Thanks guys, I've downloaded just about everything I was interested in from both of the main 2 SC4 sites still around but as yet haven't opened any of the zips. so if they all have a base structure from the plugins then my request has been answered. My main concern was the first 2 folders with team names and then creator names. From that point on I can add other content found on 3rd party sites into an already set up structure and control the sizes of my dat-packed files after I eliminate any conflicts and clean up my plugins folder. At 65 my vision is starting to get a little fuzzy and my keyboard skills are minimal and the only 3 games I still want to play are SC4, Minecraft & Sims 3. I don't care for all the newer games where you need to access a ton of keys on the keyboard and when on a tablet I tend to mess up anything I'm building when using a touch screen. SC4 was always my favorite and this old Win 7 laptop with a broken screen hooked to my TV doesn't have enough memory to install NAM, so that kind of defeats the joy of building cities. The 2001 laptop isn't worth the cost of $80+ to increase the memory when I can buy a refurbished system for a few dollars more at $180 with a 128 GB SSD & 2TB drive, 16GB ram and a 2 GB GPU on Amazon and get a 10% discount on top of that because my son-in-law works for Amazon. Anyway if the new zip files have the first 2 folders in the structure I can work with that.

I'm about to buy a new system, I'm currently stuck using a damaged laptop with insufficient memory to play SC4. When I set up the new system I'm looking for a directory structure to start off with that's basically 2 folders deep. All I'm looking for is a list of the most common team groups with a list of the members of each group to start my structure off, it's been about 8 yrs since I've installed SC4 and since my last system crashed and took my main drive with it I lost all of my hard work organizing, and from what I can remember the BSC folder was a beast organizing and now that most sites have replaced the Auto installing files with zip files I just want to keep things grouped under the original teams. Either a zip file with names and empty folders or a simple txt file of the structure will work. After I get my system organized I'll dat pack and burn the original structure to DVD for future storage once I eliminate any conflicts and have the new system running the game again. If anyone can help an old man, thanks in advance. I'm not looking forward to reinstalling with my carpal tunnel problems.

System requirements question
platinumranger replied to platinumranger's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
I found out I had a second memory chip under my keyboard and can buy a used 2 gig chip on amazon to replace the 1 gb chip limiting my game. -
It's been years since I've installed this game. I'm installing it on an old laptop with windows 7 and 3 gigs of RAM. It's old and new memory isn't available anywhere so I'm stuck with what it has. I've increased the virtual memory of the system up to 6000mb because I want to install NAM 48 but it recommends 4 gigs of RAM. Will the virtual memory be enough to run the game or should I just forget installing NAM and keep trying to find an obsolete memory chip? It's an old dell latitude d520 from 2006 I'm trying to setup for my grandson.

Jenx Dulles and JFK Airport Patch and Transit Route Mod
platinumranger commented on atsf189's file in Transportation
I wasn't expecting anything this fast, I'm trying to reinstall the game after a 15 yrs absence and am glad they started replacing those archaic self installer programs with zipped folder structures, Last time I tried to reinstall the game I had corporal tunnel issues after 3 months of clicking 10x to install each file, now I can unzip and load my game in a few days. My main problem now is remembering how to read the train mods id's to avoid conflicts. I think it's only 4 id's I need to watch, passenger freight and cars for each type that replace oem trains.- 5 Comments

It's been almost 20 yrs since I installed SC4 and I'm looking for some installation guidelines for trains, I've searched everywhere and can't seem to find details about replacements and id numbers. I seem to remember issues if more than one engine or car had the same id number it wouldn't work and the new file structure format in DL content doesn't specify in the limited read-me files about which files can be used together and which need to be deleted. With everything being in mega zip folders now I seem to have dozens of train mods and none of the read-me's say you can have only 1 of these engines or cars. Did they change the structure of the game over 20 yrs or do the restrictions still apply and where can I find a guide as to which ones to delete to avoid conflicts.

After all these years why hasn't someone come up with a bulk installer that will install new content with a single click? I'm getting older and my hands don't work as well as they used to and all this clicking for weeks on end to reinstall content is really getting painful. These archaic installer programs are annoying when the content should be installed with 1 click and done with.

Thanks Corina. I'm installing a new game so saves aren't a problem and CAM & NAM are the last things I'm installing but wasn't sure if it mattered but I do remember seeing something about that NAM patch, I've already patched it but it should see it and update anything needed. I've installed as much as I could from old backup cd's and added a few new items, my next step is running Datanode to weed out duplicates then install the last 2 mods and let Cleanitall run since NAM always seems to have the newest version. Now I'm going to see if my old Mars maps "Valles Marinaris" are still available.

Been a few years since I've played. Installing on new PC, is there an install order if using both CAM 2.1.0 & NAM 42? Does it matter which is installed first to function correctly?

Is there a mod manager that can be used for SC4?
platinumranger replied to Lowfat Milk from Walmart's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Replacement power supplies aren't that hard to find on the web, just make sure it's certified for your model laptop. some have sense circuits built in and won't charge the battery if not matched, the laptop will still turn on but only when plugged in. I just got a new computer a few weeks ago and am not looking forward to months of clicking to install a few files into my new install of SC4. Who ever decided to create installers that require clicking for an our to install 1 file should have been strung up. Definitely not my favorite game for installing DLC into, but well worth it when done. OK for your conflict problem; try moving root folders from plug-ins about 5-10 folders at a time to your desktop then start the game. If it crashes put them back and move 5 more until you find a set causing it to crash then move 1 at a time back until it crashes then remove that folder and finish testing the remaining files in case you have more than one causing your problem. And don't forget to run your Cleanital files when installing new content, that can resolve some crash issues before they happen. When you install the latest NAM it comes with the latest version of Cleanital but it removes it during cleanup so during setup pause it and make a copy of that folder with Cleanital in it so it doesn't get removed, the latest version isn't always posted online when the new NAM versions come out. Those guys are amazing and usually too busy to get single files posted while working on improvements for NAM's next upgrade. Someone please make a bulk installer for DLC content to this game, a lot of us are in our Arthritis years now and all the clicking is getting to us when installing this game. also someone create a download manager that works, I used to use the LEX down-loader but cant get it to work anymore and I don't remember STEX ever having one. This time when I get all my Mega props and files I'm going to burn a few DVD's with my files then after installing all my desired files I'm going to burn a copy of my Plugin's folders as a backup for future installs.- 5 Replies

Thank You All I already use print screen and paint to save after tabbing out of game, but once in a while the crash is so fast I don't even get to read the window. Those were mainly the ones I was hopping were logged somewhere. As far as Data node, I'm for the most part computer illiterate and can barely figure out what it does plus the fact that most game tools are a hassle to use when your color blind and looking for results in a list. Some tool creators have added color options or patches to their tools but most just don't under stand how difficult color blindness actually is. My uncle use to take me hunting when I was a kid because the natural camouflage of most animals doesn't work when your color blind, I would point out about 30 animals before he would see his first one. Sometimes colors blend and sometime colors have a strobe effect when close to one another. I usually have my grandchildren tell me which lines are different colors if their around. Again Thanks to all
