Well then, if some time frees up (that'll be around after November), I'll give it a shot and see how it goes ;)

As a human and as a content creator myself (albeit on a much more humble level!), I think there are a few things that should be a priority for the team members:

  1. Their real lives with families, partners, friends, making a living...
  2. Whatever they enjoy to make because BATting is a hobby and not an obligation

And if there is time to BAT and whatever outcome is something that we like, we can consider ourselves very lucky. I'd agree with you if we were talking about a paid developer team, but we're talking about a few wonderful guys who choose to make stuff and share it with us for free. :)

BATers are humans?

Manhattan is really changing, particularly in the more wealthy areas. All of the small book stores, cafe's, pubs, etc are going out of business. Soon every block will have a Starbucks, Citibank, Dunkin Donuts, and McDonalds.

I believe if the hipsters take over, You will get your small buisnesses back. It is actually the small buisnesses that are giving life to places like williamsburg, greenpoint, etc.

Yes, please use the official BAT Request thread. :) It's for all BATs, whether they are from NY and potentially relevant for the NYBT or not.

they never respond and when they do its always "I think they already have it" :lost:

Well, no wonder. When you create stuff, you usually have more than enough ideas, you know what's interesting for you, and there are only three problems: Lack of time, lack of time, and lack of time.

It's a "snowball in hell" event when one of the creative persons here sits at home and thinks "gosh, I have plenty of time on my hands, but I don't have any ideas - I should really read other peoples' ideas and do stuff that would be nice for them to have, even if it doesn't necessarily interest me that much". Should you witness such an event, mark the day in your calendar.

When you know that a project may take days, weeks, even months to finish - would you rather spend your limited free time doing what you find interestint, or would you spend your time working for someone else's wishes? I think the answer is pretty obvious.

Since many people apparently don't realise this, they still request stuff. And these requests end up clogging the forums to a point where the actual BAT threads get buried under "can you make this?" and "can anybody make that?". That's why we had to consolidate requests into a separate thread. Please use it, just like everybody else.

The odds that anyone will fulfil your request are still pretty slim, but that doesn't change just by ignoring the request thread and posting where you want.

You have a better chance of getting a wish fulfilled if you follow a BAT artist's thread, contribute useful feedback, get a feeling for the kind of buildings that this BATter is into, and suggest a building that fits the bill. Once again, this is common sense: Would you rather fulfil the request of someone you don't even know by doing something that's not really up your alley? Or would you rather fulfil the request of a person you have come to know a little and who has turned out to provide helpful input by doing something that's in line with what you like?

Sorry if that should sound somewhat harsh to you - I don't mean to attack you in the slightest way. I just want to tell it how it is, and try my best to explain why. I realise that this is probably a very disillusioning post for you, but unfortunately that's the way things are sometimes. ;)

I've decided to merge a few threads (Suggestion Box, NYC - New Buildings and Construction, World Trade Center NYC) into one and make a place for NYBT members and other Members to talk about whatever they want related to NYC and NYBT.

This thread will serve as general off-topic discussion forum. If a certain thread is not in the NYBT forums, and you don't feel like it deserves it's own thread but you feel like you wanna talk about it, this is the place for that.

Definitively one of the most impressive buildings going up in the NYC at the moment.

What an interesting building. It`s surely not one of the ugliest new buildings but it kinda doesn`t fit in very well. But as someone here already said, NYC is changing so fast i wonder how it didn`t get any speeding tickets.

I guess if i wouldn`t now that the above picture wasn`t from NYC i would have guessed many cities, but not Manhattan.

It seems like my rendition of NYC is a "little" behind. They still didn`t start the construction at all:

Aaron: Yeah, a reason more to finish Helena or maybe even venture into the Pyramid lol it is residential after all... 21st Century Aaron CIty :P

Hotwheeler: Well we tend to forget that NYC is not any city. It is the world city and has been rapidly changing for decades now. With that said there are periods when it changes faster and when it all slows down a notch. But even when it changes at slower paces it's still super fast compared to the other cities around the world.

I must disagree however. I think it is sort of a precedent, but than again I think NYC lacks a bit of innovation in it's new development.  I am waiting for a day PoMo and International style finally being a thing of a past in the new construction.

But with that said I want to share another project I find very tasteful. It's 400 South Park Ave which recently topped out. I like the general shape of the building but more than that I like its scale which fits in nicely with surroundings:

and elevation to illustrate the size that I talked about:

And now that we're into elevations, I found this nice elevation map of Park Ave:

2 World Trade Center redesigned

One of the most recognizable and beloved buildings at WTC site has been redesigned and judging by the comments on public forums, people are outraged.

These are the images of the site with original design:

And redesigned:

In addition, latest renders show that 3 WTC has lost its spires.

OMG WHAT IS THAT!? KILL IT WITH FIRE.

But on a more serious note, that thing is a fugly eyesore. And I don't say that often with most buildings. I liked the previous plan they had for 2WTC

Oh man, this is just sad.Besides the Armadillo Sceleton used as the WTC Subway Hub i always adored the Design for the new WTC complex. But this stacked Box is so out of context...doesn't really fit in there.A better place would be the new Domino Sugar Plant Project or just drown it into tje ocean..

Posted it in the "Building many people didn't even know they were existing"-thread before I've read it here. To be honest though, I think people are overreacting (plus I usually don't like Norman Foster, but this time he did justice to this one)

To be honest, Foster's design looks like a ship ventilation funnel or subway ventilation building divided into 4 kites. The new design looks okay when viewed far away. The stack design is too funny. Fortunately, the design of WTC 1 is quite good.

Overreacting? Me? Nah!

But honestly, liked the Building with it's 4 cut of tops.It reminds me of a cool STEX Bat where the Building has similar cut off tops and the cutted surfaces where enlighted with a green line at night...sorry for Of Topic :D

I liked the old design, really not happy with this one. It would be fine as part of the Hudson Yards but it just looks too chunky and not elegant enough for the site. I work downtown and I actually like 1 WTC, I fear this won't fit in.

Nah. Foster f* up on this one. That kind of stacked design is alright for smaller building, but not for a skyscraper of that size, and certainly not next to 1WTC.

Original design was good, both towers mixed together really well in NY skyline. The new one just makes a too big different between the towers. It feels too rough.

I pretty much agree on everyone else, the building look a little to out of place for this area - it kinda just makes the lower manhattan skyline look awkward. Put it in Hudson Yard sure, but even that might be pushing it, because I actually like how some of the plans for Hudson Yard are going. I just feel the general look of the building is something someone came up with in like 10 seconds, with no real thought in the design at all. If anything, it's a real disappointing design in comparison to the original. Toddler's have been 'designing' this kind of thing for generations :P

Why was the original even scrapped in the first place?

The original designs was scrapped because Fox News is going to be the main tenant for the building and the smaller floorplate of the tower and the sloped roof didn't work for them so they scrapped the Foster design and hired BIG to redesign the tower to fit their needs.

This is what happens when capitalistic news channels influence architecture. It ends up in a mess and a mix between useful working space and an architectural clutter.

I'm personally not satisfied with the new design. Just as I wasn't with the first on at first. If they wanted something useful, though, they'd better moved their offices to the pre 9/11 towers....

Actually, the top of the original design looks pretty much like the Windows logo.
