Hello guys! (Sort of a re-introduction)

Actually, I re-sign up here in Simtropolis, because I want to revisit my hobby in creating SimCity custom contents, just like my old times when a Simtropolis dated back on 2008 or 2012(I think?).

Also, I'm a former modder of SimMars Mod, in Automata modding team.

I'm still playing SimCity4, and the new SimCity (2013). I'm also exploring Cities:Skylines as well.

So yeah, it's good to be back here in Simtropolis!  :D

I am just getting back into SimCity after being away for a few years.  I started with the Original SimCity and went to SimCity 2000, SimCity 3000, SimCity 4, Rush Hour.  I then got married and had a family, new computers and all.  I tried Cities XL at one point, was not overly impressed, just did not have the time.  Recently downloaded Cities: Skylines, I like it but miss SimCity 4.  My 9 year old son like Cities: Skylines also, but finds it very complex.  I decided to try to load SimCity 4.  Ran into the disk issue, decided to download a copy from GOG.com.  It is up and running now.

I had saves all my directories, Regions and Plugins folders.  I am wondering how I go about putting these into the new install of SC4?  I tried just dumping the folder contents into the new directories but that does not seem to work.

The GOG.com install is currently unpatched and nothing extra installed or loaded.  I removed the files I had dumped into the directories.  I am sure that back in the day I would have remembered how to do this, I think I did it switching computers before.  It has probably been 12 years or more.

Please let me know what I need to do to get SC4 up an running to todays standards and how to load my old region if possible.  There is a lot of time and effort in the old  region!

I was a member on this site years ago I think, could not remember what the login might have been.  I have the old STEX Collector's Edition CD Vol. 1 and STEX Collector's Edition DVD Vol. 2.

I want to be able to show my son what I had made and to introduce him to the City Building Game that everyone has tried to improve upon.

Cities: Skylines is Great!  Enjoying learning that also, I want Good Old SC4 to compare it to!

Thanks for any help offered!

Look in your My Documents folder. In there you should have a new SimCity 4 folder. And in that there should be a Plugins folder and a Regions folder. From your backup, copy your region(s) folders into the new Regions folder and the contents of your old Plugins into the new Plugins.

There'll be some highly recommended things that are user created patches for game bugs, but those can come once you've seen your old cities.

Hi @BigW13 and welcome to Simtropolis! *:8)

It sounds great how you've decided to return to city building after a while away.

In terms of getting your old SC4 cities and Plugins running, as @CorinaMarie said it'll be very doable.

It's a smart choice you've made is to pick up the GOG version since this is already fully patched and ready to go.

Something worth mentioning is how with the Galaxy client they'll keep saying how it's the recommended choice. This might be more desirable for other games, but for SC4 this isn't required and might possibly change the standard location of where plugins and regions should go. See my post here for steps on downloading SC4 standalone. There was someone who reported it worked for them doing this a few months ago which was good news.

The standard folder path for Plugins is:

C:\Users\<UserName>\Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins

Then for Regions (with subfolders for each) go inside:

C:\Users\<UserName>\Documents\SimCity 4\Regions

Do keep posting whenever you've any additional questions, and I'm sure you'll soon be able to get SC4 running as you'd like. There is a lot of info for getting started and also getting back started. Also we can move your question into a new topic also so that way anyone else with tips can reply as well.

In the meantime for further reading, you may find these resources useful:

Then specifically for custom content:

Hope this helps too! *:)

I didn't think I had to install any patches from what I was reading.  I went to the game install folder to put the plugins and regions into.  I will look for it in the my documents folder.  Thanks for the help CorinaMarie!  Any other pointers you or anyone else have would be welcomed!

Thanks @Cyclone Boom for more great information!  I did the standalone install of the GOG file, didn't want their launcher.  I have some reading, and playing to do!

Thanks!

Good morning everyone.

I've recently started playing on SimCity4 again after all these years due to the 'Rona lockdown. Just after some mods to improve the game, can't believe I haven't been on here before! Maybe you'll see me in the forums. :}

Hi everybody !!

I am Jaradard, a 36 year old Frenchman, married, a child.

With the "coronavirus" global containment, I brought out my old games to pass the time. I found my old Final Fantasy 7 8 9 10 and .... SimCity 4.

I am delighted to see a very present community and I can't wait to see these new buildings coming out of the ground.

Sorry for my English, and thanks Google translation.

Hi @Bickles Cab

&

Hi @Jaradard

Welcome to Simtropolis! *:thumb:

With all that's going on in the real world right now, it sure is a relief how ST is still a place to share a common interest in city building during these troubled times. I think it helps with being a creative hobby, which means each of us as mayors define our own individual goals. Hope you both enjoy the site and community here.

Ciao Giovanni and welcome to Simtropolis! *:8)

For anything related to city building you've sure come to the right place. Even though SC13 might not be as actively discussed as it was for a while, there's still a few posters who check in the SimCity (2013) Forums nowadays. Some members like @Ralph Curtis play online too if you're looking for a shared region game.

Glad you like the site!

Hey, everyone!

I live in TX and I'm excited to be here! As a child, I obsessed over the original SIM games (I had a compilation pack for Windows Millenium that included Sim Farm and SimCity originals, that I've been unable to find online!), and graduated to the RCT trilogy! About a year ago, I picked up Cities: Skylines for PS4, and fell in love with simulation building all over again! I have every DLC for CS, but still find myself wanting to mod! So I downloaded RCT 3 Platinum (Steam) and modded the heck out of it! *:D Thanks to this community, I've got SimCity 4 (Steam) + NAM installed and working on my MacBook Air (Mid-2013) Mojave! Super excited to explore this game more, as I've never played, and being in this community!

Thank you to everyone who has contributed, I'm excited to get more into modding this game!

Hi @clmcities and welcome to Simtropolis! *:)

It's great to have you here too, and hope you enjoy the site. I remember playing Roller Coaster Tycoon back in the day too, and had some good memories there also alongside SC4 (which remains my focus still to this day). Glad to hear you've had success with the Mac version, and to have a modding interest too will open up fascinating possibilities. Since I started to get into modding SC4 and I've found it ends up being a whole new world to explore as well as with city building itself.

Hi @Shyaway and welcome to Simtropolis! *:8)

Looks very nice indeed for your city scene as you posted above, featuring a well built CBD with the CN Tower as the centrepiece. If you'd like to, feel free to post more pictures inside the SC4 Showcase forum in any of the various topics there.
