Because the system works better here.  Average open highway speed limit nowadays is 70mph in most states, (think Cali is still 65, Nevada is 80 and a couple or three at 75), up from 65 from about the turn of the century and up from 55 before that, which nearly no-one followed except all the goody-two-shoes out there.  Why change something that's working just fine? is probably why we don't go metric.

Oh,  it is in miles per hour, 55 mph are like 89 kmh (That's a little bit slow in my country, but here, speed limits are more like a sugestion than a restriction). For some reason in the US they still use the imperial system, and most of their signage is in imperial units (miles, mph,  etc.), specifying only when using metric units, like this one:

@blade2k5 Yes, most of the highways in the US has an average speed of 70-80 mph, I decided to go on 55 mph due to a song ( I Can't drive 55 by Sammy Hagar). Also I agree, if it's working fine, why change it?

Talking about other things, I have finished the first auto-ramp that @redfox85 requested:

gQzPqoK.png

This is the ramp to access to the first level or the autorack floor level. I'll make the rest within the next hour or so. What do you think?

I was going to mention that, listen to it every once in awhile.  We used to joke when asked how long it took us drive from LA to SF, our answer would be something like 'we made it on only 4 speeding tickets' back in the day when the national speed limit went down to 55 four decades ago.  Hardly anyone drove that slow, especially Sammy.  What a long, boring drive that is too.

I know in Illinois semis are only allowed to do 55, as far as anywhere else in the states, I'm not sure.  I know here in Wisconsin it's 70 for all vehicles, including semis, but most semis keep it at 65 to conserve fuel for their long trips.  I used to work for a trucking company ( I detailed cleaned the trucks, inside and out) here in Tomahawk and cost the owner 16k a month for fuel so he was very insistent that his drivers go no faster than 65.

@blade2k5 Thanks, this info will be useful in the future when making some road signs.

@redfox85 Oh, I think I forgot about them when making the autoracks. It will be a nice addon if I ever update the freight trains prop pack.

If you're really interested in the variations in speed limits across the US, this article is a good read:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_limits_in_the_United_States_by_jurisdiction.

According the the article, the current fastest posted speed limit in the US is 85 MPH on a section of toll road in Texas.  Currently, 9 states have separate Truck speed limits on the books.  Some states have differing speed limits based on load (i.e. hazardous  vs. non-hazardous cargo.

Night-time speed limits are very common on rural roads where visibility is often restricted by terrain, and/or vegetation, and along wildlife migration corridors.  Bombing down some back-country road at 65 or 70 MPH at night (or any time for that matter) and encountering something as large as a moose (adult males weigh up to 1,500 lbs or more) in the middle of the road doesn't usually end well for the vehicle or its driver.

Sir your work is amazing. It would be amazing if you can make those creations as MMPs also. Regarding the car ramps and autoracks. I had no ideea that there are covered ones :O

Also south of my city i've found an abandoned ramp to unload cars from trains. Interesting thing is that is fixed.

It may have been used with train cars that have a movable ramp. I don't know much about trains, but current train cars for car transport seem to be rather static (it would make sense because adding a ramp to each and every train car would result in redundancy and cost increase), but then again the ramp in your photo seems to be rather old, too.

Ah yes, the Austin/San Antonio super toll.   That road is amazing.

Glad you can spend some time with us! I love the guardrails and the orange bumpers! Maybe even a version with more bumpers, like 6-10 at once is common.

For the Curve signs, I feel like I usually see that set up with all of the signs parallel to each other for each direction. It's difficult to explain. Basically half of the signs would point one direction and the other half the other way, with each half only being visible from one side. Does that make sense?

I like them - especially given we can make some rather tight bends in SC4

They're just like the ones in this picture - so we only need one set regardless of Left or Right side driving.

    Signs.png.a71dd863ddb7e2344c1ee8393e93477e.png

    - the signs are visible from both directions - two arrows to a pole each facing the other way.

I think I know what you mean, at first I had them like that, but then I figured that only half of them would be visible in a curve, so I went with this other configuration.

@rivit Yeah, pretty thight curves, and thank you for the pic.

Yeah, I built them thinking about that. I'm a little bit of a lazy so I didn't wanted to do left and right versions.

I decided to expand my train props with more cars, and this time I wanted to experiment with articulated cars, begining with the Gunderson MAXI-IV 53 ft 3-unit well car, with TTX and BNSF liveries as shown on the pic below:

    5d538277a1d10_53articulated.png.8d88e69b00287f5eb03f11d87820e358.png

These will come as a single unit rendered orthogonally, with each individual unit (A,C,B) rendered in all configurations. The next articulated car will be the  53' All-Purpose Spine Car and probably the 57'-Twin 28' spine car, I don't know yet. Also, I've been working on some 20', 40' and 53' containers but that's a topic for another post.

The next part of this post focuses on locomotives, which will be the mayority of the prop pack update. Up to this moment I've only finished the SD70ACe with BNSF, CN, CSX, FXE, KCS, KCSM, NS, and UP liveries. Also, the SD40-2 its on the way.

    What do you think?

You'll need to make a cargo ship soon with all those intermodal parts :) (... and maybe some 20 foot containers) They look really really great.

Might do it sometime, I think there's a lot that can be done about intermodal equipment, also I already have a lot of 20' containers, I will post them in the following days.

But now, these are fresh from the oven: the 5-unit 53 ft Spine Car.

    MDJErb8.png

This is what they look with some dryvans:

    HvKEBdx.png

but it's just a preview, I haven't export them to the game, they still need a little bit of work. I think this is the longest prop I've made.
