  1. How Do You Start Your Cities?

haha, the PEG garbage chute is the best. Understanding that you like city beautification, I don't understand, then, why you use a complete grid system of roads, with bus stops every 3 or 4 tiles, and avenues and highways in such high proximity to each other. Nonetheless, it would be nice to see your development in the future.
  2. Upgrading to Mac OSX Lion?

Although other BATs are important, the NAM provides a pretty fundamental expansion to the game. Without NAM, the game, in my opinion, is not as fun and realistic. As a result, if you want to continue to play SC4 on mac, do not upgrade to lion. Another solution, or way you can upgrade to lion is by making an extra partition on your mac, and install Lion on that. After that you could transfer all files (except for your SC4 files) and make your snow leopard or previous OS simply for the purposes of running SC4.

  4. How Do You Start Your Cities?

I see you start quite conservatively. How long does it take on average for you to start getting your metropolises?

  6. Hello Simtropolis, As most of you know, there is a huge range of custom made buildings that you can download and use in your cities, but, which one do you like the most? Which one makes you smile when you see it in your cities? My favorite building is the LG Electronics Building by altuditu.
  7. Yes! Deadwood's Servos are absolutely fabulous, they add they realistic factor into the game eh? (don't judge. it's a canadian site)

I see. Trains do add that extra touch to any city
  14. How Do You Start Your Cities?

haha, in real life? or in game? or both. LOL. Suburbs are cool, they're more relaxed than the city for sure. Why not subways? They are, in a sense more user-friendly than trains, because for trains you actually need to clear out an entire section for tracks and stations.
  15. Yes, those are the Maxis default malls. I belive that they come in one style for all of the tilesets, but I will admit they are quite rare. You have to zone a fairly large area for them to grow, if I recall correctly the aprox. lot dimmensions are about 5x7 ingame spaces. If you mean train stations, I would say the Maxis default 'Grand Centeral' station, which I'm pretty much sure is a reward. Something about its size and appereance. Then again, there probably are better looking stations out there, but considering that I haven't gotten too far into custom content and can't seem to do anything meaningfull with the BAT, this is my favorite for now. Also, I do usually use the Maxis default stuff for residential; some of the houses in the Huston and New York City tilesets are actually pretty good looking. Grand Central is a tad small though. Three tracks (or six) that converge into one (or two, you chose) track, and the platforms are short too LOL. if it were a little longer I think I would like it, but, it's just too short to be realistic for trains eh? The Houston set actually has some wicked stuff! LOL. The new york set has good rural/suburban buildings.
  16. How Do You Start Your Cities?

You should ask in the Bugs & Technical Issues. Regarding the planning, I have attached a plan I made of a city I am making right now. I just made it in MS Paint. It consists of 4 large city tiles. The dark blue lines mark the boundaries of the tiles. Red lines are highways, yellow are avenues. At the bottom there is a blue line that represents the ocean. At the top right there is another one that represents a river. I have named the major roadways and also marked in green some of the major areas of the city (where houses, businesses etc. will go). Feel free to use it or the same concept as it. Here is the plan: planned.zip Okay, thanks! I saw the plan, so you simply just get a rough idea of how you want things to work.... I see btw, I saw that you wanted to make a seaport, how do you make straight edges? Do you use the PEG Levelling tool? I see, you're a suburbanite! lol. just kidding. Do you use transit? trains? subways? and what's plopamatic 9000?
  17. A Japanese Version of Simcity

  20. Can't find it?... Ask here!

Hello, It would be greatly appreciated if people could tell me some links to residential high rises. Any theme of building is fine, but I am also interested in the ones that can be seen in Asian cities. Thank You! Also, does anyone know where I can get the train/elevated rail skin for Japanese trains such as these: Thanks again!
  21. How Do You Start Your Cities?

Hmm interesting. I wanted to do that, but I didn't know where to start LOL. When you start up these plans do you use a grid paper so that you can make everything spaced out correctly? or is it more of a free hand thing? I used to do that for OpenTTD, where I would take a screenshot of the area and then draw out my railway routes, etc. I like your view of Simcity. Making the most beautiful, most successful city possible haha. What does Cheat o'matic do? does it just add money? @everyone else: Do you guys know where I can ask for help about graphic issues on this forum?
  22. oh really.... interesting. What do you guys like for stations?
  23. 5 days on a train. Sounds good! (the good part courtesy of Simcity 4 DE)

  24. How Do You Start Your Cities?

When you place your infrastructure, do you simply place them all the way long? or do you put some planning into it, like placing a suburb here, or creating a TOD, etc. And, what's the limit for debt in SC4? I see. That's actually an interesting way to start off a whole region. I think I might have to try that some time LOL. When you start a city, do you build a central transit hub or do you just start zoning right away?
  25. How Do You Start Your Cities?

Western Canada? Haha, quite the way to start off. I'm actually heading over to western canada in 11 days on the train.
