About This File

I realize that something similar has recently been uploaded, but what I offer now is something I have been using myself, and now offer to the STEX for you, should you choose to download!

It is a 1x1 solar panel which is essentially a 1/20-scaled version of the in-game Solar Power Plant. (Initial plop cost is more, to keep an incentive on placing the larger Solar Power Plant over 20 small ones.)

Specifications:

  • Name: Small Power Plant
  • Lot Size 1x1
  • Initial Cost: §1800
  • Monthly Cost: §50
  • Power Generated: 250 MWh
  • Pollution Generated: Why would solar cause pollution?
  • Dependencies: None
  • Miscellaneous Data:

    • Age Degredation Rate: .00164
    • Soft Failure Threshold: .949
    • Hard Failure Threshold: 1
    • Hard Failure Type: Doesn't Explode
    • Flammability: 4
    • Water Consumed: 0
    • Wealth Level Represented: High Wealth
All necessary files are included and, as always, no dependencies! Because it is small enough, I also included the .gmax file. If you use it in any of your own BATs, please give credit; 'tis all I ask.

Thanks for looking!

For a 1/20 scaled-down Solar Power Plant, the plop cost would be $1500 ($30000/20 = $1500...No one said solar was cheap) Because 20 of these would equal one regular solar power plant and the footprint for the solar plant would take up 25 squares, I decided to increase the plop cost to preempt just using these in place of the solar power plant. This way, it is kept in balance with the default power plants in the game!

looks like i have started a fad. Anyhow i will have a rating once i have seen it upclose on my machine. It fits in pretty well but it would look better if you had some sort of building to contain power electronics.

I think maxis tends to downplay solar and wind power in their game. People are finding that many solar pv units can last much longer than anticipated. In addition, materials science has yielded panels far more powerful than anybody anticipated even a decade ago.

OH yeah! This looks yummy. I'll have to mod it a bit, change cost, and stop the ground leveling, but other than that, awesome work!

Great mod, but I think that this is unrealistic in terms of energy output vs. operating costs. I don't consider the $30,000 solar thermal plant accurate for the size of plant or costs. Wind generates more per unit of land than solar, but solar should be cheaper to operate. ~$250, 50MW, @$5/month my estimate.
