Nice bridge and update. Good use of government contracting, hopefully part of a stimulus package haha.

I guess the Schuls didnt want to go across the "street" by boat anymore so they built that monster of a crossing using bricks. Great marvel, the only crossing between the islands and its not even modern. Good work.

I'm now sending over Vice Lord Lynx in Carpathia II to beam it onto his starship.  That'll freak everyone out.quote>

I believe he's at Narrows right now having a chat with Commander Panin. 3.gif

Yay! The first bridge! This technological advancement can now spread like wildfire throughout the rest of the realm! The next step? Perhaps making one high enough to allow ships to pass underneath. Reach for the stars, Schulminions!

OMG! A bridge! What a marvel! The ppl must be astounded! ... Of course, one that lets boats through would be helpful... when I built a causeway to get to my city, I added raised bridges in the middle. It allowed water to flow through from the river and boats to pass under it. Good luck on Schulmania construction projects tho!

OMG I love that picture with the cat crossing her bridge. And before I go any farther, let me tell you that your update was perfection! That bridge just rocks!!! I have never seen anything like that! That was excellent work. I loved your coming back there to update a region that hasn't been updated in quite awhile. The waters, the buildings, the temples, and whoa! that bridge, LOVED the narrative you wrote too. I love that sense of humor you have.

GOOD NEWS! In a Schulmania first, there will be a re-do of an update. CAL has tweaked the bridge lot just a bit so I will put in the revised version and show everyone SchulMarvel 1.1 in the next update. When it is posted, just pretend like you didn't see the first one!

Please note: This is a do-over of the previous update. Callagrafx, who made the lovely bridge, modified it somewhat to add steps to the ends and a few other minor changes. So, I took some pix of the revised bridge and incorporated them into the update so you can see how it looks now. I hope you like version 1.1 of the update.

    Atkinos: Across Cawale Strait (v1.1)

    Atkinos-port.jpg
Atkinos and Gran Maru stare across the Cawale Strait at one another. This has been the only way to cross between them - until now.

Governor Cawale has been looking for ways to speed up transit across the busy strait. Her solution - contact the Transit Office to develop a new mode of transit to speed things up. The Transit Office contracted with CAL Engineering, led by the capable and esteemed Lee Callagrafx. CAL Engineering revived an idea first promoted for the original Schulmericho city plan but was never built. The novel concept? The bridge. Until now, all interisland transport has been done by ferries or other boats. Now, extensive plans have been made to actually build one. A team of engineers has been hard at work designing a stone span which will cross the Cawale Strait, giving the first direct connection between Atkinos and Gran Maru.

A site has been selected connecting the Via Balenarossa in Gran Maru with the Atkinos coast. Site preparation involves some reconfiguration of the Via Balenarossa terminus to allow for a bridgehead and for some terrain leveling on the Atkinos side. Some dredging in the strait will be needed to built up a small islet in the middle to help support the weight of the massive span envisioned. CAL Engineering has estimated it will take a team of 2,500 designers and builders to create the structure they have envisioned. Hundreds of stonemasons will be subcontracted to extract quality rock from quarries in Devonshire to build this ambitious project.

    Stonecutters.jpg

Local Stonecutters are quite excited about the added business.

    frink.jpg

Construction Foreman Bill Ding is uncertain if such an audacious project can be completed.

    HelenLovejoy_t630.jpg

Local gossip Lotta Tallkin fears for the future if this project is completed. She's quite a busybody... maybe she needs a hobby.

CAL Engineering was able to design a fabulous stone structure and contracted with VAN Enterprises to build it. VAN Enterprises has been busy securing a large number of contracts as of late. Governor Cawale received a large bouquet of flowers and a box of Busscastle Chocolates at her office just before the contract was let. I am sure there is no connection between the contract and the gift.

Work began right away on both ends of the bridge project. Excellent logistical support and expert engineering led to a speedy completion of the project, which is due for its grand opening today.

    a002.jpg
The Atkinos side of the bridge features a cut stone walkway flanked by Schulminion flags. The walkway leads out onto the water, creating Schulmania's first bridge.
The redesigned neighborhood on the Atkinos side has been leveled and features new construction. The pink domed building is the Transit Office's Bridge Authority Building. The graceful stone arches of the Cawale Strait Bridge march across the water from Atkinos.

This marvel of Schulminion engineering will link the two islands physically and culturally. The commercial impact of the bridge will be significant as well. Welcome to the Cawale Strait Bridge!
