About This File

Updated July 28, 2007! All my old files are being updated and re-released to fix a host of minor issues and mistakes I made when I was still learning. The lot and desc files are the same the original meaning that the new version will replace the old one in your cities without any brown boxes as long as you delete the previous version. A BSC Cleanitol file will be available on SC4Devotion's BSC exchange as soon as I have all the updated files released, which will make the job of deleting the old versions easy.

The Kensington Manor Building is based on an actual building in Calgary’s Kensington neighbourhood (the real building is a lot smaller than my BAT). Kensington Manor can be best described as 3 and ½ storeys high. Street level is actually in between floors. The basement can be accessed by a half flight of stairs or a wheel chair ramp directly from the sidewalk. The Kensington Manor Building boasts several high-end stores that include a jeweller, a watch shop and a women’s clothing store. The building also has a basement café (The Danube) that specializes in crepes. The upstairs is mostly office space that is occupied by a development company that builds and designs condominiums.

This is the third entry in my series of Kensington BATs and is part of my continuing effort to diversify our options for small commercial buildings. Kensington Manor Building grows on a 3x3 lot on the Houston and Euro tile sets. It provides CS$$$ jobs and fits w2w. There is one dependency

Hey spa, look good! Great you cleared up that wierd rendering error... I'm downloading. The back of the lot is sort of empty. The area between parking and building. 9/10!

Wow- I like how the street facade of the building angles slightly. Great work on the street-level windows/storefronts as well! More weathering (or a different texture) on the roof would make it look even better.

Thanks everyone. Few replies. Sc4Noobie, the texture problem is actually still there but it's only visible on the back view on the 3rd zoom. Nothing I could do about it since it appears in the lot editor and not in GMAX. I thought of putting benches in the area you mentioned but I ended up deciding to just leave it empty.

Marcszar I'm not entirely happy with the roof either :) It took quite a bit to get a texture that matched the trim and didn't clash with the pitched roof. This ended up being the best one out of the many I tried.

Great work. Next time I'm in Calgary I'll have to visit the Kensington neighbourhood to see what it's all about. Long live Canadian content!!

Spa- If you have Photoshop, try this: Open the texture and apply the burn tool to the areas where the roof texture will touch the wall. (I usually use a printscreen of the roof in gmax to see this) You can also use the dodge tool to lighten areas...

...where you would expect the sun to reflect off of- ie- in the middle of the roof where there are no shadows. You can also use the brightness and contrast settings to remove some of the blue tint. Gascooker created a tutorial with similar suggestions. Anyways, I look forward to your next creation!

Thanks Marcszar. I have photoshop and I have used layers to get dark or lighter areas in the past. I have never used the dodge and burn tools before though. I'll try them out next time around. Hullbr3ach, constructive criticism is welcome, but I'm afraid I don't know what to make of your comment. Could you be more specific about what you don't like?

Hydra: I have deleted your comment because it has no purpose here. If you want to moan about missing Simgoober do so in a thread elsewhere. Doing so in the comments section of a BAT that I took my free time to work on, test and share with the community is a tad insulting.
