Photovoltaic Power Plants  1.0

About This File

While SimCity 4 does offer a Solar Power Plant, it is actually of thermal type (uses reflectors to concentrates solar power, in order to heat water and generate steam). Instead it lacks a Photovoltaic (or else solar panels) power plant.

This pack offers a set of Photovoltaic Power Plants, using custom animated and high-definition props. The pack contains 6 power plants, in three different configurations: Stand-alone solar panels (for modular lots), Small Power Stations, and Large Power Stations (Solar Parks). And of course, you can use the Lot Editor to make your own lots, using these props. The pack also contains a Menu Management Lot (MML) to reduce its footprint on the Power Menu (uninstall it if you want these lots readily available).

For realism, these lots feature  different characteristics and economics. Their lifespan is short, their plop cost is steep, but the production cost is low. This means that the initial (capital) cost is a considerable part of the total expenditure. Also their output is quite low, which means that you will need considerable amounts of space in your cities to install them. But they can prove useful for small communities and rural or off-grid areas. And of course, they generate virtually no pollution.

Note: There are two versions of the panel props included in the pack, a dark blue and a lighter one. You can choose the one you prefer Remember to REMOVE one of these sets. Only one may be installed.

No doubt that cogeo does his own BATs. One question though, what's animated? Looking good as most of your creations. Very well done!

Yay, they're finally out. Great work with these cogeo (and they are most definitely 100% his work) I predict these will be a staple in my city. Good on you for taking your time with these (it's been worth it) Check out his link, you can see the animations live.

I'm terribly sorry. I have'nt really seen you have BATs before. I just got confused becuase when I clicked on it some one gave it a '1' so I assumed it was just another spam upload. Sorry about that.

Nice work, I get to finally use the ones you made and also make my own lots if needed. :) They are similar to PEGs, as that is the only ones I can think of them being close to, but his doesn't move like this set & look quite different. Thanks for the lovely work, it is a nice addition to the other ones I mentioned.

These are wonderful! The only complaint I have are with the moving ones. They move way too fast and they make em unrealistic. Other than that, they are great. look good, priced right, and the power output is fair. Good job.

They look excellent, and I love the way you let us pick and choose which combination of plants to use. Your next assignment is to animate each mirror of the thermal collector plant (the one in the movie Sahara).

My only complaint is that the operating costs are too high. Although it's only half the original version's, it's still twice as much as coal. The actual stats should place solar plants at a high price and low operating costs.

I can make more power with a coal fired plant and absorb the pollution with trees... and it costs less. I think you should reduce the price. Also, how does a renewable energy plant have a lifespan of 30 years? How does that work? Otherwise, it looks excellent, maybe you could release a new version without the price and without the weird 30 year lifespan.

Just for the realism point, this does fit. The batteries used typically have a 20 year max life span. You might get 10-15 out of the cells, before pitting renders then inoperable Each battery costs about $1800 and each unit should have at least 200 batteries. So giving this a 30 year replacement, is fairly accurate. The one for 10K is a bargain.
