SO, for the Victoria! District Theme I am building for Cities Skylines, I am painting a few of the Corner Houses to Be with Wall Adverts. Not exactly historically accurate, but I am enjoying making them. Here are some samples of the down-and-out poorest housing adverts.

The windows are pretty much as good as they're gonna get cos I am using props to build them, but I guess they'll have to do-

So, now that I am at the stage where I can just do the texture changes for all the different variations, I can have fun with the wall adverts!-

I'm at the stage with the Working Class Terraces where I can just make all the texture variations... Just finished the first finalised Left Corner end-of-terrace wall advert... I hope you like it.

Yup, All seems to be working as expected. Just need to iron out all the bits and bobs, dirty up the maps, load-in, and link the Levels in the District Theme Editor...

I'm glad to say that my Stacking Terraces, even with the ridiculous number of stairs they have at the back in case of hills, are coming in at a lower tri-count than the original double-house meshes Templates are done now. including textures and normals. Tomorrow, template Specular and Illumination maps, then building the L1 1x1 Variations! VICTORIA!

Well, after lots of damn fiddly setting up testing, my stacking UK terraced houses, and their terrain-hugging garden walls, seem to be coming together! Chuffed, me.

Thanks to @boformer's Shader Switch Prop script, and patient instructions from boformer, my wall tester is working like a charm! I finally feel like I can get on and just build stuff now!-

My first ever mesh loaded into the Editor
Jimbobbedyjobob posted a gallery image in Cities: Skylines
From the album Victoria!
I was inordinately happy when I got my first mesh into the Editor. Obviously without textures... -

Even though i read up and based the model on a scale of 8m per plot, I wanted to check how the house looked with the game's assets. -

Here's the L1 1x1 Workign Class Terraced Cottage with the window, door and roof ridge baked as normals. Gotta keep a handle on the Tris! -

I am planning to make this Theme have clearly defined social classes to all the buildings. That'll be organised (hopefully) by wealth-level availability of each growable asset. Houses especially will indicate their wealth levels visually by the size per plot, and general filthiness. I decided, though, for the L1 working class houses that a plastered trapezoid lintel was far far too posh, and modelled these brick arch lintels instead. -

So, I really wanted to test whether the mesh could project from the plot-size as defined when saving the asset. Turns out it can! I am gonna make some badass badness now I know this! (I didnt bother with a colour-mask map while testing this, which is why some of the shops look like they are soaked in heathen's blood) -

If I am going to the trouble of making basements for my houses, then I WANT GARDEN WALLS THAT CONFORM TO THE TERRAIN! So, after a day of trawling forums, and testing various asset types for the walls, I gave up and emailed CO. Bless 'em, they replied and sent me a link to Boformer's Shader Switch script! I havent managed to get it to work yet :/ and am sitting at my desk fuming. Which is why I am wasting time uploading pics to Simtropolis instead ;D -

No one likes flattening terrain, right? It just looks rubbish. So most Victoria! buildings wont. Consequently I am having to work out how to hide that ugly grey extrusion CO slap on the buildings' undersides. Solution: Building a tall basement Prop I can glue under the things Here its completely untextured, but got it lining up nicely! Final basement props will be much more simplistic meshes with most of the shape detail baked as normal maps. -

My only regret is that the street-level camera mod on Steam doesn't seem to adjust the focal length or the tilt-shift applied to the game cam. Damn hard to get a non-blurred pic in the cramped rainy streets of Victoria! -

Cacked my pants with joy to see my babies chuffing out smoke in a neat lil row. (I've downed the probability of each instance using the smoke Prop since this test. Thought it's looked naff having each house pumping out cookie-cut smoke in sync.) -
From the album Victoria!
Here you can see the more-or-less final textures on the L1 1x1 Working Class Terraced Houses. And my first test of making Props. I really wanted to be able to slap miserable looking laundry hanging to dry outside windows etc. -

Once, and only once I actually lined up the texture I am using (flemmish bond) with each poly so that the bricks in the arch wouldnt be out of line with each other. Took AGES. Ain't gonna do THAT again!
