RisingSun Oil Refinery  1.0

About This File

First, I'd like to give my special thanks to @ALTX and @Equinox, who both helped with a big share of modding this lot.

The oil-refining company Rising-Sun has come to SimNation and are expanding like crazy. They have struck oil in your city and need to construct an oil-refining complex.

The lot has a custom icon and description, custom query text and sound, and can be found in the rewards menu.

MONTHLY INCOME: $950 per month.

Dependency: Maxis Prop Names and Query Fix

Cori Edit: Added dependency linky and a new screenshot.

What's New 1.0

Released

New screenshot while editing the description to add the dependency linky. (Nothing has changed in the download file.)

Hm ... OK, I don't quite trust EasyTweaker on that aspect, I'll have to revisit old times and bring up the ole' DatGen4 ... ;)

The lot provides 1,000 industrial jobs. A query customized even more will be forthcoming once I become very familiar with the methology. :)

Considering that this is made with only Maxi's props, it is very well done indeed! Plenty of nice details on the lot.

Are there still plans to give this lot jobs? I downloaded it the other day, and wanted it to actually employ people, so I opened it up in iLive's Reader, and gave it 1000 jobs. I noticed in a comment from back in 2004 that Equinox said it had jobs, but my download from the other day definately didn't. If you will allow me (or don't want to fix this one yourself), can I re-upload this with jobs? Great job by the way, I like the fact that there are no dependencies, just maxis props.

This Is a great Refinery! Love IT! Great Detail. I would like it if it came Equipped with Jobs though. I noticed the refinery capacity is excessivly high. The largest refinery in the world produces only 1.2 million barrels a day (Reliance Jamnager Complex in India)

I am playing SimCity 4 in 2024.
Yeah, I'm very late to the party lol.
I downloaded this lot, which has been one of my favorites for years.
But I notice with this and other of your models that part of them appear incomplete to me. Storage tanks and maybe other things are missing.
It also happens to me with other batches after Rising Sun.
No doubt the problem is mine, but I want to know what it is.

It's like I'm missing dependencies, I don't know.
I don't think anyone will answer at this point, but I don't lose anything by trying.

Yep. You nailed it. That is indeed the trouble. *

Long, long ago there were a couple of files that made a copy of all buildings (including the little storage tanks and such) be available as props. Use of those files was so ubiquitous that peeps didn't even mention them as a dependency. :O

Now there's an even better version and this is what you need:

Maxis Prop Names and Query Fix

The main reason your post worked is because the first post of a new member alerts all staff and we swarm in to see if it's a spammer before approving it. *;)

Plan B is to post in the CFI thread here saying I can't find the dependencies and then also post a linky to the file you are working with.

I will also edit the description of the file to include a linky to the dependency so other peeps'll know.

Wow, great!
It's good news to have found you guys!
After making the main comment it occurred to me to convert the game's own buildings into dependencies, then, the invisible parts of the lot appeared!
I saw that the Rising Sun Refinery it's now updated to a new version, I'm going to download it and install it as well!
Thanks a lot!!
In the hypothetical case that someone out there is interested in further expanding this petrochemical lots, a topic I really like about these industrial facilities, are two things: Flare Stacks and Delayed Cokering Towers.
I already have the Flare Stack that doubles as a fire station... great work there!
There are several models of flare stacks in real life, it would be interesting to be able to get other variants... I swear I would fill the map with them lol
And I think anyone who wants a refinery in their game will want to have them all. Even in nighttime lighting, it would add to the flame a texture of intense glow. It would be quite nice!
I've loved these things since Blade Runner... and my travels where they were.

Another thing about the refineries (and there is nothing about these) and that are a really attractive aspect of these industries, are the Delayed Cokering Units.

Petroleum coke is extracted there. It's kind of like a furnace or something.
These towers are usually, after the torches, the point of the refineries that catches my attention the most (and the highest).
As far as these cokering units are concerned, there is nothing for SimCity 4 yet... so I raise it if there is anyone interested in creating them.
I would do it, but I don't know how and I don't have space on my pc lol.

That's all I can offer, ideas.  I hope someone will find it useful.

I appreciate the quick response and attention, a big, big hug to all!
Happy New Year, all year long!

Whoa there! *

Hang tight. It does say it's updated (and by me), but that's because I added a larger screenshot and the board software got all excited. :whatevs:

The file under the download button is unchanged. :nyah:

However, I've read thru all the comments and it seems they intended to add jobs so your Sims could work there and it was promised like three times, but never actually updated. I propose we fix it once and for all for what was intended. *

Additionally, after having queried it once in my play session the custom sound not only plays then, but again at random times as I was doing other things in my city. o.O

Have you experienced that too? I've had other files with that sound bug and @Cyclone Boom fixed them for me long, long ago. The key point will be trying to remember just what they need to fix the sound.

I presume you've checked out all their other files? There are a few in the same RisingSun series. *;)

Good!
Certainly now that you mention it, there is a sound that the refinery generates that is like sticky oil hahaha!
It never seemed like a bad thing to me. I attributed it to the mod, as a sound that reminds you of “everything this lot pollutes”.

I'll be honest with you: I downloaded all the files concerning this refinery, even the pipelines and the first flarestack made from a chimney from the base industry of the game :P

Hi @LucasE12

Those are good suggestions. Regarding existing refinery and industrial themed items, I recall content by @tag_one and @Simmer2 (see their files lists here and here). You might've already found these, but I figure to mention them just in case. *;)

I thank you for the content of these two users.
The funny thing is that I searched at the time for Cape Hatteras lighthouse... and no results were listed. LOL
Now I have it, thanks to you. Thanks a thousand times!
I also downloaded some more dependencies, and although there are some batches out there whose ground has no textures, it's getting better for the moment.
As for the refinery:
- Flare Staks models is still the same as always, I found no new ones outside of the ones we already know between that files.
- I have not yet seen any model of a delayed cokering unit so far.
Anyway, they are accessory things that could be done someday.
I like the way it looks.
I also downloaded the 3d camera mod, although it deforms the buildings, it's entertaining lol
And... yes, I recently saw “Shawshank Redemption” and I liked the prison design. I tried to emulate it.
I wouldn't want to be locked up in that thing.
Well, it's being very entertaining.
Best regards!
