ROON CLASS

SMS Yorck – 1904

Displacement 9,533 tons – 128.8m (419 feet) in length – speed 21.1 knots – range 4,200 nautical miles – crew 35 officers, 598 enlisted men – 4x 21cm (8.3 in) guns – 10x 15cm (5.9-in) guns – 14x 8.8cm (3.5-in) guns – 4x 45cm (17.7-in) torpedo tubes – deck armour 4cm (1.6 in) – turret armour 15cm (5.9 in) – belt armour  8-10cm (3.1-3.9 in) –  protective armoured deck 6cm (2.4 in).

The Roon Class ships were meant to be an improvement over the preceding Prinz Adalbert Class – but design limitations proved impossible to overcome. The designers intended the armoured cruisers to be a faster version of the Adalbert’s, but were unable to build them long enough to include the required boilers and larger engines. In 1902, when the ships were laid down, the existing docks and repair basins in Wilhelmshaven and Kiel were simply too short to accommodate the needed length. Only two additional boilers could be squeezed into the available space and her resulting 4.5 to 1 length-to-width ratio made her short, “tubby”, and no faster than her predecessors. The Roon Class ships proved to be smaller, lighter, and less heavily gunned than their English counterparts, and were widely thought of as unsuccessful in service. For complete details of design and service, see Imperial Dockyards: Cuxhaven – Chapter 06.

How to use

This pack contains .SC4model-files and props as .SC4desc-files. So, by installing this pack nothing will directly appear in your game. You can use the props on your own lots or convert the SC4models into buildings, as you please. Since most props are to be used on water lots and props naturally align with the surface level, they will sink to the sea floor, if you do not stick to the guidelines on how to use props on water lots. Finally you will need to follow the instructions on how to make a lot transparent.

You will find the props in any Lot-Editor under the prefix A_1P_h_

As per request from the community, I have also included a version of the ship without historic flags and crew.

Please visit @Dreadnought's CJ to get detailed descriptions and the historical backgrounds to these prop packs. You will see a wonderful display of the results of our long collaboration there and can get a preview of what might be hidden in the coming prop packs or simply get some inspiration for your own harbour!

What can I say -- ?

Yet another handsome and historically accurate model of an Imperial German armored cruiser.

And I can see from the download roster we have more than one download from visitors / non-members of SC4.  I do hope you are all enjoying the models and are working on city tiles that will make use of them.  They are too beautiful and detailed to pass-up.
