  1. Hmm interesting. So a little micro-management is necessary. Thanks for your help
  2. Could you be a little bit more specific? I'm new to these districts things. I always find them confusing and have never used them . Thanks!
  3. Hi all! I always get stuck at creating a realistic skyline because there is no such thing as "medium density zone" as there used to be in Simcity 4, which makes it difficult to make a smooth transition from low density houses to apartment buildings :(. Would you mind giving me some advice on this? Thanks a bunch
  4. Oh thank you I think I know how to do it now
  5. Interesting! I'll try out all your suggestions. One more thing: along side medium or big roads or avenues would you place residential or commercial zone? In my country most buildings that show up along side big roads are either apartments or commercial building (or more precisely "home business"). These building are usually multi-storied and the first floors are used for business purpose, and the upper ones are for living purpose. You can only find buildings that are only used for living and not for business in narrow lanes called "alleys". Yep, welcome to Asia
  6. Hi all, Just a little stupid question I usually put all commercial venues in the few central block of the city, surrounded with residential area, but I'm thinking about changing it. Could you give me some suggestions on where to realisticly place commercial zones? Thanks!
  7. Industry in city

Okay thanks for all your reply I think I'll bride it with some C$
  8. Hi all, Could you give me some suggestions on how to bridge dirty industrial area with the rest of the city? When starting off I usually leave a huge space between the city and the industry and connect the 2 areas with road or avenue, but as the city grows, more lands are needed and as the city expands that huge space keeps making me feel uneasy, because I can't place anything near or around the industry because of the pollution. So how do you usually deal with that? Thank you!
  9. Wow thank you everyone That's plenty of new ideas. I'm thinking about building a downtown by the side of a river just like the Saigon downtown (and yes most people here still use the term "Saigon" when refering to it, it's a more familiar and friendly name for our southern capitalists haha). Oh and one more question: where would you situate your dirty industrial area? And afterwards how would you deal with the area around them, I mean we can't build residentials directly next to a polluting industrial quarter, right?
  10. Hey guys, I'm having some questions about creating a realistic downtown Since I live in an Asian country (Vietnam specifically), the laying of buildings and streets here are way different from those from the game, which is more common in Western communities, creating a realistic, Western-style downtown could be a bit difficult. So here it is, my dump questions 1) How do you zone the sky-scrapper's strip? I've seen many cities mixing up both office buildings and residential towers, but how do you do so? I mean do you zone a 4x4 residential next to another 4x4 commercial? Or a long strip of residential along side a commercial? 2) What surrounds downtown? I mean between the shiny buildings in downtown and the green low-density suburbs there must be something, right? What do you usually put there? 3) Would you put highways downtown? I've seen many people do so but that seems very unlikely, not to mention it would interrupt and divide the skyline strip. Thanks a lot for your answers
  11. It could possibly because you're running a multi-core processor, which Simcity 4 wasn't created to run on. I had a similar problem once, and letting only one core run the game solved the problem
  12. I'd been looking for them too when I first started Simcity 4 but failed You can try downloading the "Maxisland" region on Sc4ever.com. It's fully built but still can give you some pointers on creating a regional transport network
  13. I see. Guess I should consider redownloading NAM and adding more railways. I did have NAM installed many times before but in the end I always removed them cause it seemed that they make my game a bit lagger :| Anyway thanks a lot guys for your great answers
  14. Hey guys, Although I've been playing Simcity 4 for years, I still haven't succeeded in creating the transport network that really works. Most of my highways and avenues are barely used while low speed streets are always clogged with "local sims stewing". Furthermore, I prefer to have shops and offices located on busy roads with high traffic volume but when starting a new city it's nearly impossible for me to determine exactly which location is going to become a busy intersection or which road is gonna have high traffic volume. Could you give some advice? Thank you!
  15. I don't think that's a propaganda video. It was made by Rob Whitworth, a famous filmmaker, you can see his beautiful works here but of course I agree that this video does not fully represent the whole country ^^ Anyway I like way they built and planned out the streets and buildings. They were very neatly organized
