Building the North Bank rail line in the new city of Big Bend. The entire line was leveled with street squares (at a cost of $4,000) before building (at a cost of $10,000).

Nice pic, but you could have leveled fewer tiles. Diagonal networks really need 2 tiles across, not 3. There are whole (leveled) street tiles adjacent to your track (literally "out of your track"), which are not required. And street tiles don't need to bulldozed either, dragging the track eliminates them. Experiment a little more, and you will see what I mean.

I haven't played the game for ages due to RL, but it's truly inspiring and makes my fingers itch when I see the great work made by you all. Keep it up, guys! :thumb:

Well, wouldn't I love to see you give in to that itch! :golly: For the time being, though, it's pleasant enough to see that you're still alive and kicking. :)

I know that game, when I stray away from SimCity for a while and happen to think one day "I'll go check ST for a bit", I always end up playing again.

On a related note, I'd love to see you back in action.

I haven't played around with rails as much over the course of playing SC4, but here's something I had a little while back.

I like it! Not bad at all! What you could try, though, is using more FAR. The road (which is a completely different department) looks a little choppy. :)

Not bad, Hal! Though, I would have used tunnels for rails when it crosses a mountain. Seems more realistic and practical to me than digging the mountain with a slope.

Depending on the terrain, in real life it is at times much easier (and more cost effective) to blow out a section of mountain than it is to tunnel through it.

Thanks! Regarding FAR, it is tricky to place in difficult terrain. Smooth curves may not be as nice as FAR stuff, but its still way better than the standard curves!

For context, here's a region view showing the mountain range. There are some passes where the slopes are adequate enough for rail to be built without the use of tunnels or digging through the terrain. It's a work in progress.

Hauptbahnhof_zpsd9e84687.jpg

The main central station (Hauptbahnhof) of the largest city and the number main station of the entire nation.

Kaisergarten_zpse1da1616.jpg

The largest commuter station of the country. Was quite a puzzle to get the lines in order as they spread out a lot afterwards, but to keep it smooth, each commuter train line, regional and long distance lines have their own track, hence the mighty mass.

I like how you try to keep the rail level Johan.  Here's the urban rail hub in my metro, North Station:

You can clearly see who's a road geek and who's a rail nut... A rail nut would have kept the rail totally level and raised the motorway. You did the opposite.

Then I must be a rail nut.

Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage

Actually I did half and half.

For the 7.5m overpass, I raised the RHW 3.75m and lowered the rail 3.75m.

For the record, I don't consider myself as a road geek (found this out when I actually attended a road meet-up, did not associate myself with them at all).

-I used to make really crappy rail networks, but I've been improving a lot, so I got that going for me, which is nice.

I'm pretty sure that many others should have noted this before, but I'll post it anyway:

This rail crossing allows a train from any of the four directions to perform a 180° turn, which is very practical in UDI missions (althougth with RRW there is still no way to know if the train will obey your commands)

CiudaddelLago-9Sep30131421095622_zps1310

EDIT: looking at it again, I think there is no need to use the distal diagonal ways, but it would make harder to turn every change of ways correctly.

How about "show us your railroads... with a twist"
That is I'm not going to actually show you my railroads - for that you'd have to visit my CJ :P
I'm just going to show you a couple pages from the timetable for my railroads:
