Sadly, nothing else was running on the system at the time of rendering (well, nothing that isn't required for Windows), not even Explorer.  Oddly, I just noticed that it only effects the largest cities in the region42.gif

The oddness is everywhere!

The area with the small lake and to the north and east are four cities.

Ok, I tried another map, Eye of the Storm, as well as Icelandic Fantasy again, both do the same thing to the largest cities when rendered?!

The cities load fine, and look normal when you go to play them, so I guess I can live with it, but I'd prefer not to 4.gif

They should be, I just downloaded the ones from the STEX, and placed them into the directories of the newly created regions.

I opened them in PhotoPaint and PhotoShop, and  both seem to be right.

config.bmp

That's the one for Icelandic Fantasy... maybe, when I download them, they're being changed somehow?

Hello everyone! I have Rush Hour installed on my PC. And have a problem with map rendering. I've carefully read the topic and followed all instructions and suggestions step by step. But rendering problem hasn't disappeared. I've created a flat region with 16x16 config bitmap. The region is shown correctly in game (according to the config bitmap). I've created some maps with Landscape Designer and downloaded some. All maps have 8-bit gray-scale format and 1025x1025 size. While loading a map into region the rendering process goes normally (top screen message changes occur) and takes approximately 10 minutes. But after finish of rendering process the region stays as flat. I've tried to load several maps in any cases, but always rendering process made nothing. The region always stayed flat. The SC4 Rush Hour is the only one application running on my PC while rendering map.

If you mean populated regions  there are none here, simply because it takes to much space, normal maps we do have.. plenty!

Check them out [HERE]

Kazeneko: I think the problem you are having, judging by the image posted, is the resolution of your screen. Try setting to 1280 x 1024, not 1600 x 1200. Check out this thread for more details

Pre-loaded cities aren't allowed to be uploaded on the Exchange for a couple of reasons:

1) If the member who uploaded the map had plugins in their city, you would have to have all of them for the city to function correctly.

2) Cities would take up a large amount of space on the Exchange server.

Ok I have been really having a hard time with importing a custom region by both editing the already created BMP files in the respective region folders and I have no clue how to make a custom region from scratch using paint. I basically want a simple region with all large city maps so i guess 16 large cities like this format where L = Large city,

LLLL

LLLL

LLLL

LLLL

I do not want it to be a strip but the same region build as say the already prebuilt cities like new york, london and so forth. Using paint how would I do this. I have read all the threads on making custom maps from STomnibus's post to vandys post to the post that goes over USGS data maps with greyscale and I do not understand the whole importing maps from grayscale to make them a colored BMP, sorry I am not to good at this 15.gif. I just simply want a region that has all large cities. I have done the following and it has not worked for me. I opened up SC4 DE and created my new region naming it Texas. I then went into paint and made my size 16x16 pixels and colored in the little sqaure all blue as blue represents large cities. Then i save the file as Texas.BMP and put it into my Texas folder. I then go back to Sim City 4 DE and hit Cntrl-Shift-alt + R and it pulls up the file menu for me to chooes my Texas.BMP which I do and then nothing happens i do not get a rendering screen or anything. I use to play this game 3 years ago and stopped and just started playing again and I made custom regions fine back then but have seem to have forgotten how. Please help me out guys. Thanks a ton.

I've been trying to use the Antarctica map from here:

stex

And I'm always getting the "Region bitmap size is incorrect" message.  The config.bmp that came with is in the folder with it and properly named.  I'm using the original version, haven't even installed the update yet.

clocknane17: The bitmap must be named config.bmp, nothing else will work, if you use that name [texas.bmp], the game will use a random default config.bmp.

Deaghaidh: If you have an image editor, check the size of both images. The ratio of the greyscale to the config file is 64 to 1 plus 1 pixel.

Okay, how do I check that the ratio is right and fix it if it's wrong?  I never use image editors.

Also, how do I get maps from the Terraformer tool to load as regions?

Just installed the game again after a long time. Now I've got a problem when I create a new region, when I did that 3 years or so ago I would get a complete flat map with small, medium and some large city tiles. When I do it now, it gives a flat map but only small and medium tiles. How can you change that?

Thanks in advance.

I play Sim City 4 Deluxe and I don't want to create maps any more. But without, the game is getting boring.

It is extremely hard for me to download even one single map. For example, I tried to download Lincoln Nebraska and I installed "Landscape Designer" but I still had big problems.

"region generator error - region bitmap is incorect 672x672, should be 1537 x 1537

Landscape designer:

error in compressed file - Bad CRC

could not extract support files - setup will abort

Please help me explain what it means.

It may mean you didn't use the config.bmp that was needed. When installing a map from a greyscale image, you must have a suitable config.bmp if the mapp greyscale is anything other than the default 1025x1025 pixels. The config.bmp tells the game what size the map should be and where to put the city borders. Make sure that you have downloaded any config.bmp that is supplied with the map, and put it in the new region's folder before you render the map.

I got some quick notes to add to "making new regions" It took me some time to work out but here it is.....

1. You gotta make a new folder in your mydocuments/simcity4/regions folder... call this what you want your city to be called

2. Go back to another region in mydocuments/simcity/regions and copy the config (if its the type of layout you want) & the region.ini into the new folder you have just named

3. go to http://www.rebel13.com/SimCity/Home.html and download a greyscale pic of what you want..... ps some dont work but majority does

4. go into region.ini and change city name to same as you want the region

5. run simcity and go to the new region and press alt ctrl shift & R

6. find your greyscale image and when clicked it should load

If this fails it might be an incorrect config file

Configs can be anything you want.... open in pain and zoon 800% then paint one of your own

From the website rebel13.com: 3) In the folder should be one file called region.ini.

I can't find it. Where can I download that region.ini.?

Everything I do is working fine until I go back in to try to locate the bmp file... then nothing... it just doesn't show up on the file queue.

My problem is I can't navigate to the file I need to open. After I hit ctrl+alt+shift+r, the window pops up but I'm unable to open the folder documents and settings, where my file is located. I can open everyother folder SAVE that one. Any one have the same problem?

Yeah, I have the same issue.  However, you can go to the "Users" folder and click on your user name and go from there.  (Username, Documents, SimCity 4, Regions...)

I cannot get any of the regions to render.  I've tried several different region maps that I downloaded right from Simtropolis.  I think the problem might be that the image attributes show it to be in full color and not specifically "greyscale" but I'm not sure.  I've read most of this thread and tried some of the other solutions but nothing works.  Does anyone else have this same problem?

Hi all. First post here myself.

I'm having trouble getting a map to load.

https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=5246

That specific file. I think I've got the set up right, but I can't get the map to render no matter what I do.

*Edit/update* Nevermind. Fixed it up myself using some guess work. For all those having trouble make sure you have a config.bmp and turn on view hidden files. There's a config file that'll trip you up if you've tried to render the region before. Remove that and you should be golden.

Folder view should just have the region.jpg and a config.bmp
