Hey Community,

Simtropolis has been invited to meet with EA and SimCity Socieities developers on August 10th. Rybolton and myself will be representing this community.  We are being flown down to San Francisco and we will be visiting the Societies team all day Friday.  I imagine we will get a chance to see the new game in person and be able to discuss it with the developers.

We both believe that we have a good understanding of the issues that most concern you regarding this game, and we will do our best to represent your interests during our visit.  Hopefully, we will get some questions answered and be able to report back with some interesting facts.

We are looking forward to meeting the Societies team, so keep an eye on this thread, we will try to pop in and post some small updates during our visit.

Until then, sit tight while we bring back some information!

Big thanks to EA for organizing the event, we're looking forward!

Cheers!

While I have a lot of questions and concerns about gameplay specifics, I'm really interested why they felt the need to completely change the core gameplay from a mayor sim to a terrarium style city builder. Even if SCS is successful, it seems like a new game and not a logical progression for the Simcity lineage.

I would also like to know if EA would allow a few of the SC4 fans who are programmers limited access to some of the SC4 source code so we can fix, complete, and maybe extend SC4 in some ways.

Maybe it would be possible to assemble a list of questions before you go so you can have a pool to draw from if you need it.

I also wanted to thank you both for acting as liaisons for the Simtropolis community. Good luck.

Awesome, Dirk. We are very concerned by the direction the game is heading, and so we trust you all to adequately state our case - personally I like the idea of societies, but as an 'added element' to the core gameplay we had in SC4...

Thanks again, Dirk, and have a good day with SC:S.

Ask for a real SimCity after SCS, and tell them to make it as a spinoff, not the main series.

Good to know that we can get some more info for this game. Its very different from other Sim Cities we have seen, so anything new about this game can really change this community's opinion about the game. If you can get any more information about transportation, zoning/ploping, and this "Societial Energy" they've been talking about, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

-Haljackey.

Wow, that is really cool that EA wants to hear from serious SimCity fans! Just when I thought EA was going to be kind of unilateral and stuff about it, they want some input from the people, the grass roots. That's a good sign. Joexcooldude is right though, I hope they explain thoroughly whether SCS will be solely plopping or not, because no zoing at all to me would be like writing a book without any words--it's too drastic of a change 4.gif

This trip is a community event intended to give the sim city community a preview of the game as it stands. I doubt they'll be taking gameplay suggestions for inclusion in the title at this time. I'm pretty sure that it is too late in development for drastic changes to the gameplay. We will be sure to ask Tilted Mill the questions you're asking about the game while we're there. I'm leaving for the airport now and will report in when I get settled at the hotel.

If they are really finished with SC4 as we know it, and have taken a different path, how about asking them to make SC4 open source.  I think they have milked it for all it has in it for them anyway, and we have a creative community that will happily take it on.

well this is a great opportunity.... it shows that they truly feel the importance of this site's presence in the community......

however, - i'm not sure if they'll change much if we mention anything just because well....they plan on releasing the game in only a few months...... that's nto much time to do all of our requests...but it's nice we'll be heard...

thank you and good luck on your fantastic trip!

As far as what we will learn as a result of this visit, let's not get our hopes too high. Unless EA is prepared for a major bean spilling, either this visit will be very tightly controlled so that what is seen will be stuff that is already fairly well known, or there may be some form of NDA involved so that no direct comments are possible in some pretty major areas.

That said, I can hardly wait to hear what is learned! 9.gif

This is great, hopefully they give some great info on the game. I mean they can't give you all the "goodies" but at least they are trying to the reach the community. As long as you can get some exclusive information I will be pleased, have a good time in San Fransisco dirk, and rybolton.

Finally we may get to hear a few things  about SCS from real sim city players, which is good news, even though it may be subjest to censorship and restriction as john Sj correctly informs us. Im looking forwards to hearing what you guys have to say about scs , regardless.
