Question:

I donated some time ago, (long enough it's not in my PayPal history anymore) and received Vol 3, 4 and 5. I stopped playing SC4 some time agao, but recently built an entirely new PC and wanted to get back into SC4. My new build does not have a DVD/BR drive. I do have another PC with a drive in it, and tried to work with that one to get the files onto a thumb drive, but it appears STEX04 is not readable. Is there a way to get a new copy of the disc or a download version of it?

I note that it appears it's still only Vol 3, 4 and 5 available so it wouldn't be giving something I have not already donated for.  Someone must have records of the donations? I can PM the appropriate information of my address and the PayPal account the donation would have come from.

Hi! The STEX discs download page states that there is exclusive content on those discs. Does a list exist of exclusive content that is on STEX Volums 3, 4, and 5? Thank you so much!

This is a very good question that I have no idea of. Vol 4 is the only one of the three that has any reference to 'bonus content', but it seems like all of those items are on the STEX already. It's possible they're just mixed in with all the regular content, so without a line by line audit, I don't know any other way to tell. The only other thing I could think of is that phrasing is left over from the previous volumes, as from what I can see, Vol 2 does appear to have some exclusive content. Sorry I couldn't get a more definitive answer.

Edit: on second thought, I'm not sure if Vol 2 has exclusive content or it's just now unavailable since SC4D died ... the 'Extras & Bonus files' are mostly BSC/CSX items, and I would be surprised if those teams made STEX-exclusive content.

Would it help to have a dir /s file listing of all 5 STEX Discs? That's about all I can think of to offer. Ofc, the .zip file names aren't always the same as the Description name.

In early chats with Dirk (when I became an admin) it turned out the only copies he had of 1 & 2 were on a borked hard drive. He tried the freezer trick at my suggestion, but that didn't help for its problem. We then just assumed they were indeed lost. However, a couple or three years later in some staff discussion, it turned out some peeps had them, made ISOs, and sent them to CB and me.  

We've then wondered what we could or should do with them? They are very out of date and we'd hate for them to cause problems in the community. OTOH, we've considered maybe Dirk would want to list them as options on the Donations Page. (Remember, the donations are because peeps want ST to stay alive. Any disc now isn't really worth the electrons they are made of from a convenience standpoint, but are the nice free gift still sent for certain dollar thresholds.)

Anyhow, while working on the files list, I discovered an error on the first one and subsequently fixed it. That was the last I did until you reminded me I was looking into this to see if I could determine what might be bonus stuff (as in exclusive to the discs).

So, all that to say: Yes, we do have the full contents of Disc one. It was "CD" size.

Yeah, I don't see any reason not to. And I'll attach it as a file right here in public in case anyone else would want it. Do you want just a raw dir /s ? or add /b ? or /oen ? or such? Another thing I wondered is if we could parse out the file description names from the folder with all the .htm files? Like some fancy for in do or PowerShell script?

IMO I would not put them on the donations page. I would be in support of hosting them somewhere else (perhaps this thread?) and providing them for free. If they are on the donations page I would feel some sort of obligation to provide support for them, and I'm not inclined to do that for items that old. Though, even vol 3-5 is aging too, but that's a different story entirely lol.

A while ago I found this neat little tool called Snap2HTML which can generate a nice HTML view of a file structure. See what you think of it. I've included volumes 2 through 5 here.

Hi @nos.17

I just tested this too with a .html file, and it also didn't work. But then I tried a .zip and it was fine. I'm thinking this is something related to the site security which is blocking plain .html files being uploaded for some reason. I'll have to look into it when I've more time.

Maybe try wrapping it inside a zip file and see if that works?

By the way, how do you want the directory listing of the 5 discs Cori is going make? Just plain dir /s or any other switches she asked about?

Hi, all! It's so nice to hear back from everyone! I had a busy day today. Thank you so much for all the messages and feedback throughout the day.

I found STEX Volume 1 and 2 on a public torrent site that must be now shuttered. Years ago, I think in 2019, Cori posted checksums of at least, Disc 2...and the checksum of what I downloaded did not match the checksum that Cori provided.

It might be irregular, and perhaps somewhat unethical, but I would be happy to provide the ISOs that I have for Disc 1 and Disc 2 if they would be desired.

We appreciate the offer since it falls in line with restoring lost content (when it's truly lost). In this case we already have both Disc 1 & 2 from a reliable source (rather than a risky torrent site).

I've checked all three of these and I can access them to the point of opening the .zip files, viewing the images, and opening the ReadMe's. The only thing I did not do was run the included .exe installer files.

Sounds like maybe your copy has a bit of corruption? Are you accessing them thru the Autoplay Start HTML or directly in File Explorer? Or have you copied out the ISO contents to some place which makes the path to the file names exceed the Windoze limit?

It was released as part of the Gas cooker industrials on SC4Evermore. Before that it was also a content of the LEX DVD.

CityNut 's RPK stuff has either been released already or will be released later.

The Simtropolis Broadcast Center became SC4Devotion Broadcast Center amid the break up between Colyn/BSC and Simtropolis. Basically it's a new model on the same lot with the same model ID IIRC.

The rest of the CSX contents will be rehosted eventually.

The Euro Estates might not be rehosted as it requires PIM-X'ing all the lots. But it is entirely possible that some part of that was already on Devotion and or on the LEX disc.

At the least, I was able to confirm all three do extract properly for me. So perhaps there's something else going on like Corina mentioned.

Oops, my mistake. What I said is that they are not accessible on the Simtropolis. I don't have any STEX disks.

Tiberius, was this SG Gasometer props anything required by the Vienna gasometer ? Still mis some props with this version !Some time ago remember there where some re-release but that did 't work !

We have indeed considered it, but it's a massive undertaking and real life tends to get in the way.
