About This File

DESCRIPTION:  This mod removes the blue-green astro-turf with seam lines that is used as grass on most of the ($$) and ($$$) parks. It replaces it with a natural look similar to what is used on zoned lots and the ($) parks.

DETAILS:  This is my first mod. I personally found the default grass texture on the parks and other buildings to be very unattractive. The off color does not blend into any environment. In addition, the texture has obvious seams which make it look even worse. I created textures that use a similar system for the ground texture as the zoned house lots. I also added some subtle details which look different under different ground conditions. No two parks will look exactly the same and all should blend nicely into the local environment.

DISCLAIMER:  This mod does not change anything other than two textures used for the grass and should be safe for online non-sandbox play. This mod is purely cosmetic so it can be added to and removed from any existing or new city. I have tested it but it is NOT tested under all conditions since I only own the base game. This mod affects every instance where the astro-turf is used on any park, building or landmark lot.

KNOWN ISSUES:  ***UPDATE*** Due to the nature of the game, adding the Natural Parks mod also removes the system that stopped the grass that grows from the landscape from appearing. This could lead to some parks looking overgrown when viewed up close. I have created a seperate mod that addresses this issue and I highly recommend trying it. It is called "Cut the Grass", link below.

INSTALLATION: Copy the Manx_Natural_Parks.package file into your ...\Origin\SimCity\SimCityData\ folder. Just remove the same file to uninstall.

If anyone runs into any issues, just let me know.

Enjoy!

Don't dowload this "NATURAL PARKS."  I downloaded it and it totally messed up my computer installing a malicious program called "Gorilla Price" which is almost impossible to remove from my computer system.  Why are you attaching this to your download?  I only downloaded one mod . . . this one . . . so it has to be attached to your program.  What gives?

And why should a trojan be in a seriousily mod, on a seriosily website, wich many poeple downloaded here without a virus? Have you load a page at download  time too? Or have you clicked on some adversiting?

Well, I just ran the download link through the Virus Total website (which anybody can do) and it came back clean. Why not report it to the admins? That should settle it no? Anyway, GorillaPrice has to be installed, usually hiding in browser add-ons or on web pages, it can't come from opening an archive. But hey thanks for the accusation! :P

This is one of the usefullest mods! I see this old parks, and I thought: Why they are as green? Another green as the surface texture, or even the sand texture! Ok it's not the same now, but it's very natural, and it looks 100 times better, than the old texture.

Thanks you!

Great mod, I always hated that green texture under the parks. This has a huge improvement on the Volleyball court, the Basic Pond and some of the Formal Plazas. Thanks!

What Park Mod/overall graphic Mod do you use in your screenshot ? they look so cool !

In these shots it's just this mod in the base game with the "warmer" filter, nothing else. I did jam many parks together then plopped a ton of trees and took the shots just after sunrise tho.

I realize I'm pretty late to the party. In your pictures, how did you plop parks away from the road?

rcpinion, I don't know if you are still around on this site but I just hate when I post a question and nobody bothers to answer it.  You may have already figured this out since it's been quite a while but just in case there are others out there with the same question...

Plop a park down then pick that park and hit the edit button (just like when you select residential, commercial, etc.. buildings), more of the same type of parks from that particular file will appear at the bottom of your screen.  You can then plop those parks right onto the initial park you laid.  Plop points will appear around the original park.  (There are some youtube videos which show this (many are the videos about building roads and cities underground.  Check out SkyeStorme.com for some great video tutorials).

Hope this helps either you or someone else that may be new and not know yet.

If there is anyone out there that is still checking the forum and answering questions, this mod works for me as far as changing the color of the 'grass' but I still have the lines.  I've switched settings on my graphics, turned off and on other mods that I thought may be conflicting with it, changed the 'cut the grass' settings to try all 3 of them but I can't think of anything else to try.  It's not that big of deal but I would like to at least try to figure out why it's not working at 100%.  Maybe I'm missing a conflicting mod somewhere that I need to turn off.  (I have a few other questions that I've posted if you have a second to take a look at those as well... :-D)

Have a great day!
