How can I make a more realistic city?
Aarmin replied to Aarmin's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I only get abandonment when I plot residential homes or apartments, not when I grow theme. This is with the NAM as well. Besides, if I plot (with the plot modification) resident buildings they are not zoned as residential (green), and leave a blank space on the map. This also goes for commercial and industrial. I think I will call it quits for now; at least until my computer parts get here. My old Gateway laptop is drowning -

How can I make a more realistic city?

Hey Hawkeye, I actually donated a considerable amount for Volume 1 & 2 STEX collection! My internet is somewhat slow, so I havn't fully explored the downloadable content. I'm still greatly concerned about mansions growing next to normal houses, which is just ridiculously stupid. I also hate how buildings change, not that it matters, since I cant create a historical part of downtown (for example). I am sure I will not be able to get this game to play the way I want (unless I can hand pick all buildings myself? ). Thanks for the link; the NAM looks like a must have! -
Roads my way? Rural highway, country route road (no sidewalks), two-laned road with center turning lane? Why are those sidewalks so huge? How about the option for a house to have a 3-acre lot? Maybe a dirt road up a mountain? I'm not to impressed . Just wish someone would create a game that would allow me to create a authentic city

I have been testing out SC4 rush hour the last couple of days, and simply can not stand the game. However, when I look at a number of city journals in the community, I keeps bringing me back to the game. How do you guys/gals do it? A number of your cities looks fairly authentic, but mine always ends up looking like childsplay. I don't even feel like its my fault. Why do mansions "grow" next door to normal houses? Why do the buildings change around all the time? Why do I get traffic on housing -community streets? I wish there was a way to pick what buildings go where instead of the stupid "grow" feature. I would like to create a authentic looking city.

First thing, I am a newb, not just to this forum but building a computer; so consider this Windows Vista... neh or yeah? Do they even sell XP anymore? I really want Vista, call me crazy but I am perfectly ok with it. It looks nice, unlike XPs rainbow colors. Overall, doesn't just about everyone play SC4 on Vista? I hear that ATI graphics do not get along with SC4 to well? I am also confused about the mixed thoughs on dual-core processors; even that, what about quad-core? Forgive me, but I really want to get into SC4 again. I've played it before, but not the rush hour expansion and all the new tricks that I have found on simtropolis. Plus the Journals here are really enspiring .
