After much patience and controversy the new simcity is out, and regardless of what you think of it, the hype is rising. Simcity 4 is becoming less operational with new OS's. So the question is.. how many of you will be uninstalling Simcity 4 to make way for Simcity? A lot of people don't like the fact you need internet access(at all times) to use the game, but I don't think this will cause as much of an impact as you'd expect. Out of the sheer blood, sweat and tears dribbled into this game, I'll be playing it quite a while yet - maybe even until SimMars releases v.1!(non-beta)

My game has been really annoying me since my girl downloaded some bits off the stex. It worked perfectly before, but now the colour cursor(always ticked but didn't work)works! I can't see radius when placing school, can't see ghost road(before placing) nor zoning until placed. Wat? I've took plugins out folder to no avail, system restore is useless(never works!), uninstalled NAM and the just added NWM. I have lost my sc4 disk to make matters worse. You get grow-able (builds itself in right circumstances) and ploppable(pick from menu, usually parks or landmarks tab).

..so from what you're saying a quad processor may not aid playing SC4 at all - depending on cores frequency?

Well, I updated the Nvidia driver and it's helped a bit. Considering my pc's age(but reliability), do you think it would be worth upgrading or buying new? 200 bucks isn't much to go on these days. Quite like the sounds of AMD's new 8 core bulldozer cpu, needs a certain motherboard socket though. Might be time for a new motherboard.. and probably power supply by the sounds of it

At least in the wake of 2013's demise.. we might see a few more people appreciating the work put into SC4.

Totally agree.. didn't know page filing could be so harmful! With the many different transistors we've came up with over the years, we're probably on the verge of another, slightly better type being created. Oh, and there may be a few more transistors before quantum! Do you think there's a chance in the future(if ea keeps making abominations!) of creating multi-tasking code for SC4? I know that would probably require re-doing packages of work, but is it possible?

Same bro, I got this computer out a skip 10 years ago and paid £20 to a friend to fix it(re-ram). I've had no hardware changes(seriously.. except an update or two) and my game worked perfect while mounted on virtual drive with NAM 30. It only bugged down when I updated the NAM. Re-installing version 30 made no difference. I think the problem may be my old Nvidia grapics card - after I upgrade I'll let you guys know how it went. I can't wait to get the game working again just to show how well it does. If my processor keeps up, I plan to get more ram and start helping SimMars on transport. Put it this way - I was running Win98 until last year - no problems! Tried Simcity4 from torrent file, and it worked! Bought it off steam and it didn't work! Got my old CD back from a friend in the end and installed it on the misses's laptop to try new nam. And to answer your origional question - this PC is from the stone age when FAT 16 was dope, and hard disk errors happened every time you re-started. It is made to last because it 'had' to(and will)! New stuff is made to be repaired. do you think I should try ram or graphics? for science!

Well.. the title says it all really. I never bothered with simmars to begin with, but when I heard it installs seperately to simcity I changed my mind. These guys have done really well! Sadly it has installed on top of my game, so when I run simcity 4 then Mars plays. I have no extras except ep1, updateBAT and the two building files. I use a no-cd(stayed 1.1.638 after patches..) which accepted the updates so I figured it was compatible. So do you think the problem is the no-cd?

simcity 4! But seriously, I think it's a good idea to work on the graphics some more. Also changing how desirability works regarding what James said in the first post is quite a good idea. It's too easy for slums to henerate mansions and for high desirability ares to create small houses. I really think ewa need to rethink their current gamer out a bit more..

I'll never buy simcity'13 untill most the problems are dealt with.

Some new graphics (eg.nvidia) pack have troubles with compatability. I've heard about new laptops using 90%cpu to play sc4 as well. I think it may be a problem with your graphics. I had the same problem on my old tower where the game works fine except for zooming and exiting program(screen flashes for a few seconds). Try right click simcity.exe, compatability, tick disable visual, desktop and display scaling and try again. If not, reset. Go into game, go to display, swap between hardware/software, try again. Try adjusting the resolution in either windows or simcity. If you change windows to 800, then change simcity to play in 800 (https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=3683.0) it may lead to more stable graphic rendering. You could try running in windowed mode. Good luck!

I definately had a couple .exe files for small files, dude. Surely corrupt plugins(copied + pasted) can lead to working dat files and such being unstable? I kept the main plugin folder clear, just to be sure Re-installed anyway .. and I'm sure re-naming should work, but I prefer making a backup folder with working plugins, just in case .. too late, steam it was Why not DRM? I don't know much about downloading except utorrent

I may purchase SC13 at a later date once some issues are resolved, but will never give SC4 up. I have since purchased it off steam just because the game deserved it. 10 years later and still playing? The same can't be said about Simcity13..

Well believe it or not, I've been using a quite stable win98SE until January when I got my new ram allowing me to properly install XP. One week of smooth sc4 later my hard drive(NTFS supported) gives up. It wouldn't even partition in NTFS so I had to re-install 98! Oh well back to bad graphics and 2min pauses.. Why are you using such old hardware/software? 20 yr old office tower, 5 mhz AMD processor. It's a miracle the thing works in the first place It works surprisingly well on Chrome browser(as long as auto updates off - gupdate is a serious CPU hog)

I'm really surprised that Simmars 3 beta works so fluently.. even on my old comp. Makes you wonder if it's possible to re-structure the game completely. Cost a bit, though.

Actually I think that would make the game better. That's what Cities XL did when it became online only. well, if that means less people playing sim13 and more on sc4 then i'm game

I've removed all within plugin folder after uninstalling nam with no effect, still weird cursor stuff. It may be written into simcity data files I'm just gonna get digi version from steam. Least I don't have to find all the updates, though! ..Do any mods\plugins affect registry? I never even thought of copying folder *facepalm

I'd like to apologize for the misleading thread and double posting but I just find it ridiculous - all the false hype and criticism around this game. It has good graphics, multiplayer appeal, wait.. I can't think of any more nice things to say about the game. Although, Origin account, small maps, servers, online and constrictive constructive(ha) methods 'will' change over time and this game will vastly improve with internet services improving in smaller cities. EA likes fixing games once their out.

I hope they add Simcity('13) to this list soon. They can't even get their servers working in the first place -and that's with tiny maps. I, for one, am now sick of EA churning out half completed games and then making us pay premium for updates that should have been fixed before release. When trying a new game engine, then fair enough it's necessary because there's no point tweaking it to perfection and then roll it out to find it just isn't compatible.

These help quite a bit at the start of the game if your mayor rating is dropping. If you got a big city you may as well forget most of them. Does anyone know if changing the no. of cars/peds in game settings will affect this minigame?
