Working on a forestry-themed map, here is the greyscale so everyone can work on the map. It's open to public. Also, share the work you've done with it.

Oh! Good news for people who were wondering if I was going to let my content for Cities Skylines off the road or not.

The HTNEP(Highway Network Enhancement Project) and GTNEP (Global Transportation Network Enhancement Project) are b a c k ! YES! BACK! :D

What is to become the downtown waterfront:

This looks fantastic.

Just one critique: That parking lot in the foreground would most likely have access from that main avenue, I would think anyway.

You are absolutely right!

Added a access road from the main avenue,

Keep the constructive criticism coming! :)

Looks good, one of the better parking lots I've seen. I have a bit of a fixation with parking lots. Of all the things to be interested in, why parking lots? I have no idea.

BTW, what is that office across the street with what looks like a band of graffiti around it?

Loving the sight of subway trains crossing the Manhattan and Williamsburg bridges in New York I decided I wanted something similar in my city in Cities Skylines. So using the Commodore Barry Bridge, the MOM metro tracks and the vanilla two-way highway I made my own metrobridge. I am quite happy with the result, although I think I have to move the road and the tracks about 0,5 metres to the right to fit the bridge better. I will connect this line to the rest of the elevated network in my city in the future, but as of now, there is too much uninhabited land between the two networks.

Hello all!

I introduce you

Friend suggested me this: https://www.google.cz/maps/@33.888835,-118.2190985,173m/data=!3m1!1e3

It is Alameda corridor in Los Angeles (more info here)

So I started and have first sample.

12m bellow ground is rail, on both sides are quays to prevent terrain being buggy. On left quay is another rail.

This is very good work. I've looked at this same thing myself as inspiration for my city. You've done an excellent job making it look right. How did you do it?

Just getting started on a lower income area of a new town, any critiques would be appreciated! I'm sure theres a lot lol

(Click for full size)

You can kind of see what I'm going for in the last image, I just need to do foliage and start really setting the areas "low income" feel, those dirt roads in the back will be trailer parks.

Lately, I've been working on a new city on the Riverdale map. You can see the layout of the city below:

cDdGE2h.png

I've been focusing on tourism in this city. This led to some major problems. Mainly because of the traffic from the airport. I only had the small airport (on the right side of the map). There was a train line to the station which as a result dealt with a lot of passengers. Traffic jams at my train station were massive. Thus I've decided to change the road from a 4 lane narrow road to a road for pedestrians and bikes only in order to make public transport more attractive.

v2yGi3m.png

However, this still didn't solve my problems. There were also a lot of tourists traveling to the city by train. I wanted to divide traffic flow from trains as well. As my city grew I've opened a new train station at the other city of my park. This train station also has six metro platforms and is closer to the other side of the map, making it a more attractive destination for tourists from that direction.

LoUyeTp.png

However, this still didn't fix the problem entirely. In order to fix the problem, I've decided to build a new international airport on the other side of the map.

Dp2odsQ.png

Like you can see above I've built a monorail at this station. This monorail could handle a lot of trains since it has four tracks and is connected to a hub just outside of the city. From there you can choose from two rail lines and a metro line. This divided the traffic flow more evenly resulting in fewer traffic jams.

However, from here the challenges in my city just started. When I started this city I've only placed roads with a narrow width, keeping my options very limited. I've already upgraded all my roads to 4-lane but at a certain moment that didn't help anymore, companies didn't have enough goods to sell and some buildings got abandoned. In order to fix this, I've focused on cycling. I've turned on the cycling policy and I've upgraded a lot of roads to roads with bicycle lanes. Furthermore, I've built elevated bicycle paths for longer distances like you can see below:

VRU2oR6.png

Furthermore, I've upgraded the busiest roads to 4 lane one way. This made it easier to handle a lot of traffic.

9tqLj0d.png

However, this was still insufficient. By upgrading all these roads I've been neglecting bicycles a little bit. In order to compensate for that I've started a project with bridges on top of these roads. This way the same space could be used by a lot of cars and cyclists as well.

UddII5H.png

This project is combined with the upgrading roads to pedestrian/cycle roads. This results in less complicated intersections, resulting in a better traffic flow. Furthermore, you force the traffic to go through selected roads, making it an easier problem to handle.

NfOQ4sB.png

Pedestrian roads like above could be found in my entire Downtown area.

Other measures that are included in this comprehensive policy have to do with public transport. I've always focused on metro as a solution for traffic jams. It is rather cheap to build and if implemented right could make you quite some money. I've increased the number of lines from five to eight, also covering the busiest roads in the city. Furthermore, I've extended two metro lines in order to serve a larger area by metro. This works pretty well. During the day four out of eight metro lines are running at full capacity and still, that is not enough. So I constantly have to think about new ways to solve problems, I've already put in quite some measures, but I know one thing for sure, this project isn't over yet.

Thank you! Place track in -12m, place quys on both sides. Then place roads and finally pillars. In this case it were narrow pillars.

Must have mod:

Fine road anarchy

Move it

Quay anarchy

Prop anarchy (to place walls to protect tracks on top - u can elevate them to whatever height)

Is that Flinders St Station? It's a very nice building.

Yeah, exactly. That's the one. It's a very nice building. I also like the fact that it looks like a terminus but still has tunnel entrances, that gives it some more options than a terminus station.

Hello all, a bit of an update to the land reclamation district that I was working on.

It's a bit of a hodge-podge of me messing about with ideas, bridges, tunnels and intersections (and I do think the central 'island' is a little too square), but I'd appreciate any thoughts.

20170624101015_1.thumb.jpg.82a69558f72ffe28c299022ed5154c38.jpg

A couple of designs for retaining walls using Ronyx69's pillars and breakwaters and Tim the Terrible's triple pillars:

20170624101108_1.thumb.jpg.e13d8ef3f65b7d28ae29c50e8c685020.jpg20170624101129_1.thumb.jpg.36065972f14aad9df81ea85b0dfc2652.jpg

This design around this tunnel happened by accident as I tried to hide the gouge of terrain it carved out, what with being so close to the river quays. :s

20170624101211_1.thumb.jpg.7780fcdc04d2e8a3e971e15b678b93be.jpg

Working on a sort of 'FDR' style double decker road along the river. The intersection before the tunnel split still needs a bit of tweaking with 'Move It'.

Looks great! I really like the detail and effort you've put in the designs of your bridges and quays. That gives it a nice urban feel, if you have some more buildings around it that would look great in your city

I have some suggestions though, first of all, I would replace the high voltage power line through the river by the Actually Underground Power Cables, these electric lots could transfer power without the actual pylons. Which adds some realism. You could also look at some substations to add some more realism where you end the normal power line, I don't really have some preferences, there are quite a lot in the workshop and most of them are quite detailed.

At last, you could also look at the Y-Pillar, I don't know if you've already downloaded that one but I really wanted to mention that one because it looks awesome haha. I know that one looks great with the bridge in your last picture but I don't really have suggestions where it would look better. In general, your choice for pillars is quite good, it is also a matter of taste in my opinion.

Thanks very much for the feedback!

I totally agree with everything you've said. I'll download the underground power cables and tidy everything up a bit that way. It is, unfortunately, the way it is because I find immense fun in just experimenting with different things right now, rather than just sprawling out the city into the distance - any city that is there was largely put in just to check that the roads worked the way I need them to!

And I have got the Y-Pillar, I'm sure I'll be using that for the expressway that's going to straddle the two elevated rail lines that sneak off the right side of the first photo and reach over to the main city area. Yep, yet another bridge!

Quiet-ish weekend so had the opportunity to spend some time re-building the city I really didn't like above (going back to an early save with just the basics laid out). I'm much happier with how this is turning out and glad I went back and changed it.

It looks like a good start. If I could, I have two suggestions.

1: the LUT is a little harsh and drab. You might go with one that's a little more clear and more color-balanced. Just a suggestion.

2: The interchange on the left is nicely designed and smooth, but the curve the highway takes leading to the bridge is a little sharp. There's quite a bit of room to the right of the interchange. Maybe you pull it all to the right to lengthen it, drawing the curve out and lessening the sharpness of the angle. The general design of the interchange could stay completely the same, it would just be stretched and more angled. Again, just a suggestion.

Good luck on the rebooted build.

I'm a little bit in love with the intersection in the north-west of your city... Those sweeping, shapely curves...

Thanks for the comments. I agree about the LUT. It does look a little better in game but still feels quite "Brownfield".

I also agree about the turn onto the bridge. All the intersections are from the Workshop as I have no ability at doing them myself. I give them a little tweak once they are placed to fit them into whats around them a little more, but not much. This is within my skill level though to take it back further and have a much bigger sweeping curve.

Not quite sure what to build next to the port above what will be a tunnel entrance/exit. Thinking a very low density high wealth area and a few small beach side shops or maybe a links golf course? The cove in the top right is pencilled in for beach bars and hotels etc.

Taking a break from Chelsea and started up a new map - going for a more "planned" approach with this one. Using the Black Woods map, because it has some interesting features. Still a lot of detailing to think about - but this is the progress of my new harbour/farm/town of Kelowna:

I am currently working on a fictional  and modern  "new" capital of a European monarchy. It is built of a flat map (flatland 2.5 on workshop) and it occupy 16 squares on a river. 20170701234107_1.thumb.jpg.d69e4e9195d457799979cdd86ce14e3c.jpg
