This thread is intended for asking questions to receive short and simple solutions. *:read:

It is meant to be a place where it's easy to reply and quick to receive answers, instead of opening a new topic each time. For example, to ask about keyboard shortcuts, how to use a cheat command, or game versions like between a patched and unpatched game. Maybe even a post someone made for a gameplay tip.

That said, we very much encourage members to open a new topic for asking anything which might lead to a discussion, or a sequence of replies on the same subject. That way it allows people to find topics when searching for particular questions.

So if you're here and that applies, please consider opening a new:

Another quick question here. Have someone ever experienced an issue with gmax where a portion of the viewport seems to freeze on the screen like in the pics? I've been using Gmax for months now and never experienced this problem, until last week. The area also persist over other programs as you can see. I've tried to switch beetween different drivers also, but with no results. The only workaround i was able to find is changing the screen resolution and then going back to the previous one. This seems to "erase" the glitchy areas, but they just come back in a few minutes and it's getting a bit annoying. Any idea of what the problem is?66ec03fa14b52_Screenshot2024-09-19125739a.jpg.89277603e6d36dba8d484e91430240b0.jpg66ec03fcf3a72_Screenshot2024-09-191245021b.jpg.2a208fc929f0ee82f3dc8cafff7f34f5.jpg

Hi guys! *:) I have a new quick doubt. What means and how works this parameters of clinics and hospital? *:???:

  • Hospital Effectiveness vs. Average Age (normaly 0,8,100,0)
  • Hospital HQ boost (normaly 11,5200046)

Thanks! *:thumb:

What I'm remember from SC4D Wiki and the reader, the first property means how much the impact of a health facility to the local residents according to their age. I guess it's in the grouping of 0-15, 16-45, 46-80, 81-100 (edit: nope, it's a curve duh). Correct me if I'm wrong. So that kind of hospital is more effective to seniors than to children, roughly speaking. (Again edit: the hospital is more effective at babies and less effective when you're 100)

The second property means how much the health facility contribute to the health point in the covered area. I think it's correlated to life expectancy since HQ isn't shown in the game, except in a vague description in My Sims when you get the info of your Sims and obviously the data view. And yes, 11.5 is the value used by all Maxis health facilities.

My guess is the first property defines a curve that linearly interpolates between the points (x1,y1)=(0 years, 8%) and (x2,y2)=(100 years, 0%).

I think you are correct, Ingred,.ini documents that property as using the GeneralResponseCurveEditor and GeneralResponseCurveFormatter. This appears to correspond to the cSC4ResponseCurve class in the Mac binaries.

Speaking of GeneralResponsiveCurve, I also saw in the ingred that it's originally called HappinessCurveFormatter in the Aliases section. Maybe, the sole purpose was to correlate with happiness (mayor rating, I guess?) instead of everything that we have now.

The description of HappinessCurveFormatter appears to imply that it a SC3K leftover, which was replaced by the GeneralResponseCurve in SC4.

This is deprecated in SimCity 4. Use GeneralResponseCurve instead.

The model file (which you need for any kind of third party custom contents) can be found the BSC Common Dependencies Version 9B (that's the latest version) in the BSC MEGA Props YDR Vol01 prop pack. This was added to this Version 9B, so previous versions don't contain this prop pack. See Change Log on the download page. The full upload will come in the following months, probably sooner than later, but that will only contain the LOT file(s) as the model file now is stored in the Common Dependencies.

Hi all,

Does anyone know if there is a way (/trick) to save a city to change the way it looks in the region view?

In the picture of my test region some city tiles look softer and others look sharper. I prefer the cities looking "softer" (ex. the main city). This has been driving me crazy for years.

I'm not sure, but have you tried to save the cities from different zoom levels? The game renders each level separately, so it might have something to do with that...

Rendering issues are generally down to compatibility issues, bear in mind this is an ancient program. Normally you should not use Hardware Renderer for gMax, rather switch to the HEIDI Software renderer, that should help.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, i already tried to switch to HEIDI Software, but this seems to not work for me as the problem persist.

I had a similar problem. You might check that it's in compatibility mode with XP Service pack 2.

The whole idea behind software rendering is to use your CPU to handle the work, rather than your GPU. Since it shouldn’t require any special compatibility to work this way. But that’s not 100% guaranteed, there could be some problem with your system in this regard.

But it could be that there is a simpler option, since I believe the DirectX renderer used by gMax is version 9. That probably won’t work by itself, but if you setup a DX Wrapper with gMax, it should be able to provide compatibility to make it work on a modern system.

Hi All,

After 12 years (:golly:) I recently removed PEG's SPAM mod from my plugins folder. A great mod, but I was missing the IMO wonderful Maxis vanilla farm fields.

Since then, farm fields only grow very rarely when zoning. Several farm lots will grow without the field (see picture below), eating up all the agricultural demand. I've created some custom agricultural lots, but they worked with SPAM

Has anyone encountered this before? I'm deleting so many of these lots waiting for a field to grow! :???:

Hey, does anyone know why messing with terrain in mountainous areas seems to make it so you can't use god mode seed forests to actually plant trees? Seems like it just plops down little bushes in the mountainous terrain. Does anyone know a workaround? I mean I can of course plot trees from MMP section, but I worry this is going to impact my fps in this city tile.

What specifically will plant is based on both elevation and moisture and a part of the moisture is based on the slope iirc.

There's a really cool article about how that all works with info about making changes. I even understood it long ago and made several modifications for exactly what you are experiencing. What I don't recall is if I attached any to some posts. I'm thinking I prolly did so we'll have to holler for CB and ask if he'll dive into the dank dark deep depths of the database and poke around looking for them.

Are you trying to make new farms grow on an already developed city? You might be experiencing a hard growth cap, specifically, the one that causes cities with more than 40,000 sims to have no farm desirability whatsoever.

Unfortunately I'm experiencing this every time I zone agricultural - even in a new city tile in a fresh new region :???: it's helpful to know that agricultural lots being built without fields is likely a growth cap issue. Could removing SPAM (but having CAM) be messing with the growth cap?

Or try my mod, Cap Lifter. Sorry to interject my sponsor in my comment.

Hope it helps. Another culprit could be the tax on I-R tho if you experience it even in the start, it's indeed a bigger problem.

I was also going to suggest this as I use it all the time. (I use only the I-R one for Agricultural as it fixes broken Maxis code IMO.)
