Accurate NYC map to scale?
Charizard replied to Charizard's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
I noticed this when I made an NYC map. There's no water. How do I adjust the elevation on the picture? -
Accurate NYC map to scale?
Charizard replied to Charizard's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
WOW... can't believe something like this already exists. Thanks man! -
Are there any maps yet of NYC that are accurate and to scale? I've seen several NYC maps on the workshop but most of them are not accurate or they are not properly scaled.

I got SimCity 4 for iOS and I hated it (mostly because of the horrible touch controls and the lack of large maps). I am guessing that this port won't fair well either, especially since this time they're porting an already mediocre game. Seems like anything Maxis touches these days turns to dust. Just look at the disaster that's Sims 4. What happened to you Maxis? P.S.: Is it just me or do the cities in the screenshot look SMALLER than the ones in the PC version?

Awesome thanks. That should help with the space issue a bit.

So I finally caved in and bought this during the $6 Gamestop sale. The game is okay but I definitely see why people didn't like it. It's not so much the mechanics for me but how restricted the game feels compared to SC4. I don't even have to mention the city size issue but there are other things that bother me. Like I can't even decide where the highway coming into my city is going to be. Also it's annoying that you have no control over the regional transportation network. And I find it really dumb that the roads basically determine the density of your buildings. The simulation itself is nice for me so far (I haven't surpassed 10,000 sims yet) but I filled my city up within 2 hours of gameplay. I just wish it didn't feel so restricted. Anyways what are the purpose of avenues in the game besides relieving traffic? Do you need them to have the high wealth residential and commercial skyscrapers? Because I don't want to use the avenues if I don't have to due to the space limitation.

I was tempted to buy this game because of a recent sale and the offline mode. But it seems they haven't fixed bugs that were present at launch. I think I'll pass on this game then.

This game plus the expansion is $30 on Amazon...

http://www.amazon.com/SimCity-Cities-Tomorrow-Plus-Online/dp/B00GHTP4ZY/ I am wondering if it's worth it to get the game now that it's been a year since release. I normally wouldn't have even considered buying it even at this low price due to all the problems the game has had but since it's offline now I'm more tempted to get it (hopeful that modder fix a lot of the problems and introduce the requested features such as bigger cities). Have they fixed the major problems since launch such as Sims going to the wrong houses after work, Sims not going to other cities for work/school, illogical traffic simulation where the cars don't take the fastest route, cars not moving for emergency vehicles such as fire trucks, etc.? -
So now that the offline patch is live, are you modders making bigger maps?
Charizard replied to nafeasonto's topic in SimCity (2013) Modding - Open Discussion
Wouldn't it be much easier to just place cities right next to eachother until a solution for city sizes is found? I would imagine that wouldn't be hardcoded into the .exe because each pair of cities obviously has a different amount of space in between them. -
Offline Mode Coming Soon
Charizard replied to hellmunkey's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Sorry if this has already been answered but will the mods finally allow us to implement new buildings, textures, models, fix the traffic problems, terraform, increase map sizes, etc. for offline mode? Essentially the things that we were allowed to mod with SC4 (sans the map sizes of course)? I don't care about the multiplayer mode but if modders will be able to do all these things with the game then I will finally be tempted to buy the game. It's sad however if the game will be decent at last only when everyone has stopped playing it and it's been almost a year since release. Hopefully EA has learned their lesson and maybe the modding/offline features will bring more people back to the game. Who knows. Although I can't think of one instance where a game has rebounded after it has sunk low due to a horrible release. -
State of SimCity: Offline Being Discussed; Bigger Maps Not Coming
Charizard commented on SilentMage's article in News
This game is an insult to Will Wright and his legacy. No regard for the person playing the game whatsoever. -
I want to have whatever they're smoking. I can't say I was surprised though. I knew this game would turn into a DLC cash crab with a pay-to-win model ever since the persistent online connection was announced. What a shame that EA has once again ruined one of my most favorite franchises.

So... a little bit more than a month after release...
Charizard posted a topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
this game is already dead or close to dying: http://caas.raptr.com/most-played-games-march-2013/ I believe the same downward trend in regards to the number of people playing the game is being indicated by xfire as well. EA/Maxis really screwed up on this one. They took one of my favorite franchises and ran it into the ground because of their social and online connectivity bs. In all honesty though they deserve it for taking such a route for what has always been primarily a singleplayer experience. The funny thing is they have enough time to release a car charging station and toothpaste DLC but can't seem to fix the city rollback and traffic problems that are still plaguing this game more than a month after release. Hopefully some other dev comes along and makes the city building game that those of us who have been disappointed have been waiting for. In the meantime I predict that this game will be buried and laid to rest by the end of this year, if not sooner. Don't be surprised if they start reducing the number of servers either like they did with BF3 only 6 months after it was released.
