. Jacky gave me the inspiration to do so.

PhatHead A lasagna OD will do that to you... 3.gif

Dfnva Thanks! I am trying to use a greater variety of flora and more rocks and such to give it a more authentic feel to it.

Tomasneto Obrigado, meu amigo. Always glad to see you back in Schulmania.

Hester Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!! Are your tastebuds on strike or something???!!!

Leech10 I know... those should be classified as WMDs.

    ComputerGuy890100 Thanks!

    Tomasneto Obrigado outra vez!

Twenty20 It would be a great place to be... very tranquil. Merci!

NMUSpidey Meowco Angelo has just received a commission to carve a nice marble statue, the Paw-ietá.

Pipishere If it only had a chocolate taste to it, that would be awesome! Thanks!

A Double Shot of Schulmania's Love

Two exciting features to reveal in Schulmania today: the addition of five new chapters on the Schulmania Simtropolis Archive and the all-new Census 5. Because the two updates are multipage in length and, at full size, would be way too big to post, I am providing you with links to them. Please follow the links shown below to see the new stuff. And, perhaps an old favorite thrown in further down for your amusement.

    SHOT 1: The Simtropolis Archive
    cat20reading20book-789854.jpg
Click on the picture above to be whisked away to the Simtropolis archive, featuring five new chapters. New are the four latest East Atkinos chapters and Chapter 18 of South Wirdleonia.

    SHOT 2: The All-New Census 5
    censuspic.jpg
Click on the picture above to be taken to the Census... find out how many Schulminions there are these days and where they all live. Which are the biggest cities? Most populous districts? Find out all of this and ore! Well, not much more. But a little more.

    BONUS SHOT:
There's all sorts of other stuff to see about Schulmania... here's a review of a few tidbits you may find interesting. (If, for some reason you don't, just smile and nod politely and change the subject. A suggestion - Rhode Island is neither a road nor an island - discuss. )

Brian2.jpgBrian: Babalonia still hasn't grown... you would think they might need additional people there now that the population is growing everywhere else.
