About This File

*** UPDATED: Aug 12, 2006 ***

This pack contains Passenger Rail Station lots, with specially made and modded BATs, so as to become semitransparent, ie allow the lot textures, props and automata in the interior to show through. For example, the rail-track textures in the pics are not modelled, instead they are the lot's texture, and of course the train, people and the kinetic sculpture are visible.

The pack contains 3 lots, A Large Station, a Small Station and A Train Stop, ie a small station placeable directly on track, thus requiring no additional space. Of course, this kind of station does not offer parking facilities, so it can only serve the buildings within walking distance from the station.

The lots use prop families, so you will get a slightly different prop combination every time you plop them.

The stations are also specially modded, resulting in the following features:
- They all allow both passenger and freight trains through traffic.
- They do not perform traffic conversions from and to the tracks touching the station (a problem common to other rly station lots), only from and to the tracks entering the station.
- The through traffic paths/arrows appear as straight and continous lines instead of interrupted ones.
- And they should work on the Mac! (get FileJuicer to extract them)

Bulldoze Cost $10 $25 $75
Monthly Cost $10 $20 $50
Passenger Capacity 10000 15000 25000

Pollution (Air/Water) 1/1 over 1/2 tiles 2/2 over 1/2 tiles 5/5 over 4/5 tiles
Garbage Produced 6 tons/mo 12 tons/mo 25 tons/mo
Capacities may look high, however this is to offset the effect of the through traffic (a problem common to all stations that are built on the tracks); all other stats are on par with Maxis standards.

*Aug12 2006 Update: Nothing important, just added some few props (phonebooths, newspapers), they are otherwise the same.

Dependencies:
- SemiTransparent Train Station Models (these are the BATs)
- BSC Textures Vol 01 (Former "BSC Textures MEGA Pack" on the STEX)
- BSC MEGA Props - SG Vol 01

Amazing work, cogeo. I think this is the most beautiful and perfect station on stex to date. Thank you so much.

I LOVE the concept!... clever.. HOWEVER I don't agree with the artificially high CAPACITY values... I understand your reason, but a real station would not be built on a MAIN LINE.. stations should be placed consistent with capacity OR the station SHOULD BE on a siding track.. A siding track will get mostly local traffic, thereby not having the problem you speak of. I have not down-rated you for this.. just pointing it out. Nice work.

@ SC4BOY: What's true for reality is, unfortunately, not true for SC4. As long as the station is adjacent to a rail track, traffic will jump to the station let, get converted into pedestrians, be teleported to the far end of the lot and converted into rail passengers again. This is due to the fact that rail station lots don't have an entry cost and converting between two means of transport doesn't take any time in SC4, either. :( (cont.)

Thus, a siding track would require a space of at least one free tile between itself and the main track, and the siding track _minus the station length_ would have to be several tiles longer than the bypass track, which would require a rather acrobatic track layout. That's why it's hard to separate through traffic from the rest, and this is why BATters often choose high capacity - to keep the stations more user-friendly.

Thank you all for the nice comments! The GLR set is now in the works. @SC4BOY: Indeed, most players prefer this arrangement, ie place stations on top of the main track, and I had to satisfy the majority. Plus these stations are not terminals, they are through stations. Local/suburban stations typically have this arrangement. It's very easy to mod the capacities if you prefer a different playing style. Please note that these stations will NOT utilise the adjacent track, only the through track.

sigh... Isn't it truly said when people like cogeo spends so much time and works his tail off to deliver this excellent product, yet only to be overall/avg. rated 9/10 by bunch of idiots? This project deserves nothing less of 10/10. Excellent work mister!

I don't think it will work with mac, the dependancies are .exe programs that i can't use. Is there a way to use it without all the extras you have to download?

@rctshack: I just meant this plugin doesn't have the capacity problem on Mac, common to many other stations. Unfortunately computer games are mostly for PCs. Mac users can extract the files contained by using the Filejuicer utility. You can use it to extract the contents of the dependencies as well. But this may not even be necessary, as the dependencies are all from BSC, and I think there is a BSC Mac Archive, you can dl them directly from there. Pls Check the Mac Forums.

i'm gonna try these. if they work as described, great work! i especially like, that trains passing by cannot be accessed. sounds like more realism.
