How to Install

  • Download files
  • Once download is complete, extract rar files. (right click > extract)
  • Simply copy and paste OFFLINE-ONLY_Project_Orion_3k_Extended_Boundary.package in C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\SimCity\SimCityData
  • Start SimCity > Play new map > Choose city tile > Save > Quit SimCity (not work if exit to Main Menu)
  • Re-Start SimCity > Resume Game
  • Wonders *:bunny:

Must have Mods for Orion

Issues that have been plagued players since the game's release is now answered. Some says it is the holy grail of all mods. Some says this mod + buy game/reinstall. That's right, 3k extended border aka "bigger city".
 


 

Understanding the mechanics of Orion 3k Extended Boundary.

1. Upon entering 3k extended map. based on (Image #1), The 3k map extended on North and East. Use right click mouse button or middle mouse button to bring up the compass.

2. Regional Roads are needed to draw them outside 2k map. Such as Project Akar : UI Enhancements, that offers almost every roads available to be drawn outside 2k.

3. Regarding Land Value, please refer the image below. There a lot of misunderstanding as well as misconceptions about the land value data, that was viewed in the map data.

  • The Actual Land Value EFFECTS are still intact as they are. It does not resized regardless in or outside 2k. Believe it or not. It still the same. There are claims that users may have experiences getting different wealth RCI in certain unwanted areas. These confusions is only because  we can't determine the actual "spot" of land value throughout 3k extended border, and the data from the Land Value map seems false but not entirely false information. It was compressed 4:1
  • This also applied on Pollutions, Ground Pollutions, Futurizations etc.

4. Regarding Resources. Unlike Land Value/Pollutions etc That was compressed 4:1. All Resources are stretched 1:4, see Image #3 and #4 to get better understanding on them.

  • This 1:4 stretched map data also effects oil, water, coal and ore.

 

Lag and memory issues

Its common knowledge that lags or frame-rate drops are known for almost every game that pushes its limits unless the users has a high-end computers. It covers almost every aspect from 3D rendering, physics (engine), memory calculations that the game generates etc. Orion (3k Extended boundary) does not lag the game itself, only that the additional space it provides for users to built in and as the city developed and getting dense - it'll stress your computer hardware.

We cant blame the game for the lags, it just happen that once we push the game to its limit, we might as well be done with better hardware.

The Game's Limitations

1. All trees outside the default border cant be remove, because there is no tree, its a facade. Only way to remove them is to edit the region map files.

2. The game already provide its regional transit, from air to land and water. We can't add Maglevs/Subways/EL and Streetcars to work between two different city vice versa. Please "make do" with the given features of each city tiles carefully.

3. There's a limit count of how many roads/buildings that can be drawn/build per city tile

  • Roads : 1024
  • RCI : 2048
  • Base Buildings : 4096 (not yet confirmed)

I've installed all the necessary mods, restarted the game several times and even though I can see that the boundaries have obviously expanded outward in a random city, I can't place anything outside or INSIDE of the original boundaries. 

I started a new city, built some roads, restarted it to get the limits to expand, but after restarting I can't plot anything anywhere (apart from roads, both regional and otherwise). Zones aren't visible when selected and nothing plops no matter where I put it. I tried doing this with an already-built city and I had the same problem.

I have a question to ask regarding Project Orion Mod.. I have install this mod, but when I try to draw the road or building outside the original boundary, the road and building look very weird, the tree and texture of the land overlay the road.. Is there any solution for this, I mean the setting of the graphic or whatsoever to make it look normal.. I have watched a few video from youtube, when they draw road outside the boundary, their road are so perfect without this problem.. Hope you can help.. Thank you..

Hi, i'm not sure if it's my saved file corrupted or not, I've build quite a number of UDoN roads on the city tile already,

but after I plot a small number of roads, the game crashes, does means that I have reached the limit of 1024 for roads :( ??

I have mod correctly installed but when I drag zoning tool down roads that extend from the real city out into the 3k area, they zone tool stops at the border, am I doing something wrong?

I decidced to return to the game, and since I am software developer, I would like to assist on improving this mod. Is it possible someone to point me on the correct direction where/how to start and if possible to obtain the source (code) of this mode to see if i can assist you on improving it?

The "source code" is the mod itself so the .package file. You need https://simcitypak.codeplex.com/ to edit such a file for SimCity 2013. You may also want to check out http://community.simtropolis.com/forum/94-simcity-2013-modding-open-discussion/  Let me know if you succeed in "improving" Orion.

 

XoXiDe it's creator told me that for things to get "better" "fixing" what's "wrong" a way around the hardcoded stuff is needed. As I'm set to try that myself as soon as I'm done with my first mod in Project Override I'll get right on that and I'm sure it will take more than just one person to figure this out. So feel free to join myself and one other when the time comes.

Nice Mod, thanks Yayie! But I hawe some trouble with mineral resources (coal, ore, oil). They reflected on resource map, but when i build coal mine or oil derrick, the game write, that there is no resource. If i anyone build mine or oil derrick, the aren't work.

Hello everyone. I have a problem = / when I extend my most city comes a point that I can not add point of buses, ambulances or garbage trucks, fire in departtamentos .. someone help me solve this because it happens

Have a question Yayie, has anyone thought of moving the dotted lines that represents the city borders and the data maps of coal, ore and other things to the proper section and is anyone working on this issue in terms of an update to this?

 

Just want to understand the progress whether its actually virtually impossible to do so or there is some realm of possibility just that the modders haven't figure it out yet.

 

Don't get me wrong, I love this mod wholeheartedly and cannot wait for that issue to be configured together with the extended boundary :)

I can not build in the area that was expanded from the mod , only the tabs that are magnified. :(

 

How do I constrir or repair ?

Yes we tried all that last year with no success, the mod opens to all modders to improve it.

After I used 2k area of city I have placed  regional roads and some residence buildings, but I cant find how to improve land value outside of 2k - i can't place parklets, schools, police or fire station. Is it something wrong on my site or there is no way to do it ?

Basically, if you play without extended mod, you will get all the resources in place. With the mod, you need to imagine that it has been divided into 4 sections. please refer the example image above.

 

As I understood it, there is a problem with viewing land value or resources representation on map - but it is just enough to imagine it as enlarged (resized) at then it is possible to read map correctly.

 

My problem/question is that i can only place RCI buildings in 3k area. How can I place there also building like : parks, school, police, clinic (or even power plant, water tower) ??

I belive that it is possible to rise land value out 2K zone, but I don't know how can I place such building/parks there. Maybe Im missing some mod or just can't see it in some menu ?

Pretty much same problem as many others here, missing resources, missing textures on buildings outside original borders. Need some bugfixing, otherwise good!

its not as simple as to "do some bugfixing" For one, they are not bugs because pretty much all mods you'll find here are doing things the game is not designed for. Therefore they cannot be bugs (unexpected behavior) Now when thats clear, if you read the description, what it is Orion actually does. It should be clear to you or anyone else why its not possible to do some "bugfixing" sure, if you rewrite the Game Engine then we can talk...

 

a very time consuming "solution" could be to edit every prop that has "issues" to take an example, regional roads have a higher distance from the ground. This value has to be increased even more and same goes for all other props. So grab SimCityPak and start editing mr Ourlord  :ohyes:
