What models do you need made?

Linky. Yeah. Apparently, developer J. Paul Beitler, in conjunction with Cesar Pelli Associates, wants to build a $300 million television tower in Streeterville. It'll be like the CN tower, but 200 feet taller, with a small commercial block on the bottom. The rest of the height (2000 feet) will be useless., except for the Skydeck. Also, it bears a passing resemblance to Sauron's fortress in the Lord of the Rings movies. (farthest to the left)

I like mine quite a bit. We have quite a few cool ones in the NDEX lists, actually. Apart from those, I really like Compromise's.

I see two main problems with this: 1 - cable and satellite TV markets keep growing and broadcast is diminishing, in the suburban regions which this tower will serve (I can vouch for that - I live out here, no one uses broadcast); 2 - As Chicagoland keeps growing, as we know it will, what happens when this tower is invalidated, when it can no longer serve the Chicago metro? Then, it'll just be an observation platform. (and possibly a mooring post for dirigibles. They're gonna come back.... ) As for the LOTR - honestly, I've never read the books, save The Hobbit. I didn't mean it be insulting to the fans....

Sorry - I didn't mean anything against you. It's just that they aren't like roads I see around me. If they're like Australian roads, go ahead! We need more local realism mods in this game. But why don't you replace the regular road network? You could have the asphalt shoulders appear in rural/undeveloped areas, and the sidewalks appear in developed areas. That to me sounds like a better use for your textures, since the Sims/freight cannot go from a house or factory onto the ANT, due to technical limitations, and usually on such country roads, houses and farms must face onto them. EDIT: One advantage of using the ANT for bike paths is that, when you draw it next to a road, the RUL overrides can integrate the bike path into the road and free up one row of tiles.

Well, now that we have true diagonal streets and GLR in the form of puzzle-pieces, what is to be done with the ANT? I've seen someone's efforts to convert it into an odd-looking Australian road. Personally, I'd rather have bike paths as the ANT, to allow for true slope traversion and draggability, as well as the change-ability of textures at various wealth levels/zone types.

er... I play all of my music when playing. I just mute the game's music and run Winamp on shuffle in the background. Back before someone stole my IRiver mp3 player... I used to use a patch cable and play the IRiver through the PC's speakers, thereby saving a ton of memory. In general, I like rock, jazz, and flamenco music. There is some hiphop and country in my library, but just a few songs.

A long time ago, I tried to do this... We never did decode MAD. However, Builderman made a DLL plugin that allows SC4 to play AVI movies, so you could insert an AVI into a DAT, give it the proper IID, and then let it rip. I dunno if you want to start doing DLL modding with SimMars, though...

More odd-ness: I drink orange juice. Any time of the day, doesn't matter. It has to be iced, though - that's why I don't drink it on road trips. I eat the ice - it goes well with the pulp (another thing I love). The Strawberry-Banana OJ is good, too. I'm also a pretty habitual ice-eater with any beverage, so long as the ice comes from my ice machine. Those cubes are always nicely saturated with bubbles to make chewing easier. BTW - it doesn't hurt your teeth, it conditions them. I also love iced tea (unsweetened). Who can't like a drink with no sugar, negligible carbs/sodium, and TASTE? The lemon or lime does add some sugar, though. I have to second the Kyoto Station. It's quite a cool building. I'd also like to bring up the stations of Chicago. We have four downtown stations for heavy rail - Northwestern, Union, LaSalle Street, and Randolph Street. Northwestern used to be a quite beautiful Beaux-Arts building, but today, only the train shed remains, the station being replaced by the Citibank skyscraper. Old: New: Union Station is also a Beaux-Arts structure, but I think it looks ugly. More should've been done to tie in the office section on the top. LaSalle Street Station is quite modern, built out of red granite. It has the Chicago Stock Exchange skyscraper at its head. Randolph Street Station is completely underground, so it really doesn't have anything to look at.

I hope that the new buildings in New Orleans will be done properly, instead of on-the-cheap. We have a chance to define the architectural future of one of America's most famous (and larger) cities. Wouldn't it be nice to create new, quality buildings to replace those that are lost? Obviously, in this case, Louis Sullivan's doctrine of form follows function is applicable. But there's no reason we can't do both. What I'd like to see is a national architecture competition for a house design that is cheap, replicable, modifiable (we don't want rows of identical houses), and, of course, high-quality, to replace the houses lost to hurricane and flooding damage. To properly incentivize such a contest, there should be prizes, although not necessarily monetary ones. For instance - a full college scholarship in architecture, or perhaps an entry-level position into a leading firm, would garner many submissions.

Apparently, I often subvocalize things (i.e. move my lips w/o sound) after I finish saying something. I wasn't conscious of it until a few weeks ago, when a classmate pointed it out. Also, when I'm playing the viola, I tend to hum the piece of music I'm playing. Another unconscious action, brought to my attention by others (in this case, my ex-music teacher). My bedroom wallpaper is covered in hot-air balloons. I'm terrified of diving boards. It's not the diving itself really, since I can go off a starting-block just fine. I think it's just the wobbliness that freaks me. One of these days, I'll have to defeat my fear.... When possible, I skip the last step of a flight of stairs, by using my arms to lift myself onto the top level. Lastly, I have a tarsal coalition in my left foot. That means that two of the bones in my foot are connected where they shouldn't be. It's a birth defect, apparently. However, I'm trying to get an operation to remove it ASAP. I just hope they don't have to take a chisel to my bones....
