  1. SimCity Tutorial: Road Density

I would very much prefer to decide the density by zoning! A scyscraper can be on a rather small road but have great comuting by bus or tram or rail.
  2. Too Many crashes to handle.

    You need a blank between the " and - Like this: "C:\program files\Maxis\SimCity 4.exe" -CPUCount:1
  3. Too Many crashes to handle.

That image helps alot. Your CPU does have multiple cores, in fact it has four. That is what the quad means. Would you be willing to do an experiment? I promise, you wont break anything. If you know how, make a new SimCity shortcut on your desktop. Right click it and choose properties. In the shortcut tab there is a line called target. It probably looks something like this: "D:\Games\SimCity 4 Deluxe\SimCity 4.exe" Just add -CPUCount:1 to the line so it will look like this: "D:\Games\SimCity 4 Deluxe\SimCity 4.exe" -CPUCount:1 Don´t change anything else. Click OK and start the game using this new shortcut. Hopefully your game will not crash anymore.
  4. Commercial Over-growth

I think you are zoning way too much. Try to limit the comercial zoning to a small part and then the demand will soon push up those scyscrapers (if the population is high enough). Think of how a real city is like. A centralized core with good transportation.
  5. How about you try and place some libraries and museums. Atleast i think they serve as "education" for the older populace.
  6. Can't find it?... Ask here!

I am playing a region with only the largest city tiles. Some of my cities are developed to the point where no new farms will grow. I still have huge swatches of land that would be ideal for farming. I remember vaguely that i saw "somewhere" a mod/building for raising farm "desirability" Running CAM if that has any significance. Thanks in advance for any help
  7. Operating Systems Poll

Windows 7 64 Bits Intel i7 920 6 GB Memory AMD/Ati 5870 Runs like clockwork, although a bit overkill for this game
  8. Show us Your Interchanges!

A long time since i posted anything in this thread. I spend way too much time on Civ5 and Fallout NV Click images for full resolution 1680x1050 A SPUI with integrated tram-in-avenue A simple but usefull Diamond/Dumbell in rural setting using FLUPS A compact sunken Diamond. (Also showing a sunken railstation and a tram overpass) A folded diamon using RHW2. (I dont see many using the RHW2) A detail shot of a "Bowtie" interchange The entire "Bowtie" interchange and a parclo (with surrounding suburbs)
  9. Show us your Railroads!

My small contribution to this thread. Click images for full resolution 1680x1050 A sunken railstation and a tram line. Rail and tram system in a new harbour industry area. Rail detail shot. Railstation and tram detail.
  10. Show us your Tram Systems!

My small contribution to this thread. Click images for full resolution 1680x1050 Tram going over water taking comuters to the industry area. And here is where they end up.
  11. Garbage Modd

If you have water in your map you could try the PEG CDK Garbage Docks. www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm (https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=17245)
  12. Show us Your Interchanges!

Just popped in to show 2 new trumpets I made. (Click images for full resolution 1680x1050) Details Zoomed out Details Zoomed out, different angle.
  13. Show us Your Interchanges!

Thanks for comments. Based on those i made some improvements. (Click images to see full resolution 1680x1050) I changed the dumbell to a FLUPS-Diamond to increase the weaving zone a bit (Thx asteconn) I also changed the overpass to eliminate weaving altogether. (Thx McDuell) Finally a new overview of the setup. Ohh, and McDuell a monster is the least you could call that spaghetti jumble How long did it take you to plan that out? I also like your windmill/stack.
  14. Show us Your Interchanges!

Hi everyone. Great contributions all. (Way too many to compliment them individually ) I haven´t posted for ages but now with the new NAM & RHW i decided to start a new region. My playstyle may differ from yours but I like to at least lay the arterial networks before I start to build. I hate to tear down buildings just to increase traffic flow, not very realistic, but hey it´s a game. (Click images to see full resolution 1680x1050) First image shows a Bridgehead and a dumbell intersection using the new FLUPS under RHW. Next one is a large interchange between two RHW 4 (I don´t know if this one got a name) It was inspired by a post by twinsfan14 : www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm Next up is a close up of the new fancy road markings. Last image shows an overview of the area. (Yes I am planning a large harbour/industry on one side of the bridge) Finally a great big THANK YOU to the people working on the NAM & RHW for making this game even better. And as always comments, suggestions, criticism is welcome. Edit : I just noticed I got a Trixie ! Thanks everyone who voted for me. I searched but could not find who nominated me.
  15. Show us Your Interchanges!

@ jim 546 Defunct is a real word. But it means "not functioning" as far as i can tell. dictionary.reference.com/browse/defunct And my MIS lanes(parallel to highway) are working, even the sims use it as i intended. Those coming from the west going north and those coming from east going south are using them. It keeps the roundabout from clogging up too much. @ sir_knight Interesting is just the word A very innovative use of the "highway over roundabout" piece. (edit:spelling)
  16. Show us Your Interchanges!

Thanks for the "brilliant", but i mostly copy what i see others do, or from real life I will try to explain with some very bad paint example. The extra MIS lane is to minimize congestion in the roundabout. Bonus is if someone regrets the exit, they can continue eastwards/westwards. What do you mean by defunct junctions ??
  17. Show us Your Interchanges!

Just a quick one I´d like to show. A parclo A4 with avenue roundabouts. (Click image for full resolution)
  18. Show us Your Interchanges!

Interesting interchange solution, and one that you can easily convert to a trumpet design. A trumpet would only take a bit more space on either the north or south side while freeing up a large area on the opposite side. I especially like the "double diamond" (for lack of a better word), a design a have never seen before. In fact I think I will copy it and use it in one of my cities Great work , keep it up ! (Yes you are rigth about the lights, perhaps removing half of them ?)
  19. STEX CDs and Donations

I donated 17/9 and recieved my two discs today 5/10. (I live in Sweden, EU) Thanx for the great timing, I´m free from work tomorrow
  20. Show us your Downtown!

Very nice downtowns everyone. My contribution is rather small, population wise, comparing to much posted here but anyway... Everyting is grown except the football (soccer) stadium. I was really happy to finally grow the Turning Torso building. (From my home city) (Click image for full resolution 1680x1050) Comments, suggestions alway apreciated.
  21. Show us your Seaport!

Very nice ports everyone. Here is my little contribution... (Click images for full resolution 1680x1050) Daytime Night time Comments/suggestions always welcome
  22. SimCity 4 in Wide Screen Mode

It´s not the filename you should change. Right-click the file and choose properties, then insert the commands in the target box.
  23. Show us Your Interchanges!

@ patricius Love the paperclip. How about adding some sliplanes to the stacked roundaboud thus avoiding the roundabout ? More preciesly, west to south and south to east, you have the space as I can see.
  24. Horrendous Traffic Crashes

Sounds like you have some severe traffic problems. The crashes are the games way to tell you that you have a problem. Check the traffic overlay to see where the most congestion is and perhaps change the roads to oneways or change the traffic simulator to something that can handle more.
  25. Show us Your Interchanges!

Hey, me again ! Soulchaser, iGod, Mr_Maison : Thanks ! ROFLyoshi : Always glad to inspire people. Besides the "rural" has been stricken from the RHW, it now means what you want it to be, eg. "realistic" froelich131 : Why don´t you post some anyway, i´m sure the people here can give you good pointers. Chickenonabun : Thanks ! Personally i´m really pleased with it too (Um, image too small ??) bgsimplayer94 : Nice and complex, although a bit too much light poles. io_bg : Nice one. Resembles mine a lot, although i use a bridge instead of tunnels. asteconn : Very nice works. I love those roundabout interchanges, we have a lot of those here in Sweden too. Also very nice tutorials on you-tube. Attila464 : Looking forward to that turbine. It´s the only type of interchange I haven´t built. IsaacTham : Nice work, but as asteconn said, a bit too "square". Try to use diagonals more. Anyway, here is a new batch. A new city situated between two fairly lage cities. I plan to develop the whole area into a large port/industrial site. And before you ask, no I didn´t use any traffic generators. (Click images for full resolution 1680x1050) A half raised diamond Other side of the water just before leaving the city. Its not an interchange but couldn´t resist showing it. Please forgive me Here is a classical trumpet. Overview showing both trumpet and diamond. Question : Should I lower the area inside the trumpet and place industrial there (tunnel access) or just use beautification? As usual, comments, suggestions, improvements always appreciated.
