Hmm... somehow, I think "Uberdig" is an oxymoron. Maybe not.

These lots appear in the Misc. Transit Menu, at Item Order #93.

You probably want to double check your underground network connections (the subways).  I had a same problem too and it's quite annoying, but subways need to be doublechecked to make sure they are fully connected to the tunnel portal system in order for the network to complete itself and pass traffic.

If that still does not help, post us a screenshot and we'll have a look at it to see what's not working for ya.

Also, UDI/bus/truck traffic are prohibited in the tunnels due to limits within the SC4 game application.  This was mentioned in the manual as well I believe.  Thanks!

Thanks for your comment 2.gif  I was actually waiting to see who would notice the incorrect speed limits lol, but congrats, you are the first!

Yes, I am aware of the 45 speed limit in the tunnels (since i drive thru there on everyday basis).  But unfortunately I did not bother fixing it, b/c the sign is so small enough that you will never be able to distinguish it between 45 and 55 in SC4 game.

Blahdy, I noticed you mentioned that certain traffic is prohibited because of the limitations of SC4. I think though it should be possible to add an from Bus to subway switchpoint, thus allowing people to travel through the tunnel by bus ( = switching to subway ). I just altered this lot of the project and added the bus switchpoints with SC4Tool:

    BlahdyBigDig01.jpg

As you see ... no problem with busses changing to subways. I have never switched freight trucks to subways, but as far as I know that should also be possible.

Nicolais: Thank you for the experiment and the tip! Much appreciated. We'll be sure to explore this more for the next release, in bringing bus traffic back into the tunnels.

Its very simple ... with SC4Tool you can add switchpoints like the ones that are in already, just add 4 additional switchpoints and its done. If you would like me to do it for you, just mention it and I can "mod" the switchpoints for you.

Wouldn't this have the undesirable side effect of allowing commuters to enter the tunnel as bus traffic but exit as car traffic, and vis versa? And I'm almost scared to think how freight traffic might behave (freight trucks transforming into busses, for example). I don't really know that much about transit enabling, so hopefully I'm wrong, as I would love to see this work for busses and freight. Regardless, I still think this is a great project.

Fraz86 ... you might actually have a point there. I haven't tested that ... I'll see what happens tomorrow when I expand the testing.

    Thanks everybody! 9.gif

Now that basic tunnel systems are released publicly, ventilation buildings become a bit of priority so that your Sims don't inhale too much CO2 piling up inside the tunnels.

Several months ago, I kind of did a quick couple minute scatch of Vent Building 5.  It looks like this:

    vent5-b1.jpg

Now, we are going to take that and start building Ventilation Building #5, a modern utilitarian-look ventilation and services building in South Boston.

First, lets start with the concrete chimneys:

    BUILDING A VENT BUILDING CHIMNEY

Step 1: Constructing the upper side of the chimney

    vent3-1.jpg

    Upper side chimney almost completed:

    vent3-2.jpg

Step 2: Upper side chimney completed, now working on the bottom side chimney:

    vent3-3.jpg

    Completed Chimney.  It looks beautiful!

    vent3-4.jpg

Now, we can get started on building the roof and superstructure of the Ventilation Building 5, but that's for another update! 2.gif

Wow, that looks just like the real thing! I think it needs to be taller, though.

it goes on top of the building, so only needs to be slightly taller for the roof interface 4.gif

I don't think I was talking to you like boss.  I was like that in my threads, though.

So anyways, nice work!  I agree, though, with SC4Noobie, It needs to be taller, and maybe the vents need futther spacing apart.  Otherwise it looks great!  I will replace the Maxis tunnel with the Big Dig tunnel at Nicholson and show it off.

I DL'd the project and think it provides a new dimention to the "downtown highway" situation.. nice job.. I do have one aesthetic complaint tho.. the project throws a SHADOW that is totally wrong and very much draws attention away from the quality artwork. I am not a BATTER but I  have read there is a way to BLOCK THIS SHADOW.. It involves somehow declaring the textures as being "zero height" .. perhaps a note to T Wrecks or similar will get you a quick answer.. love it otherwise.. keep plugging!!! 4.gif Don't let the TURKEYS GET YOU DOWN!! 4.gif

Also as you use this mod, be very careful to SAVE OFTEN.. I have noted many occasions that working on exchanges on the highway connections will CRASH TO DESKTOP.. This only started doing this after I installed this mod and the HIGH SPEED RAIL project.. I have no idea at this point which is causing this (or if it is an interaction).. but..users have now been made aware!

The crash always occurred when I tried placeing on/off ramps in the near vacinity of this tunnel project..

    SC4BOY: thanks for the comment.

Yea the shadow issue is another bug that needs to be fixed for next release, thanks for the reminder though!

Regarding the crash to desktop issue, lol.. the true/real Big Dig has arrived to your city...

But anyway, yea, there might be some risk in crash-- because of complex tunnel network, it has to spend more time calculating routes. I don't believe there is a bug caused by the mod itself though that's causing the crash, as we've tested it rigrously (granted, it wasn't a long time we tested this, but nevertheless was thoroughly tested as much as we can, and it didn't crash during those tests). Nevertheless though, we'll look into it more to try to reproduce the crashes here.

    Blahdy,

The crash SC4Boy had was probably due to attempting to place the Onramp Puzzle Pieces (the single-sided ramps) near the transit-enabled lots. He said he was trying to place ramps near the Big Dig lots. This is a known bug with the game that only Maxis can fix.
