  1. All in all I'd like to create pre-industrial cities, or at least cities that don't require a dictatorship of cars, electricity and exclusionary American zoning laws. I don't have to explain that cities have been around for millennia, with populations over a million, way before electricity was invented. So it should only be neccesary for large-scale buildings with electrified amenities, similar to how $$$ residents and higher densities require water in SC4. Electricity doesn't have to be centralized either; some buildings, like small industries, could power themselves, as could houses with solar panels, small windmills, generators etc.. Roads should not be code for "cars rule". Pedestrian paths and streets have been around for millennia, so those should be in the game, with asphalt or concrete roads being other options. Streetcars and bicycle traffic, with their own lanes and paths should be an industrial alternatives as well. Zoning should have mixed use. It's impossible to create classic European cities, Asian cities , or even old USA city cores in (vanilla) SC4. You can alternate between the zones themselves, but aesthetically there's a huge mismatch between residential and commercial buildings, with the latter being plain ugly most of the time. Commercial districts in SC4 are an eyesore, due to the dominance of glass, steel, concrete, plazas and parking lots. Compare that to the inner cities of Europe where businesses are located in beautiful, historical buildings, which also have people living in them. So there should be zones with mixes: R+C, C+I, and R+I, to reflect the reality of most cities around the world. When you start a city, you shouldn't have to start with big polluting farms and factories. Small scale farms, workshops and guilds were there long before large scale industrialization and they are still around today, so low density "manufacturing" industry should be available by default. SimCity has always had it backwards: it was $$$ folks who built the first big factories, so why should a city with only $ residents end up with dirty factories and coal powerplants? The consequence is that $ people pollute the most and you want to replace them with $$$ as soon as possible. That's completely wrong. People living on smaller scales are always pushed around by people who hold bigger sway, and SimCity should reflect that. $ housing and working areas don't have to be ugly either. There's a lot of beautiful small, 'poor' houses and businesses out there. Just look at the villages in France; those people are "poor" but they still value beauty and the upkeep of their community, their culture. This means that buildings should also have a bigger variety in employees. They could have slots based on RCI (mixed) and wealth. A big factory for example could employ a large number of $ or $$ residents while employing a way smaller number of $$$ residents.
  2. NAM General Support

@Tarkus Thanks for the reply. I know for sure that the 4GB patch was done succesfully the first time, since I already saw there was a new backup version of the sc4 exe and a changed date. My PC is also 64 bit and the previous version of NAM worked just fine.
  3. NAM General Support

Hello there. I seem to have a problem with the NAM controller dat file. I can load the region screen but not the cities, as the loading screen freezes. This doesn't happen when I put the other NAM subfolders in the plugins; only when the NAM controller file is there, but this of course renders all puzzle pieces unusable. I've used the 4GB upgrade thing on the sc4 file. Does anyone know what to do about this? I have a digital SC4 Deluxe copy from Steam.
  4. Anduin Valley Revisited

Great update! The industrial area looks great and very realistic. I'll try not to miss the following updates. I feel like I've posted to this CJ a long time ago...
  5. San Portello By Nealos101

Yes, I'm so glad, it's back! Congratulations!! The new city already looks very promising! Oh yeah, back that region 100x up okay?!
  6. Lattica, Hemstead :: The River City

That city is really awesome! I like the suburbs the most, especially the very rich ones. The promenade looks great too. I'll definitly keep eye on this CJ!
  7. Sculpting Columbia River

Great update again! Too bad there are only 2 updates left, but I hope they are going to be the big and better than ever! To SLeini: You can combine the ave and the one-way roads if you have the NAM(one of the latest versions ofcourse).
  8. Lattica, Hemstead :: The River City

Isn't that the normal EL train? EDIT: Stupid, I didn't mention anything about the CJ! I think its good, you're building the city in a nice, detailed way! Keep that up!
  9. Temple

Very good, but it needs some more textures, I think.
  10. L.A. My Way

Wow, I think this L.A. is even better and more beautiful than the real L.A., cause its non-grid and very detailed. That hillside development also worked out very good! Keep this up man!
  11. Your holiday to Wanganui

Damn it... the end of this CJ has come very suddenly, I was hoping to see more... But it was really good that you have added an extra bonus! I'll just add the CJ tomorrow to my sig.
  12. Sculpting Columbia River

Hi there Jeronij. I said I would go Spain (recreation btw), but after one week I've came back for a few days, because my uncle died... I had a spared day so I could post a little comment to your CJ. Great airport, and Costa Tramuntana looks very good too ofcourse! See you after the next two weeks! (btw, our camping is in the south-east of the Pyreneees, the weather is great!)
  13. Sculpting Columbia River

AMAZING work Jeronij, once again! Your downtown is the most impressive one I've ever seen! I don't mind if it takes a few days until you post your update, the waiting always gets rewarded with your update! I'm going to Spain for three weeks, and I think I need a lot of catch-up work to do then. See you then!
  14. Your holiday to Wanganui

Wow, finally I see how you build your city and I'm impressed[:0]... And about the city name... sorry, but I never can make up very good names for a city... But mostly I just type a weird combination of letters and then I delete some of them until I get a good name. Sometimes I like the result, one time I had 'Minekion'
  15. GDV Mayor Mode Tropical Sea Set

    Sorry, forgot the two thumbs!
  16. GDV Mayor Mode Tropical Sea Set

Very cool man! This definitly gives me a tropical holiday feeling, in exchange I give it a 10/10
  17. Whats your prefered planning style?

I hate the grid, I think it's boring, so I plan with lots of curved roads. When it comes to high density, I zone in 4 by 4 zones, with a lot of space between them, so I can also add bus- and subway stations and parks. But the roads are always a bit curved.
  18. Your holiday to Wanganui

Nice mountains, and Phoenix Valley has a beautiful downtown and good suburban sprawl! Of your transit system, I like the EL rail the most. Great work! About what you said in the reply to me, GB is the second enemy of those terrorists, but I don't know of The Netherlands is one (I don't hope so). Luckily I live in a small city.
  19. Your holiday to Wanganui

Good you've had a nice holiday! I'll go to Spain in the weekend... Back to your CJ, I like the lauchpad facilities the most, it's very realistic with the rail. Haha a 'Space Village'... Newport and its marina are looking great too, you have a very complicated transit network! Keep it up! EDIT: I'm thinking about adding your CJ to my sig after this one is gone...
  20. San Francisco - Bay Area by Mexicanboy13r

OMG, that golf course is way bigger than I thought! What's next? I hope I'll see something else soon from SF...
  21. Sculpting Columbia River

Great update, Jeronij! That park looks very tropical and very quiet. And I also like that low wealth res zone, which I mostly don't like, but that depends on HOW you plan and build it. I do have a question though, where does the water in the pond coming from? Is it some kind of underground watersource? The pond will be empty soon without a source! Oh well, see you later!
  22. 4ms Airport Billboards

If KLM is it too, I'll download it (I have the KLM airplanes too)!
  23. BSC Brick Canals Water Purification Plant

    Very good expansion, 10/10
  24. The Republic of Nadolia

    Cool, I like Dutch cities!
