Snowfall and drifts etc
Jimbobbedyjobob commented on Jimbobbedyjobob's City Journal Entry in Victoria!
Hihi... Thanks for your input/comments. Yeah, it IS A bit more of a developer's thread I guess. But I there's no specific place for that here as far as I can tell. I started making a gallery then discovered the city journals (I am very new to Simtropolis) and this seemed like the best space for what I am doing. Anyway, i shall keep updating as I go -
So I am building an ambitious 19th century british theme for Cities... I have two issues right now: 1: Snow A: Each individual house you see in the pics is, technically, a prop (long story), they don't get snow-drifts building up round the base of their walls. Is that a problem? B: DO I need to stop snow from appearing on the steps of the houses, as it's the only snow build-up they get :/ 2: Corners and Adverts I have created 10 buildings, five with ads on the left side and five with ads on the right side. In-game they really don't appear often. I think the number of cells that the game reads as "Corner" is far lower than we, looking at it, feel are "Corners". Should I just change the advert-buildings to normal, non-corners so they appear at random throughout?

Gotta admit it makes me glum that I cant get the houses to stack like this AND have the proper Building Snow Effects and _lod distances. But built as Props they just FIT better... sigh Thanks for the input though! much appreciated. -

Pollarded Trees. to pollard. I think that's the name, adjective and process. -

To quote Wikipedia: " Futuro, or Futuro House, is a round, prefabricated house designed by Matti Suuronen, of which fewer than 100 were built during the late 1960s and early 1970s. The distinctive flying saucer-like shape and airplane hatch entrance has made the houses popular among collectors. " Requested by Boformer, built by me. A great little building to add quirk to any cityscape. Also available with closed hatch. -

I'm also in the process of building just such a theme. Nothing's uploaded yet... But it's coming. -
Thanks for that! My main issue with lots of buildings out there is the total lack of dirt. Even a modern city with pollution regulations has dirt!

One could, for example, activate an animated Prop to appear and cycle from hour x to hour y? or with the market example, an animated market in daytime, and a closed up mesh for night? that would be amazing. -

Time-Of-Day related appearance/mesh replacement? Would there be any way to have a different mesh and/or and animation linked to the time of day in game? I'd love to be able to build an outdoor market square where the stalls closed up/packed up at night. -

Ok, I'll see if I get time to rustle up a mesh over the weekend. -

The first fifteen finished houses are loaded in Only the Working Class Urban Level 1 1x1s... But it's a start :) -
SO, for the Victoria! District Theme I am building for Cities Skylines, I am painting a few of the Corner Houses to Be with Wall Adverts. Not exactly historically accurate, but I am enjoying making them. Here are some samples of the down-and-out poorest housing adverts.

The windows are pretty much as good as they're gonna get cos I am using props to build them, but I guess they'll have to do-

So, now that I am at the stage where I can just do the texture changes for all the different variations, I can have fun with the wall adverts!-

I'm at the stage with the Working Class Terraces where I can just make all the texture variations... Just finished the first finalised Left Corner end-of-terrace wall advert... I hope you like it.

Yup, All seems to be working as expected. Just need to iron out all the bits and bobs, dirty up the maps, load-in, and link the Levels in the District Theme Editor...
