What a great opportunity! As of right now, I'm not going to buy SCS, but this may change my mind.

I'm still extremely wary of even calling this game "Sim City" and up until now have pretty much forbidden myself from ever purchasing this game, and I still highly doubt that EA will climb off of it's high horse and change the so despised apparently core elements of this game. BUT this is a good sign... perhaps if the representatives of this community give them a firm enough slap in the face with what people who have actually supported and loved this game over the years want. Then maybe... just maybe they might delay the release and take a fresh look at the entire core gameplay and do a lot of reworking.

But then again. I'm a dreamer. A really big one.

Well today's the day. I hope the day is going/has gone well for you. Like the rest of us here, we are all concerned about where the game is heading. I hope you thanked EA and Tilted Mills for giving you the opportunity to meet with them. I don't think this happens too often with other game developers and game fans.

This is all very interesting news. Were the guys (Ryan/Dirk) planning to meet up with any of us fans living here in the SF Bay Area? Could've been cool to have some sort of mini Simtropolis meet and greet party/convention thing.

Well the event is over and in the books. We enjoyed meeting the other site admins and the producers of Societies. Our final write up isn't remotely ready but you'll know about it as soon as it is. We got a lot of exclusive screenshots to show you and a lot of hands on play time to tell you about.

    Hello all,

We have just finished our day at EA. We've met up with the other two fansite folks, both great guys. Our day started at 9am sharp, and we did a lot of talking, asking questions as well as answering EA's questions. We've had about 3 hours of hands-on time with SimCity Societies. There's plenty to show and more to tell. We are starting to put together our impressions, and will post when it's ready.

EA was very gracious for having us in, big thanks to EA for the opportunity.

I was going to warn you not to drink the punch, but the day has passed...

If you go to start -> all programs -> accessories -> system tools -> character map

    (Windows XP instructions)

You will see a large amount of various characters to pick from. From there you can pick the "?" and copy and paste it where ever you want.

I hope there will be some really good news out of this. But even if our voices have been heard, do you really think that EA will go back to the drawing boards and start from scratch? Regardless, at least EA and Tilted Mills have heard our concerns.

for all we know they might of knew we have concerns before the game was made public news because Will Wright had some say that simcity needed to have a new direction, so this visit might be to ressure the fans that at the core of the game its still the simcity we know and love

im hopeing to see some disaters in the screenies, i really really hope twisters are back 9.gif

I for one wouldnt want to be in either of there shoes right now, how can they tell us if they dont like SCS ? I think there hands maybe tied , in some respect .

If had had been to ea and seen something i loved about SCS id be shouting quite loud about it, right now even if i didnt have the time to complete a full report just yet, the silence is making me nervous.

only get to say what you think once because everyone going to be waiting for this plus there probably tired from all the traveling, if were me i be working hard to just get everything i wanted to say into a decent report which is what there doing

makes sense really theres no point in a small post which could start good or bad things and rumours spread etc

Sit tight. I am now back in Canada, however, I have just learned that during my absence Strider had to be taken to the emergency vet clinic. Silly dog!

Anyway, our report will be quite thorough and I expect it to be quite lengthy. I did a lot of writing while whittling away the hours at the airport, and there's lots that needs to be covered. Not to mention, we have scads of screenshots to process and organize. Give us a day or two to decompress and put all our thoughts together.

I will say that while we were there, EA stressed that the build we were playing was in alpha state, and Rod Humble himself said that there is still time to make changes.

A full account of our findings and impressions will come soon!

Yes we did ask, the short answer is that most of Societies assets will be open and readily accessible and editable.

what about SC4's source codes? Dirk are you hinting that SC:S was good enough to move on from SC4? Because right now I feel SC4's code would serve a greater cause.
