Here's a region I've been working on for the past few months. First time really using the NAM/RHW from scratch. I'm a big fan of sprawling regions so after building the two cities in the north and south I've been expanding the suburbs:

My hard drive died just before I finished this region and I lost all of my stuff. Here's a  pic of it's early progression.

Large Region 1 & 2 was good. But Wilson was GREAT. The urban sprawl, the rivers, the high-to-low density "transition", the definable business districts and "zones". This has literally gave me motivation and inspiration.

How does one make a picture of the whole region?

There's a program out there called 'Region Census' that, among other things, gives you a view of the whole region on one screen. You can then take a print screen and paste it into paint, and you should be good to go :)

I can't remember who made the program, but a quick search should bring it up (and someone else will probably link it anyway).

Spoderman, pls.

It actually has a "Save Image" function, which takes a picture of the Region View displayed and saves you any tedious and horrendously time consuming cropping.  :thumb:

Does anyone know what program you can use to add new city tiles to an existing region, I want to build more cities on it but I do not want to start a new region.

I'd use SimCity 4 Startup Manager.  It lets you drag and drop new city tiles of different sizes to expand the region in whatever direction you wish.  It also has the functionality of exporting an image of the entire region.

Here is what my latest 154 large tile region looks like since I last posted images here.  Regional population is sitting at 1,588,000 at the moment.  Not going for population mind you, just completion.  (Click images to see larger image.)

Next time I post images, the freeway network will be completed.

How do people create all the regions with skyscrapers sprawling out into suburbs and farms?

Because I keep getting some sort of industrial (dirty or manufacturing) demand, no matter what...

How do you get enough demand for the skyscrapers?

r dirty industry

How do you get enough demand for the skyscrapers?

The key is regional play. If you have enough demand in your region altogether, you should be able to get a concentrated dense core.

Alternatively, have your I-D around, but keep it away from R$$$ etc. You can build I-HT pockets of industry near high wealth, this should help.

OR you could do what I do and use a demand mod. However, you still need a balance between residents and jobs, some people forget this and end up having 400k cities with only 100k jobs wondering why they have so much abandonment.

I really like the development you've got going so far, the major routes all look to be pleasingly grid-busting, and I like how the tiles that have been done flow together flawlessly :)

I've just started a new region, since its Christmas break so I have a fair amount of time, and since my previous region is bugged (Annecy), and what with the pre-release of NAM 32 (with RRW, which I've been really looking forward to), and my discovery of the ARDEN tree controller (due to the NORO), I thought it was time to start afresh. Only a small region (2.5x2.5 large tiles) since I never finish them, but this is what I've got so far (just dialling in terrain and trees):

I'm thinking I might start a CJ on this one, more just for my own reference, but will see how it goes :)

Groovington  (27th Decade)

Finally broke 200K population. Do believe it's my largest city to date. Also the first time truly playing a region wide city, breaking the grid, and blending borders.

Just started a new region called Hebron.  I used the BrisVegas region from drunkapple and resized it to be more 'managable'.  This is the region after 25 sim years of development.

I am not used to in making my own region because I have a lot of problems when it comes to reclining boundaries with neighbors.   So I usually just download from the exchange or use the one maxis provided. Anyhow, this is the in game San Francisco that I am working on. All the cities are named after Kuroko no Basket teams. The one adjacent to the highlighted is the first district of this region. Bigger metropolis area with taller buildings will be on the right side of this map soon.

PS. I also like to start this as a city journal but I have hard time (or maybe I am just to lazy) to post pictures.  :thumb:

BTW, Happy new year guys!

Not the most realistic region out here, but great effort!

As promised, here's a peek at what I've been working on since I last posted.

A couple of days after my last post, I began working on these two agricultural districts.  The bottom one was done first over a couple of days followed by the top district.  The top district is zoned for farming and LD residential only and has amassed a population of just over 41,000.  I've had absolutely zero demand for commercial so I'll keep zoning more LD residential until it stops growing.  The empty central area is being kept for commercial zoning just in case.

Two more districts I began last week, both also all agricultural and LD residential.  The bottom district is another all farm/LD residential that has yet to be completed.  So far the population is 1500 but most likely to increase when I go back to work on it.

The top district I had some fun with.  First I added in some craters in God mode and then went to work.  Nine hours later the empty distrct was transformed in to an agricultural only district supporting 23,000 farm jobs.
