Here are satellite shots of the cities I am working on in my CJ "Southern Cities," some of which are a little outdated and will be updated in the coming months:

Atlanta:

Roanoke, VA:

Greenville, SC:

Augusta area, GA/SC:

Great job bro! My favorite is Greenville. Atlanta will take a long time if you plan on doing the surroundings lol

Trifort, work in progress

Downtown will stay contained on the island/peninsula; the mainland to the north will be the suburban area.  I'll post more pictures of it when it's nearer to completion, and I'm thinking I'll also start a city journal of this region sometime soon.

BUMP!! This thread is far too great to let it slide onto the 2nd page!

I'll re-post some of the highlights for those that may be just checking into this thread for the first time:

As promised, here is today's live screenshot of Thessaloniki.

Hi guys.
This is my region as it stands at the moment.

It's grown from a single-tile small town set in around 1920 to this medium-sized fledgling city covering at last count 60 tiles (largest possible size).  The current game-year is 1987.  I intend to continue it well into the future, and hopefully do some really cool stuff with BATs when we get into like 2100 and 2300's.

This is the region shot at size showing the main central region... it's only recently started to grow towers.... the entire city is still primarilly farms, urban sprawl, and manufacturing industry.
There are still no highways anywhere in the region, but it's getting to a point where they'll be required soon.

Boston%20v2%20-%201987%20d.jpg

It's taken me over six months to grow the city to this stage.
You can visit my journal and see this thing in more detail here.

It's not planned in any way - it's totally free-form and I let the sims guide me... as journalled in great detail in the CJ "CSGdesign's Natural Growth".

Hope you like it!

.. I left out quite a few really good ones, but only because they were only semi-complete or were unpopulated...

Also I like how everyone is doing with their regions, in which  everything time I come here I see more and more realistic regions!, keep it up everyone! :thumb:   :bunny:

An Update of Carson-Oceanside Metro Area

Currently... the far west in development.

And also lets see if you can find the two main highways routes in the picture (the hard part is going to be in the mountains).  :]

nice! love those terrain colors! i will always remember this, literally. it is the most realistic american style region I seen, and the pic above reminds me of NYC, all that overcrowding and then miles and miles of low and medium density

@ SimcityFuturist .. NO! ... thank you! For the inspiration! Unbeliveably nice development over that region.

@ AIX, you got any more updates or anything? I love your mega-megatropolis style.. I'm actually really intersted in seeing your transit layout.

@ Sparkle magic, yours lookg great too.. I can't wait to see it completed, once you fill in the empty regions.

@ timmie .. depends on what you are looking for I guess. I'm personally most impressed with the way these regions are developed, so I really didn't even bother looking much into less or unpopulated regions.

I'm rather addicted to this thread...great work everyone. I'm actually in the process of looking for a brand new map to do a natural/organic growth region. I'll contribute to this thread asap!

This is what I have done so far. It's only two days work though. I am having trouble building freeways, however.

An update on the Trifort region, which has grown a lot since the last time I posted it:

127719852-4.jpg

The undeveloped corridor on the central island was to be the site of a new freeway that crossed the island, but the plan was eventually scrapped after I spent basically all day today trying to figure out how to interchange it with another highway, which was right next to a canal, so it became difficult to impossible in the space I had and I gave up.

Like many in this thread your work is great and probably better than anything I have done. However don't you think it would look a bit more realistic if you had put some farms on the outskirts and filled in the suburbs with housing additions scattered here and there? Just a thought but not intended to be critical of your good work.

Edit: I often overbuild farms early on and then convert them as the land is needed...just like in real life. :)

Thanks a lot for your compliments. :) The thing is, the region still isn't finished being developed; there will definitely be more suburban development added to it, and possibly some farms too.  Right now I'm focusing on downtown (New Concorde) and filling in that island/peninsula with urban development.  I might also even expand the region with SC4Terraformer later on if I can make it look good (I'm not a map-maker by any means).

Looks interesting with this Terrain Mod. I live on the long hill in the north :ohyes: I'm looking forward how you develop it.

(BTW: it's spelled Liechtenstein)

Doesn't Simtropolis have spell-check though?  ;)

It does look like an amazing place from photos.  That's an interesting idea you had, turning it into a desert canyon landscape.  I wanna see how it turns out.

Nope, that'd be your internet browser.
