My (*****ish) two cents: (This asterisk word is 4 letters for a complete neophtye, not sure what's up with that...)

I agree that the graphics and all are disappointing; much too uniform, undetailed, and bright, but we really have to face the truth.

Creating a game that is basically CAD with a simulator (as appears to be desired) is impractical from an economic sense. Besides being difficult to learn and thus failing to recruit new customers, the game would take decades to create with huge amounts of money put into development. We really can't believe that they're going to put massive amounts of work into making it ubber realistic, customizable, etc., just to cater to a small (I would call a few thousand small) community of devotees that will inevitably not produce a profit.

It would be great, but will not happen until technology improves.

(But if they DID put a lot of money into it, and then exclusively pattented some amazing new technology...)

Please tell me if I'm completely wrong, since I really don't know what I'm talking about anyway. :-)

They did put a lot of effort into this game. Did you read their blogs on the citiesxl website? The future patches will make this game more realistic. Particle Effects is one of the things being worked on that's missing in the current screenshots. Is there a release date yet??

Oh, yes, of course! I don't mean that I don't acknowledge the years of effort Monte Cristo has put into the game. I'm just saying, they do have other customers, and they do need to start selling it eventually.

I'm very glad to hear that the screenshots are still missing graphics effects (affects?). Can't wait for the game.

Warning Patrick is going to speak runnn!!!

17.gif17.gif17.gif17.gif17.gif

OK So now I've seen post both on CXL development and will SC4 die, well so here is my ramblings on this whole thing and what it will boil down to is based off some pictures....

For one I will let this out right now that I will never ever give up on SC4 as I am finally learning how to really get in to it with the help of the COMMUNITY!!!!  Thats right I have a lot of love for this game that is now 6 years old and still growing strong today because of the help of the community by the community!!!! When that help is out there its that is soo user friendly...

I cant say nothing against CXL at all because I haven't played the game yet and far as I know NO ONE has either other then MC....  Yes the pictures do look real great and can be very promising but will it be for me??? I dunno yet???

49.gif

I think if MC would allow the community to help them I think honestly they would then benefit the most... I mean more then just doing the buildings... What I mean is IE NAM, RAM, TEAM encouragement and support!!!!

Heck I bet if MC allowed that then maybe well I dunno I cant speculate to much on that...  As if I remember right that MC wanted to charge for adding more content then what was giving with the game?

But then again in all of this what do we all honestly know except what MC has showed us and told us??? So till CXL actually comes out all we can do is sit back and enjoy the development ride as we did with the development of RHW 3.0!!!

So that is all I got to honestly point out here

From the last blog.

And a brand-new Beach GEM picture from cyberstage.com. Apparently, buildings don't need road connection. 4.gif

When did the buildings start conforming to curved roads? One of the earlier complaints was that, while we had curved roads, the buildings did not conform. Has it been like this for a while, or what?

The effect is quite startling.

And the terrain...wow. Stunning.

Buildings don't conform to curved roads... but lots apparently do. Although it appear that road in those built up spots isn't real curve but a set of angular segments. Still it looks very good!

but personally for me the greatest this that these new screen shots show is how the shadows are done now. They are nicely airy and fall on all the models.

^^^ Unfortunately, blueprints  such as Tour Eiffel, Colossus of Rhodes and Statue of Liberty (but not landmarks like Empire State Building) are for MMO mode ONLY. At least, that's what we know at this time... 15.gif

Doesn't the game have different suspension bridges? I like the golden gate bridge but it needs more suspension bridges like the Brooklyn bridge and others. Also will there be railroads?

Hi guys,

Thanks in behalf of the whole dev team for your great comments on the screenies. 2.gif

buildsolid, to answer your question, some buildings like the Eiffel Tower you just saw will require you real time to be built... How fast you will build them? It will depend on your city management skills (to create part of the required tokens), your trading skills (to get from other player cities the tokens you do not produce yourself) and the limit of tokens you can allocate to such buildings per day. And maybe some more... 2.gif

He doesn't have to reply to anything. Just be pleased he's here. The screen with the Chrysler building is stunning, I thought it was real for a second 4.gif

I see a lot of buildings that look like buildings from LA in these screenshots (like Westin Bonaventure, Figueroa at Wilshire), as well as other iconic buildings from other cities. I like this.

I hope there'll be a lot of buildings like these.

speaking of buildings, idk if this was asked already, but is there going to be something like tilesets as we know them from sc? so we can push the city in a certain visual direction (like eastcoast, westcoast, european, asian and so on)?

Wow, guys you need to gives these guys a real break they are stepping up to the plate and developing something that no one seems to care about lately (City building games) especially after games producers have supposedly nailed the coffin on PC only games, but i agree their last attempt was something like the horrid SC:S that most of us have shunned and ignored but i trust this forum... and since nothing major is reported here i am going to definitely buy this game and pay a monthly fee if needed if that means that they wont forget us and if they finally allow custom content in even if that means trough their servers then that would be even better. (Custom content is the only way MC! look at the sims2/3)

I used to hate monto cristo but their care to listen and read and reply has won me over now i need to see those pictures live up to their basic dreams and that is a playable fun realistic and deep game play and not a game a 12 year old can pick up and play sadly they will be more then happy to play Simcity:Kids (SC:S)

Please no classes simply rich and poor is enough in this modern and cosmopolitan world.

True... sometimes I just don't have the time to read through all the forums and answer all of them. 3.gif

So, yes, we'll have different bridges with different widths and styles. 2.gif
