Classic VW Beetle Pack 3: Baja Bugs  2

About This File

Updated for minor fix.

Pack three adds 14 Baja style VW Beetles to your city traffic. Each comes in two versions, clean, and dirty ('I been muddin'). They all feature custom off-road driving lights, custom UI, and menu icons, and are all My Sim enabled. As custom built Baja Bugs, they are faster than the standard VW, and are just as fast off-road, as they are on roads. The off-road driving lights are not intended for use on streets: they tend to blind other drivers 9.gif though you may choose to do so (they also work in the daytime, and look great in the early dawn hours)

The models used for these are modified versions of the original Maxis VW model (mods made by me in reader). I also made the off-road lights. These models sit higher than the stock VW, have a clipped rear end with exposed engine, and of course larger tires with cut-back fenders.

Special thanks to Thingfishs for getting me motivated to make these, and for all the feedback during the creation of these, and to Ripplejet for getting me on the right path to get the lights working.

As with all my creations, feel free to modd these into props, re-skin or whatever..just be sure to give me (Elric888) credit if you upload anything based on these.

Updated to improve steep hill-climbing ability

there is a slight glitch with the horn getting stuck, which seems to be unfixable at the moment (this is due to the Maxis class_ID, not my doing)..just keep hitting it if it gets stuck..or don't use the horn 1.gif

Enjoy!

Hooray they're out! Those high beam lights look fantastic. So does the muddy one, and the green and black one, well done! We will figure roof racks out someday... I'm off to try them out.

You are a great Modder! i'm really liking your work. Can't wait to see more of your work! Also, keeping on the VW theme, are you thinking of doing VW campervans? Maybe some beaten up models, some custom?

Thanks! Camper vans are already in the works, yes. Rivit has given me permission to use his kombi model, so I'm doing a set of type 2 transporters, which will also include several early model campers, pop-top campers, late model westfalia campers, and possibly single and dual cab pickups (very rare) depending on how many points the model has for modifying. This may be the next set I work on, not sure yet..

Thanks guys! Just so everyone knows, thingfishs has pointed out a flaw with these, where they disappear into the ground out in the hills, so if anyone else experiences this, please let me know..steps are being taken to fix this if it's possible

Oh, also if you do get this on your machine, tell me if you have any terrain or slope mods installed, so I'll have a better idea of what is causing this (it doesn't happen for me)

False alarm there Elric, my apologies. I tested it on my mac setup where it turns out ALL udi cars do the same thing. I tested it on my pc where all cars, including the bajas, ran beautifully. (no slope or terrain mods in either case) So it looks like it's a mac thing, but as I don't use it as my primary setup I'm so concerned.

I meant NOT so concerned. For those that have already downloaded these, make sure you download version 1, there's a big increase in off-road ability. These things are a dream to drive around the hills in, and I have to say, it's nice driving through town with the high beams on and having everyone get out of the way!
