  1. Are there any maps yet of NYC that are accurate and to scale? I've seen several NYC maps on the workshop but most of them are not accurate or they are not properly scaled.
  2. Accurate NYC map to scale?

I noticed this when I made an NYC map. There's no water. How do I adjust the elevation on the picture?
  3. Accurate NYC map to scale?

WOW... can't believe something like this already exists. Thanks man!
  4. on Kickstarter, besides Civitas? I am looking forward to Civitas but I don't know if they can reach their stated funding goal: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1584821767/civitas-plan-develop-and-manage-the-city-of-your-d Are there any other city simulators indie groups have been developing have a good chance of being successful?
  5. SimCity BuildIt announced

I got SimCity 4 for iOS and I hated it (mostly because of the horrible touch controls and the lack of large maps). I am guessing that this port won't fair well either, especially since this time they're porting an already mediocre game. Seems like anything Maxis touches these days turns to dust. Just look at the disaster that's Sims 4. What happened to you Maxis? P.S.: Is it just me or do the cities in the screenshot look SMALLER than the ones in the PC version?
  6. So I finally caved in and bought this during the $6 Gamestop sale. The game is okay but I definitely see why people didn't like it. It's not so much the mechanics for me but how restricted the game feels compared to SC4. I don't even have to mention the city size issue but there are other things that bother me. Like I can't even decide where the highway coming into my city is going to be. Also it's annoying that you have no control over the regional transportation network. And I find it really dumb that the roads basically determine the density of your buildings. The simulation itself is nice for me so far (I haven't surpassed 10,000 sims yet) but I filled my city up within 2 hours of gameplay. I just wish it didn't feel so restricted. Anyways what are the purpose of avenues in the game besides relieving traffic? Do you need them to have the high wealth residential and commercial skyscrapers? Because I don't want to use the avenues if I don't have to due to the space limitation.
  7. Newbie to the game..

Awesome thanks. That should help with the space issue a bit.
  8. Project Orion - 3k Extended Boundary

Is it possible to place the cities next to eachother in this like in SC4 now? And is terraforming possible?
  9. Students Won't Commute

I was tempted to buy this game because of a recent sale and the offline mode. But it seems they haven't fixed bugs that were present at launch. I think I'll pass on this game then.
  10. http://www.amazon.com/SimCity-Cities-Tomorrow-Plus-Online/dp/B00GHTP4ZY/ I am wondering if it's worth it to get the game now that it's been a year since release. I normally wouldn't have even considered buying it even at this low price due to all the problems the game has had but since it's offline now I'm more tempted to get it (hopeful that modder fix a lot of the problems and introduce the requested features such as bigger cities). Have they fixed the major problems since launch such as Sims going to the wrong houses after work, Sims not going to other cities for work/school, illogical traffic simulation where the cars don't take the fastest route, cars not moving for emergency vehicles such as fire trucks, etc.?
  11. Wouldn't it be much easier to just place cities right next to eachother until a solution for city sizes is found? I would imagine that wouldn't be hardcoded into the .exe because each pair of cities obviously has a different amount of space in between them.
  12. Offline Mode Coming Soon

Sorry if this has already been answered but will the mods finally allow us to implement new buildings, textures, models, fix the traffic problems, terraform, increase map sizes, etc. for offline mode? Essentially the things that we were allowed to mod with SC4 (sans the map sizes of course)? I don't care about the multiplayer mode but if modders will be able to do all these things with the game then I will finally be tempted to buy the game. It's sad however if the game will be decent at last only when everyone has stopped playing it and it's been almost a year since release. Hopefully EA has learned their lesson and maybe the modding/offline features will bring more people back to the game. Who knows. Although I can't think of one instance where a game has rebounded after it has sunk low due to a horrible release.
  13. It is called Civitas and is being developed by a group of developers from Texas who have previously worked at gaming studious making AAA games such as Mortal Kombat and Borderlands 2. The game seems to allow more creativity than SimCity (more terraforming and zoning options), modding support, large cities, cities next to eachother, region play with natural resources, subways and other mass transit, no always online DRM, and even multiplayer. They seem very much against the direction EA has taken SimCity which is why I can empathize with them. The game basically looks like a 3D version of SimCity 4 with more stuff and depth. I am actually looking forward to this since I played the beta for SimCity 2013 and decided not to purchase the game because of all the features missing from the previous iterations. And with the launch issues the game has been having I am very glad I didn't pre-order it. Civitas seems to be the true successor to SimCity 4 people have been looking for. I don't know if they can reach their stated goal by the deadline but I did contribute $25 to them just in case they do. We can only hope. It looks like a really ambitious game. Because we can't link to the site (apparently because it's advertising) just search for "Civitas Kickstarter" in Google and it'll be the first link.
  14. State of SimCity: Offline Being Discussed; Bigger Maps Not Coming

This game is an insult to Will Wright and his legacy. No regard for the person playing the game whatsoever.
  15. I want to have whatever they're smoking. I can't say I was surprised though. I knew this game would turn into a DLC cash crab with a pay-to-win model ever since the persistent online connection was announced. What a shame that EA has once again ruined one of my most favorite franchises.
  16. The person who modded the game posted on the EA SimCity forum but his post has since been removed by the mods. He was able to enable debug mode so that highways/rail could be placed in and outside of the city boundaries. So the terrain outside of the city boundaries is indeed editable. He also allowed the game to be played offline indefinitely. Apparently the full debug mode allows terraforming but he wasn't able to access that. The funny thing is after he used debug mode to place highways in and outside of the city boundaries, the server saved the editing and the highways were still present when he reloaded the game. It's such a shame that the game has the tools for terraforming, highway/rail placement, and being able to play offline but they chose to instead impose limitations upon the player. So much potential here (disregarding the current glaring bugs with the glassbox engine). I'll quote the original post that was posted in the SimCity forums before it was removed.
  17. this game is already dead or close to dying: http://caas.raptr.com/most-played-games-march-2013/ I believe the same downward trend in regards to the number of people playing the game is being indicated by xfire as well. EA/Maxis really screwed up on this one. They took one of my favorite franchises and ran it into the ground because of their social and online connectivity bs. In all honesty though they deserve it for taking such a route for what has always been primarily a singleplayer experience. The funny thing is they have enough time to release a car charging station and toothpaste DLC but can't seem to fix the city rollback and traffic problems that are still plaguing this game more than a month after release. Hopefully some other dev comes along and makes the city building game that those of us who have been disappointed have been waiting for. In the meantime I predict that this game will be buried and laid to rest by the end of this year, if not sooner. Don't be surprised if they start reducing the number of servers either like they did with BF3 only 6 months after it was released.
  18. is there a database that lists the images of all of the buildings in vanilla SC4 deluxe along with the associated Maxis file name (i.e. 0x05210000)? I'm recreating NYC and I know that many of the Maxis buildings are based off of or are exact replicas of actual NYC buildings. The problem is even with the extra cheats plugin it's hard to see which building is associated with which filename (since the plugin doesn't list the building name but it's long filename), unless of course I go through each and every building in the cheats plugin menu. But that would take too much time. So is there any place that lists all of the buildings in the game (particuarly the NYC tileset) along with their associated file names? If something like this isn't available then is there at least a place that lists the filname (i.e. 0x05210000) with its associated in game name (i.e. Wren Insurance)?
  19. Yes, it would look something like this with only the Maxis buildings loaded (here a New York building as example): See the file browser on the upper right, here for high wealth commercial offices (selected on the upper left). You can easily browse through all files. Of course, this is also a lot editor, so you can do quite a few changes with this little program. Thanks! This is exactly what I was looking for. Will make my job much easier
  20. In terms of the Maxis buildings, I am mainly looking for all NYC tileset buildings (mostly commercial skyscrapers, residential towers, townhouses, and shops) that are inspired by or replicas of actual NYC buildings. So SC4 PIM will allow me to look at these buildings along with their file names?
  21. RMS Titanic (1912)

WOW... looks really nice. Is it to scale and can you U-drive it?
  22. NAM 31 Central Bug Tracker Thread

Yep that did the trick! My maxis highways/interchanges are back and the fences next to the El rail are gone. This new installer process is actually a much better way of installing/reinstalling NAM especially with the hundreds of individual components you might want to add/remove so please keep it for the future releases. Thanks guys!
  23. NAM 31 Central Bug Tracker Thread

Oh wow okay. That makes sense. I would like to actually restore the default Maxis elevated and ground highways. Do you know how to do that? Do I just run the NAM installer again and not check the overrides for the Maxis highways? I would also like to remove the ground level fences from the elevated rail.
  24. NAM 31 Central Bug Tracker Thread

Does anyone know how to restore the default Maxis ground highways and elevated highways that I overrided with RHW style highways during the custom installation? Cause after the override of the Maxis highways things like this started happening: Also I noticed that some interchanges like cloverleafs are missing. Will restoring the original Maxis elevated and ground highways solve that problem? Another completely unrelated thing, how do I remove the ground fences around the elevated rail that I installed by mistake? Thank you.
