  1. SC4Mapper config. help

If you are talking about the config.bmp, then you can do that kind of stuff in MS Paint.

Really it seems fun at first, but looking back on the stuff EA left out of the game, it may be good that they did. Before I learned all about computing I never knew this would be a hindrance. But should they do it, everyone would try it, and within a week, they'd be back to the plain SC4 once they find out that playing the game, lagging, and CTD and all that becomes unbearable. Also tha'd be like running an old CPU at 100% for 2 hours straight, which is the amount of time I play SC4 a day. That would result in a short lived CPU, might as well run the piece of green metal to a breaking point while it is at it. I know technology is extremely advanced, but they haven't invented 50ghz processors yet.

That's a 25 fold increase in the number of tiles. You could say "oh, just push some calculations onto another CPU." SC4 cannot use multiple CPUs, it must reside on a single processor. That's due to how the game must schedule each simulation "engine" to work in sync. And as such, we cannot "mod" larger cities from both a performance standpoint and from a moddability standpoint - you'd have to edit the exe, which we cannot do. quote> Yes, and imagine the bloat of 1638400 tiles on a single CPU. My old XP system has a AMD Athlon XP (1.6ghz), it couldn't handle barely anything I did in the game. When I first established a town that was a different story, but as you climed the rung up onto 100,000 residents (possibly lower), the game lagged extremely bad. You know, if you chose a city tile that was 20x20 and you tried to load 100,000 residents on it with my old system, that may be just as bad as a CPU stress test, and that old processor had a hard enough time running 3 programs at once!!! It has hard enough time running SC4 anyway without bogging down. Now I am temporarly stuck with my dad's computer (2 CPUs) and I run SC4 on both cores and it runs fine, but that is because I run through command line and run it raw without any plugins due to circumstances. Alas it still lags. Maybe not as bad, but it still lags. I even overclock it and it lags! BOTH cores! And imagine the folks with 3, 4, 5 GB of addons. That just adds to the stress. So as you can well imagine, even if law or other circumstances allowed us to hack the EXE, it wouldn't be worth it anyway. Also imagine the annoying CTD that might come of it.

Besides, most of the debugging from the game is done by tweaking, not to mention the custom content out there makes the game complete. That's random though. Anyway, really the only setback to this is computers. Maybe if you had a 50 ghz CPU it may be a good idea. Besides that, the game lags bad enough anyway. Really the things in the game that people think that shouldn't have been there or stuff that needs to be modded (or wants to be modded), is not for our own good. A city that is 20x20 miles, if my XP system still worked, would be a toad to build on.

I dont notice any difference between this and the other one.
  7. Some questions from SimNewbie

Welcome to these forums. I would say that first issue you were having is that you downloaded a height mod or somethign like that, try and locate something related to that or whateer in your plugins folder and remove it. Regarding your crashing issue, this may be due to plugins as well. The more you have, I have noticed it makes the game more and more unstable. Possible fixes are to defragment your hard disks, (or at least the one SC4 is on), and there is also a trick that runs the game through command line (Command Prompt). The code is shown below: C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c START "high priority sc4" /high "C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Apps\SimCity 4.exe" -w -intro:off To use this command line code, create a shortcut to the SC4 executable on the desktop, and in the "target" box, clear all the text inside, and replace it with that, you can just copy and paste it. For question 3, those come with the NAM (they are the Pedmall tiles) The NAM can be found here With regards to your airport question, you can use the RMIP Kit, which the entire series is found here. An alternative to the RMIP Airports can be found here Hope this helps.
  8. My Favorite Mods

My Favorite Mods NAM (Network Addon Mod, as well as other components (SAM, NWM, RHW) Seriously, who doesn't like the NAM? Created by the NAM Team RTMT (Roadtop Mass Transit) RTMT Is great and saves space in my cities! I can just stick my bus stops on top of ny roads instead of having to use the Maxis ones and use up valuable space. Must have. Created by the RTMT Peoples Columbus Terrain Mod Very good Terrain Textures, especially with snowcapped set to low (made by Jeronij) Realistic Water Mod Very great looking water! Makes for some nice screenies (Joerg and Teriusu) Buggi's Cheat DLL Great mod, but I barely cheat though. (Buggi) Raise the UI Mod I run 1920x1080 in Windowed Mode. Great great work, alas I do play fullscreen sometimes. (warrior) Every Automata Mod Out There Love the new automata! (anybody who mods automata) PEG God/Mayor Mode Pine Tree Mods One of my primary god mode trees. Would recommend to anyone (Pegasus) All the BSC Seasonal Trees Most favorite mayor mode trees and LE props. Great work. (Jeronij) BSC Props/Textures Allthough I don't use them, they make for functioning BATs at least! (BSC Team) PEG Snow Mod Make your cities winter wonderlands (Pegasus PEG "No More Brown Boxes" I collect all the dependencies, but incase I skip some by accident, an absolute must have. It turns the brown boxes into black, red, and green smudges. (PEG) Last but not least, Palm to Aspen Mod I don't use coastal things too much, but when I don't, I hate the unrealistic palm trees. I like this mod. And when I want my palms back I just scootch the mod out. The list has been updated with 3 new positions.

  19. The Quality of Workmanship

I remember back up in Colorado we rented a house up in the Rockies out a good amount of miles west of Denver. We got a free fridge with the home. We moved in, fridge was broken, the guy wouldn't replace it. And we didn't have the money to buy a new one, my parents had spent enough money paying for a room in the hospital and giving birth to me. The roof was awfully damaged, and it would storm, parents in the shower, normally in this home you can take a shower when it is storming, touch the faucets, nothing happen, I do it all the time, no harm done. Every single time you took a shower in there when it was storming, or even barely storming, you would get shocked. Landlord goes "Oh I'll fix it", so he slaps some tar or whatever it was on the roof, no fix. Whenever it would rain, house would flood, he didn't care, thus we moved out. We were going to move anyway though. But we did get tired of that nonsense.

  22. Essential Add-ons

I use the NAM with all the Add-Ons for it (NWM, RHW, SAM). I also use RTMT, as well as the Columbus Terrain Mod, and I also use the Realistic Water Mod. I also downloaded some of BSC's and jeronij's seasonal trees. Also if you want some other great mods, hop over to the LEX, I've downloaded half of my custom content from there.
  23. JS Parks Pack

Looks a bit too plain and the trees growing through concrete seem a tad unrealistic. But ok for your first try
