It's my latest Outer City, more like inner city. All residential zoning is in the center, next comes the commercial, and the industrial surrounds a quarter of the city. Went bankrupt 10+ times in a roll. Now out of the red. One of the rails has over 1300 C2C London Suburban passenger train traffic on the inner track. Freight train runs the outer track.

One thing I look for & try to solve is 2 or more sets of train cars getting stuck with each other: I reduce as many switches on a track as possible, & extend the track between switches. The longest train I've seen is made of 9 cars.

Looking good! Speaking as a model railroader (alas, trapped in an apartment with no space), I love seeing what people can do with trains in the game.

Hey, double high-capacity elementary school there in the shot--yikes! Talk about intervarsity competition!

hey man, i heard that you make your schools more efficent if you place the two schools further apart, then adjust the bus funding.

as far as your Rail system, it looks nice. im more of an EL-Tram person, but cool.

If I remove one large elementary school, the other will run out of space for students. Last time I checked, both were near max. capacity. There's a large high school opposite them. & a college in the west.

Forgot to mention there is a high tech industry in the southwest. A large & 2 medium water pumps powered by a separate wind power turbine. The air polution is zero anywhere except for the northeast dirty industry where there is a water treatment plant by the water.

The emphasis of this city is railroads. I have some other cities that use mainly subway + elevated rail, elevated rail + monorail & all of them.

BTW, I used to play Railroad Tycoon for DOS until it wouldn't work in XP anymore. The game was great for rail lovers. Now if EA would release a simcity game with emphasis on rail...

Here are two more shots after building a series of bridges to reduce the traffic between roads & rails. The western, southern & eastern train stations have like 2000 traffic on the tracks. The downside is the bridges attract 2000 road traffic each.

Very nice farm setup, is that circle drive just regular road or is it a mod?

More great stuff to look at and be inspired by--thanks, all. Really great work, people!

Hey, Akhilles, I forgot to mention: I love the way you include greenery in your rail corridors. And Anubis, what is that large building to the left in the second picture from the bottom--the one that looks like it almost has swimming pools built into it?

cityhawk, good ruralness. nissanskyline1235, love the high tech industry. anubis89 (that a plant?), I bow down to you. Everyone else, thanks for the comments & ideas. I'm always looking for ideas.

smstevenms, road bridges are built manually. Must get NAM. Then click the 2nd last road construction icons, hit tab to loop through a series of road structures until it matches, shift-tab to go back, home/end to rotate. Takes a few mins. Keep the same icon on & build the rest instead of one bridge at a time. There are like 20+ structures.

The 2 redish/brown buildings with 2 helipads each adjacent to the large train station are large hospitals, if anyone is wondering. Up to 6500 patient capacity.

The 3-track rail station is SimTropolis Train Station. You should go STEX-shopping. Search for a keyword like train. You'd be surprised to see what you get.

akhilles (first post): Forgot to mention that I like the railroads going everywhere, although it would look even better if there was something other than a grass texture under the railroads.

smstevenms: That circular drive is actually half a roundabout, which can be found in the NAM (PC version here, Mac version here). Anyway, glad you like the pic!

nissanskyline1235: Other than that sharp piece of elevated rail on the slope on the farthest side of the road, I like it!

anubis89: Thanks! And your pics are freakin' awesome, as I've said before when I saw them in the last CJ you ended. Good job!

    akhilles (second post): Thanks!

I thought this pic of mine was interesting:

    U3-9.jpg

The area is obviously not finished, but I want to call your attention to the four-way junction. If you look closely at the place where the two main tracks actually cross each other, you'll see two small curves in the bottom left and upper right that allows the train to switch to the other track. I thought that trains could only turn with GRADUAL curves, not steep ones like that. Anybody have any comments on this oddity?

BTW, a little shameless self-promotion here: These pics I'm showing you can be found in my CJ, which you can find through the link in my sig.

    Thanks, cityhawk

anubis89, I have to know, where did you get the rail bridges and the road bridges? Please tell. Your images are very realistic in its attempt to capture the everyday going ons. I only hope I'll be able to create such a piece.

As far as the short turn goes, I believe that it is because the game "square" is 16x16m (if i recall correctly) and therefore the turn would be somewhere around the size of a small/medium house. It likely couldn't support a huge train, but it could take a smaller one at a low speed. Great pics everyone.

anubis89, I wouldn't be surprised if you worked in railroads or on model railroads.

aleking, awesome rail networks & industry. Love the freight trains.

Yoman3, I didn't have a pic 5 yet. If you meaned the last one I posted above, the station in pic 3 is https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=2893

Jack Forge, industry needs rails/shipyards to move the goods. Freight trucks work not as well as trains/ships. S4 is rather complicated. Every bit counts. 1st, don't overspend on services. Then provide the city with the means to grow. Rather it be transportation infrastructure or education or services. The southeast of my city was dead until I built 3 train stations. The biz along the rail line boomed immediately. Oh, I didn't start to build up the railroads until I made money. Only roads at the start. Over $1mil surplus. I'd assume it's the same for others.

    Thank you again.

Haven't played in a while due to XP reinstall. 2 more screenies: moblize the army (SWAT), World Poker tourneys & dirty industry.
