That last skyline shot looks good, now I can view my city from more perspectives than isometric. Glad to see more landmarks revealed also;  the Dakota Apartments, Bloomberg Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center (?) among others.

Though, I might need a new computer for all of this.

Wow, nice pics. I haven't been this excited about a new city sim game since simcity 4 was announced in 2002.

Weather is probably one of the most difficult parts to program. I was surprised it could rain in SCS. Now the problem is that there is not a single cloud in the sky in any of the screenshots. I would expect so much in the earlier parts of the game but no snowy or lush green areas have only clear skies (although I am very glad that stars are barely visible in the night shot) so it is possible that weather will be a GEM. In the last two pictures it looks like the sun is shining too brightly and there is no smog.

Summary: I wouldn't be sad if weather is a GEM is not implemented in the base game at all (it looks like a really good game).

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

SO...when's this blasted thing coming out anyway? What about the custom content creator I've been hearing about?

Well, if it means refining the game in the best way possible, you can take as much time as you want. I prefer something that is at its best after a long time than something half done *cough, SCS, Cough*

Night lights are off a bit, very repetitive, but the day looks great. Especially since I got my monstrous new video card and a wide screen monitor 3.gif

Thanks a million for giving us something to look forward to Philippe,

-Todd

Dear Sim Dieties! Holy freaking crap!

Do I have to upgrade to a Cray4000 or what? Should I call the electric company and have an industrial style distribution box installed soon?

I'm guessing at least 2core CPU and GHZ speed video capability for anything more than base visuals? Anyplace with expected minimum and suggested hardware?

I'm otherwise impressed beyond words at what's here and what I've seen on the Cities site.

Finally, a game that may well be able to get me off SC4. Not that I want weaned off SC4, I love the game, but I've always wondered what it would take to get me to stop playing it...

Most of the buildings are new. BUT, some of the building are form City Life 2008 and World Edition. The famous landmarks are not a huge deal in my point of view. But I'm talking about bussiness, houses and apartments, etc. Speaking of buildings I heard there is about 600-700 buildings in this game when its finshed. But it varies so it might be an estimate of 400-600 buildings.

And before anyone asks, I'll go ahead and quote a few answers to questions:

Roads my way? Rural highway, country route road (no sidewalks), two-laned road with center turning lane? Why are those sidewalks so huge?

How about the option for a house to have a 3-acre lot? Maybe a dirt road up a mountain?

I'm not to impressed 15.gif . Just wish someone would create a game that would allow me to create a authentic city 4.gif

New screenshots show that MonteCristo had fixed bad shadow problem their earlier screen shots had shown. That's good. But there are no dynamic reflexions still... That's bad...

Another thing that sounds a bit worrying is the financial model Monte Cristo planning for the game. If I read this correct (http://www.redherring.com/Home/25656) we should NOT expect any type of BAT to be released. Apparently MC learn from EA/Maxis mistake when it shoot itself in the leg by making flood of custom content available for free. FWith CityXl you'll have to PAY for all extras!!!

Although it is good for MC it wouldn't be for the community.

hm...

I wonder how the game will simulate the neighborhoods...

It's hard to get a clean masion neighborhood in SC4 without plopping, I always wished that you can kinda like assign the wealth also and not just the density.

anyways, I'm still looking forward to eventually hold XL in my hands and play it on my new pc (that is yet to come tho but kicks you-know-what)

Two things id like to bring up...

1. As someone else noted, the night lighting is repetitive, I think it would help if there was less lights on and that those that are, are sporadically placed and sometimes clustered. It is not a very big deal though.

2. I still do not see any wall to wall buildings. This is quite a big issue and I hope that Monte Cristo will find a solution to it.

Other than that it looks really really good. The models and rendering is breathtaking.

P.S. The sidewalks are still pretty large, and because sidewalks, cars, people etc are very important for scale reference it impacts the impression of the scale of everything else (buildings especially).

Good luck again, with the further development of the simulator.

You are correct, it seems there are in screenshots like this

MegaScreen0007wlogo.jpg

Sorry, i was too fast with my conclusion, probably due to seeing buildings that im used to see in w2w situation standing alone. It seems to work pretty well in places.

I take that back then and I am happy too see there are. Sorry.

Looking at the pictures on the actual site is a whole lot better than viewing them here. They're truly incredible and I actually thought I was looking at a real photo in one of them.
