What type of movies you hate the most?

Pfff... Well that's a hard question. It depends on my mood, but I really hate romantic-comedies, pure comedies, and most of the parodies (Sceary Movie and associates, but I like some of the Police Academy movies, the first Naked Gun, the Spaceballs, Hot Shots!), most of the SAW and HOSTEL-type trash horrors, but I like some of the 13th of Friday, the Scream movie series (not the TV show(s)), some of the Halloween movies. And the musicals are also not my cup of tea...

The rest is independent on genre or style...

More than hating movies, I hate myself when watching movies: I have an unstoppable instinct to criticise everything, to find all details badly done, poorly researched, etc. I blame my philosophy professors for this

Anything named something like "Superman vs. Ironman 7: The Return", "Green Lantern IV: Origins", "DC Patrol of Whatever 23", "Spiderman 37 (now on a black suit!)", "Batman Rebooted Already Like 7 Times" and so on and so forth... Seriously, is anybody keeping the count on how many Spiderman movies have been released already?

If it contains "-man", "DC Comics" or "Marvel", I ain't going. Time to put the brain back to work, Hollywood!

On my remote control TV channels are well organized. There are the main channels on the first three buttons, then come the culutural channels and then the documentary channels and then the sports channels and starting with button 18 there come  the local channels.

One may think it finishes here ... but starting with button 25 there come the obscure channels doing movies like 'the beast from the swamp' , 'excesses in the womans prison', 'attack of the horror bees' or something like this.

There was no need to safe these channels on my remote control - my programs could have stopped with button 25. But with the evening getting later I climb up the numbers on my remote control an I arrive there with ease, above button 25, in the dark zone of my remote control, pretty often.

To me, watching sensless movies is something very relaxing. Like a proof  - you don't need to search a profound sense everywhere and therefore - to get a sense out of sensless movies - to deconstruct them so at least you get review - like some 'sense-juice' you squeezed with all your power from a 'sensless fruit.'

What a waste of time. Jean Paul Sartre wrote book more than 800 pages about nothing - the being and the nothingness.

Nonsense. There are things you must enjoy on the raw level of animality. There is no thinking in it.

These movies aren't made to prove you to be intelligent. It's totally sufficient if you sit in front of the TV, grunting from time to time and to rase your hand and deliver your mouth some peanuts. This is all what those films ask. Like the nothingness. It never asked for Jean Paul Sartre to write a book about.

A german writer, Hans Magnus Enzensberger, once said TV is the 'Buddhistic Machine`. It's not made to make you think, but to get rid of all thinking, to get into the flow, to loose selfconsciousness and drift away into a totally empty world where dinosaurs eat black haired women while blondes always survive and where aliens suck moonstones and when the moonstone is finished they go for human blood.

Media is to make you empty - the buddhistic machine - not to fill you up with thoughts.

And that's all I have to say about this topic. As to understand the meaning of life - the worst movies are the best.

Superhero movies tend to contain most of my pet peeves.

I really don't like movies where the characters are always giving unfunny one liners during moments which should be serious from their perspective, and I don't like so much sarcasm. I feel like comic books contain the types of characters that socially stunted fedora wearing neckbeard comic fans think are cool. 

I also don't like bloated movies that are full of "stuff" happening, but where little truly happens. 

And I don't like movies with plot holes, or where the character's motivations and feelings are inconsistent and follow the pacing of the story, rather than something reasonable for the characters. Like when two people are fighting and ready to kill each other but then 20 minutes in character time they act as if nothing happened, because to the audience's attention span is too short to remember what the characters were just doing. 

And I don't like constantly reusing the same handful of IPs for everything. I'd love it if more movies were made that were original and well written. Or if you're going to do another superhero reboot skip the origin story and move onto a more interesting new story. Everyone knows who batman is, everyone knows who superman is, we don't need to see their origin stories for the millionth time. 

 

I do watch the superhero movies on like netflix and stuff though because they're good for when you need an entertaining movie that a group of people will find agreeable and which doesn't require paying attention it's a good choice. But they do set off my pet peeves and I think very few of them are actually good movies.

Haven't you realized by now Hollywood has no brains?  They're all airheads who run around all day saying "look at me!  Look at me!.  I'm special."  Right, you're special all right, a special kind of stupid.

Asian horror movies, I can't even sleep as I remember the face of the goals yet I still watch those type of films.

Bad remakes/sequels of great classics.   Bladerunner 2049.  I have to give credit at least to the actors for doing their best work at whatever union wage scale, but everything about this movie screams lack of any artistic vision or effort.   The original Bladerunner is an actual piece of artwork.  I suppose as with most things these days people aren't understanding that money can't buy or trade anything of real value.  It takes real work by real people to create value.  Obviously nobody involved in the making of this movie bothered to read the book by Philip K Dick, "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" and don't even have basic education in the literary or visual arts.  

EDIT:  Maybe I should have posted a specific review rather than here.   After reading a bit of the reviews and opinions, if this movie is considered a good work of sci-fi drama in its own right then maybe use a reference to the original but define it as a unique and different vision by name. The sequel to Space Odyssey is a good movie (not great), but it flopped because it was named Space Odyssey, yet considered by many as the greatest masterpiece of sci-fi. Nobody can paint a picture and call it 'Mona Lisa: The Sequel'.  They could try, but it won't fly.

So-called horror films that are not horrific in any way shape or form, like nearly all the horror films of the past 35 years.  They all turn out to be comedic at best.

I didn't think it was possible to hate a movie so much.  I now understand that there are entirely appropriate experiences to say 'I hate'.   Without disrespect, contempt, or any animosity, I can honestly say I hate the Stars Wars: Last Jedi movie.  It is an utter and complete piece of garbage  fantasy.   Its a total nightmare of motion picture art for the sake of financial profit.  It represents the true height of demise of all virtue of art for the love of money.  It is truly and purely a product of evil.   I'm going to call the United Nations and claim a crime against humanity for the 2 hours that were stolen from me, and for the horrific abuse of my human dignity and conscience being exposed to such vile abuse of the presence of my body and mind.  So in other words I hate all movies made like this, money is god and art is worthless.

EDIT:

I woke up some space alien theorists, so I adjusted my terms.  Scientific realism it is not.   There is no dark side of the force really, matter of fact its all dark.

I hate any kind of movie that promises something and doesnt deliver. Keep your promises realistic or put some effort in it, you movie makers! Damn it! Aint paying 10+ euros for special effects galore and jump scares.

In my opinion, a movie doesnt need to be complex, full of special effects, or philosofic thought (like Fantozzi said). It just needs to entertain. But let's not mistake entertainment with brainwash. Feed the masses with the same repetitive pill that promises immediate satisfaction and it will become what people aspire and likes. Human psyche is amazing. It is also very stupid. 

Oh and I hate romcoms, false horror, scifi that are just special effects, something vs something, prequels, reboots,

 

Wow. Simpler to do a "what do you like" than a "what do you hate" don't you think?

On the "what do you hate" side it does generate more analysis than what would be on the "what do you like" side.  Rambling on about our issues is not as much fun as simply enjoying some entertainment.  The expectation of something like the first Star Wars movie is that really nobody would reasonably disagree that its great entertainment and that they enjoyed it.   I think what I'm complaining about is that artists aren't striving for that level anymore.   How about "What was the last movie you saw that seemingly everybody agrees was an enjoyable or interesting or any kind of positive experience?"

Maybe its time to rename the place or move it permanently elsewhere.  Lots of people here and there call this place Hollywood North.  

So I asked myself the same question and it is really hard, especially I think for anyone who has consumed entertainment products to the point they know all the tricks of the trade, seen all the dramatic scenarios, scary monsters and funny clowns many times and can imagine a variety of possibilities before the show even begins.

IT, the original TV version I remember, but not in much detail.  'It's blamed for having an overly traumatizing effect.   In cultures where people are not used to being audience to intense entertainment arts, I suppose the impacts can be and are more seriously considered.

It seems to me 'The Martian' was the last one I got the sense that everybody liked.  It was a personal trip to Mars by a guy who was generally likeable and satisfied the basics of dramatic arts of establishing a sympathetic empathy.  We all wanted buddy to make it safe back home to Earth and we were not disappointed. 

Coming back to the Last Jedi, I didn't like the actors, they seemed smug, not very personable.  They were too obviously 'acting'.   In this case I think the lack of establishment of sympathetic empathy just made it a boring movie, full of flashy lights and noise, cheesy jokes, but not much character development.

Lately they do much documentaries about Vladimir Putin in german TV. Means: a half naked man riding on a horse through the wilderness.

Inconographicly those type of movies are called WESTERN, aren't they?

Think - of all those documentaries I watched in the last years - 90 percent I learned nothing usable, they deal witch exotic facts just for amusement.

There is a world of facts that's almost equal to fiction.

The grotesque, bizarre, strange facts. Documentaries love to deal with them.

Some people think documentaries open your mind.

For what exactly? For the grotesque side notes of history you can talk about on parties when you are drunk? Or in Simtropolis social forums? What else it is good for to know how Putin spents his spare time?

Even documentaries manage to be light years away from my real life.

Good point about documentaries there, @Fantozzi. I mean, I don't even watch regular TV, but sometimes it's enough to read the titles in the TV magazine and wonder "Didn't this start out as a science show? Then why is today's issue about the spiciest fast food in city XYZ?"

As for movies, romcoms are really something I cannot enjoy. I've been dragged into some, and I've never managed to feel anything that was not between boredom, indifference, and cringe.

Those superhero movies... I dunno, I haven't watched many. Who knows, some of them may actually be good "popcorn cinema": sit down, switch off brain, enjoy the colourful pictures. However, the sheer omnipresence of ridiculous figures in spandex suits and external underwear gets royally on my nerves these days. All of them with super powers, pitted against super villains, dressed in super silly costumes... yawn.

I guess there's not much I really hate with a passion, but there's just not much that appeals to me, either. The movie as a whole has never quite been my cup of tea. There are some that I really like, there are many I can watch and semi-enjoy when I'm there anyway, but I don't feel like I'm missing out much when I'm not there to see them, and not really passionate about them. I think I have bought about 2-3 movie DVDs in my life.

I guess that's why I cannot muster actual hate for any genre. There are some individual movies that I think are total crap, but I haven't yet recognised a pattern that would make me say "boy, I hate this genre with a passion".
