Great building! Although I doubt that there are palm trees in Boston, I also doubt you'd fit any of the other available trees in that spot without them being cut off by the building, so I see it as a fair trade. You're not really going to notice it in a dense downtown area anyhow. A definite 10, especially given how far you've come in such a short time!

But in terms of raw ability, you're absolutely capable. good luck i can't wait to see what you do.quote> The other thing really missing is a proper horse racing track. I'm amazed nobody's done one as the actual BATting would be minimal. You'd only need fences to define the track, a few props to define the start and finish, perhaps a few central features and a grandstand (which could be made simple). It'd require a master lotter, though.

It is good that somebody's finally at least *considering* a cricket stadium. A suggestion though: You're going to need more detail in the field markings (see the attachment to get a rough idea (Ignore the soccer goals and markings, I didn't even know they used the field for soccer as well).

Originally posted by: Wilfried Webber Suburbs can be pretty annoying. I'm currently living in an older type of European suburb (in Szczecin, Poland) which was begun around 90 years ago and mostly extended in the 1930s (the city was German until 1945) and then later from the 1970s on again until now. The suburb is situated in the south-west of the city and surrounded by avenues (dual carriageways) on the east and north. This should be enough, actually. It has a rather classic street network structure (mostly like a grid, though not exactly, I call this therefore "semi-gridded") and a rather low population density. Most houses are single-family homes, with some being two-family or row houses. However, a small part of it is medium-density with six-storey housing blocks. There is also a light industrial (actually, I wouldn't even call it industrial - it's rather dirty commercial services ) area on the inside of the suburb (!) and a huge shopping mall on the other side of the northern avenue (This is, however, NOT the reason for the traffic problems I'm going to describe!). We've got some small shop or office here and there in almost every street. This might be uncommon in the US and many other suburbs in the world but in Poland there is almost no suburb where you couldn't walk for shopping (So being forced to drive to a mall in order to buy the most basic things is also NOT the reason for traffic problems, as this problem doesn't really exist over here.). And nevertheless, you get stuck in traffic when trying to leave this suburb during the morning rush hour because any connection to the outside (i.e.the surrounding avenues) has a far to low capacity. One lane is just not enough. Oh yes... You might think there's no mass transit... Of course, there is! There are four bus lines and one tram line, and they're pretty busy, too! THE REAL POINT IS that there's exactly ONE intersection which everyone, both drivers and mass transit users, have to get through. There is no way round this intersection. They are now converting it to a roundabout which will surely make things better. However, the actual problem [of being forced to get through it] will remain untouched. Now, THAT'S what I call a bad planning. They had so much time to find a solution to this problem, or to build an additional road so there would be at least a second way out of the suburb. They didn't. The missing road becomes even more obvious if you know that once you got out of the suburb, there is almost no congestion. I almost never have to wait long at stoplights or roundabouts on my 6.9 km (4.3 miles) long way downtown...quote> Sydney's bad. Very bad. The rail system is in shambles, the road network is hopeless. American style city + European style road network + inadequate PT for european network = horror of all horrors. The Cross City Tunnel (and associated road changes) didn't help things, in fact, they turned Sydney's CBD into a gridlocked place. Oh, did I mention the confusing start and sudden stop of bus lanes, the confusing 12-lane motorway with centre exits and an insane number of one way roads? Oh, well I did now. It's not as bad as NY, but it's shocking given that we have just 4.4 million people living here! Now, the worst planning disaster in Australia would be the Gold Coast. No freeways within the city (the only one BYPASSES it, and it's home to HALF A MILLION PEOPLE), bugger all Public Transport, and most of the development's in a narrow strip. Traffic there is almost as bad as it is here... and we have 4 million more people!!!

I really really love the model. I'd like to see the colour of the corner building changed though; SimCity's not very sympathetic towards that particular colour... It'd be interesting to see you come back to this one. I will be using it, however. It does however earn an 8/10 from me. Again, the only thing REALLY letting it down is the colour of that corner building (perhaps desaturate the colour?)

Modding the region view transportation map
cammo2003 replied to jefe's topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
Subways cannot be displayed, I believe. However, if you do stumble across that same page, I'll be happy to take a look at the file and see if it actually does so or just claims to. I would be most glad to work out *that* particular secret... -

BTW, the forums seem to have swallowed the SC4Mapper link. It doesn't work. -

Real Highway (RHW) - Development and Support

I'm likeing those textures, SA - they'd actually be good shoe-ins for the many "quasi-motorways" found here in Sydney (In particular it's quite reminiscent of parts of Alfords Point Road which is only a few suburbs from here). It'd also make a great rural arterial - medians are often nonexistant in such areas, and primary access to properties in such areas is often off secondary roads branching from said arterial roads. I love how narrow it makes the footpaths on-lot look, too.- 3,919 Replies

I don't know what it is, but the trees feel the wrong colour, they look a bit too strongly coloured. Perhaps desaturate the texture? BTW, it's not the kind of thing that's going to stop me downloading it, just one of those things I 'feel'. As for the building itself, stunning as per usual!

I think that was 2, lol.

SC4Terraformer, a tool for regional handterraforming

Yeah, that is quite a good map you've got there, glenni. Nice, varied terrain. That reminds me, I need to redownload Region Census... -
Ok, first off, a few things that might help you out: - A Google Map showing an example of a suburban-rural transition. - The GIMP: If you don't have this, get it. MUCH better than MS paint - it's probably the most powerful free paint program out there. Great work on this so far, I'm really liking the way this is coming along, you use custom content quite well. Keep it up! Be aware also that suburban-rural transitions can be VERY abrupt - as in the subdivision ends and instantly it's rural. But I figured I'd show you an example anyhow of how it happens here in Sydney. BTW, the sketch of the bridge reminds me a bit of Sydney, lol. There are actually public parks underneath both ends of the Bridge, and you've captured the look of that well.

K4404 BATS- (curr. Harbor Center B.C. and Modular Ski Project)

Using the power lines isn't a bad idea I have to admit. Unfortunately I can't shed any light as to how it's done, either. You'd also be stuck with 4 cables, but I guess you could find a work-around. I'm sure there's a way to make the power lines look like supports for a lift vehicle, but still looking like power cables too (using power cables has a second advantage - you could establish the base stations as power plants and use them to power the snow villages. I've always felt that the monorail system would make a good stand-in for a situation like this - and it wouldn't look out of place. You'd just need to change what the game sees as the 'deck height', and create new stations. This is definitely possible as it's how the GLR works. You wouldn't be able to use it with the HSRP, but with the new fast curves on standard rail (included in the latest NAM), I suspect more people will be modifying the railway speeds and just using them as HSR (which is what I do - I use the heavy rail as HSR and freight, subway, GLR and el-rail for suburban rail (occasionally using the NDEX sub-rail transition to convert over to rail for short sections) and I don't really use the monorail. Under-track monorails DO exist (I believe they're used in Japan a bit) and simply suspending the monorail underneath makes it look a lot more realistic in a snow environment. You'd need to modify the track model, but that's definitely possible. Just a few ideas -
I don't know what it is, but something about the base doesn't sit right with me. That said, the roof is very very well BATted by the looks of it. I'm not downloading it for reasons of personal taste, but it does show that you have a lot of potential if you work at it. And at least you remembered to include roofjunk :p

We're a small market for them, so they'd likely not really bother with localisation since the primarly language here is English anyway.
