You must always use the installer remembering to delete the Network Addon Mod folder when you need to change the selected settings

No crashes, no problems, so far so good. The only thing that bothers me a little is that even if there is no other mod in the plugins folder, and even if I open a small and empty tile, the game takes a lot more time to load than before. But as Twilight Sparkle would said, never be overly critical of something free and generously given to you. I'll just deal with it and maybe invest in a SSD. By the way, if I change my mind and want to add CANAM or RHW, should I use the installer to do that?

You might want to try DATpacking the Network Addon Mod, along with a few other mods, custom content and dependencies, Make sure to organize the files first and to keep an unpacked version of the files in case you need to amend or remove anything. The game's loading time is largely dependent on the number of individual files the game needs to index and load into memory, more than the size of the files taken together.

This'll buy you a significant performance boost, even with a solid state drive.

Also, looking forward to your pedmall experiments!    :bunny:

Since the new installation (NAM47) many vehicles turned the way the photo shows. I cannot recall installing any vehicle files in the NAM folder. When NAM46 was installed everything was fine. After deleting the folder in plugins folder and installing the new version I get that issue. Any possible idea? Thank you. :)

If there's automata showing up with "RGBK" (Red-Green-Blue-Key) squares, that's a sign the textures for them are missing.  The NAM doesn't include any new freight truck automata, so it's likely that somehow, in the process of removing your NAM 46 installation, you accidentally removed the truck automata textures.  If you happen to know of any truck automata you've installed in the past, I'd suggest reinstalling those, and making sure they get installed in a place where they won't accidentally get deleted in a NAM upgrade.

A lesson there (one I learned the hard way myself), that the NAM folders are not the best place for customisations. But because you have a backup of the old install, if you can find the files needed within there, you can just restore them to Plugins without any fuss :)

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

Is it still possible to edit the travel preference percentages and transit fees in the post TSCT NAM releases?

I've seen appropriate data strings in iLives that seem to correspond to these values. Can it be edited and played with?

I will have a look, thank you. There wasn't only the trucks but also police cars, buses, quite a few textures from variable vehicles. The only folder that I have deleted was the Network Addon Mod folder. Never had that problem with other NAM releases and deletion of the NAM folder to re-install the new version. Trying to see what went wrong and a variety of vehicles is not showing up correctly. If it was just the trucks I wouldn't worry that much, its other vehicles too. I will have a look and hopefully sort it out. Thank you again for your help. :D

A quick update. All of the vehicles etc that went "RGBK" are in the plugins folder. I keep a backup of all of my plugins just in case anything is deleted by accident. I have copied and pasted them back to my plugins folder (overriting them) but problem persists. Maybe there was something in the Network Addon Mod folder (NAM 46) that is missing since the deletion of it and since I have re-installed NAM 47? Everything looks the same in both folders (Network Addon Mod v46 and v47).

Which download is this truck from, can you specify?

The thing is I am also experiencing an RGBK on one newly downloaded truck. Nothing has been done to it and I think that this is simply an uploader's oversight of not attaching the texture.

The thing is that these trucks were showing up properly when I had NAM46 but not with NAM47. These trucks are in my plugins folder and not on the NAM folder itself.

I can't recall them all by heart as it was quite some time since I've downloaded them. For police cars I am using GALLARDO Italian cop car which turns the cars into Lambo's. I cannot recall the rest but if a solution is found for one then probably I will be able to find a solution for the rest.

Also as I am in the game I've noticed that this have happened also (below picture, Space Port). Should I perhaps bring v46 back and just install v47 on top of it instead of deleting NAM 46 completely and installing v47? That is the only thing that I have done, deleted the folder as instructed and installed v47.

OK. But I don't think that NAM installation would plow these files over.

The thing also is that automata never appear all at once and sometimes you won't see some of them appear until very long. So it might also be the case that it is a coincidence and the offending truck was always there but simply appeared at a given (wrong) moment.

Doing this procedure is not recommended as you only get critical errors because you have two NAM versions. NAM always requires a clean install when making updates

My advice is to create a folder ZZZZ_AUTOMATA that is loaded at the end and insert inside all the mod automata

I don't know what to say, I am confused as its a plop building too that was showing fine before the installation. I never deleted anything else, :) just v46 and replaced it with v47.

What could I do to rectify the problem is the question as I have re-installed the possible files that could be missing (they weren't missing thats the odd thing) and still having the same problem. Plus the Space Port.

Maybe I need to delete a folder or more from these below to rectify the problem since the new NAM installation may not need some of them and causing me all the trouble.

I can always create the above folder too. What about the Space Port? That happened with the new installation of NAM.

An update to end things and let you know the outcome. Everything is back to normal. I have re-installed the plugins and still had the same problem on NAM47. Some trucks etc fixed and some of them were still "colourful" when deleted v47 and installed NAM46. To cut the story short, the setting in the game (where that screen icon shows and has settings to change) was changed from harware to software when I've installed NAM47 and thats what was causing the problem. I did not change that setting hence I didn't think that could be the problem.

Just saying that in case anyone else is experiencing that problem when they install NAM47 on their devices. Thank you all again for all of your help. :)

The thing is though, as developers we know exactly what the NAM installer can and can’t do. It literally only patches your SC4.exe, and adds a folder Network Addon Mod to the location used in the installer. The patch is a one-time thing and it does not alter either shortcuts nor launcher commands in any way. It is literally impossible for the NAM installer to have changed settings from Hardware to Software rendering.

None of this has the ability to affect custom content any more than it does game settings. Therefore even if you can’t explain things going missing or changing in this way, just because it seems to happen when upgrading NAM, it does not follow that the NAM is the problem.

The only legitimate way textures used on S3D models could get lost in the process was if you (the user), had put non NAM files into the Network Addon Mod folder, which you subsequently removed when upgrading.

Even in the event that models in use relied upon textures that existed within the NAM (plausable), i don’t know of any removed content or re-id’d files that could explain their sudden disappearance. For example, you clearly have a replacement for the Space Shuttle, because the regular one looks like this:

SpaceShuttle.jpg

Quite clearly an override exists somewhere that alters it and it is the textures for that mod that you are missing. The NAM doesn't contain a Saturn V rocket, this I can absolutely guarantee you. I don't know what download changes the shuttle, but you should since, you know, you downloaded and installed it.

Logically you have simply not got all the dependencies required for these items and the simplest solution is to find and re download them. How those files came to be missing, that’s not clear, but I assure you Installing NAM simply cannot be behind this.

I'll also add, I've only just looked at your screenshot of your Plugins folder and frankly, do you have any clue what order any of that loads in? Because it would take me a while to process the combinations of z's and underscores, do you fully understand how underscores affect load order for example? I'll compare this to one of my development Plugins sets, here is the root folder:

Plugins_Root.jpg

By using subfolders rather than putting everything into the root folder, it's really easy to get at anything and nothing is more than 3 folders deep. Whereas with all those folders you have floating around, I can't imagine you could find things easily in the event of a problem. This is the crux, are you willing to take a bit more time, organise things as you add them to Plugins and have a good system that works? Or, do you accept having constant problems that take ages to unravel because you've not invested a little time upfront to prevent it?

I'm sure the other Automata problem stems from something you have done, but where that needle in your haystacks of folders lies, well I can't tell you. But if you had a system which was organised, you shouldn't have any problems finding the files in question more easily. For example, guess where all my Automata mods reside?, Automata problem, I know where to start looking.

I never said that it was because of NAM, I said that that setting was changed after installed the NAM. Maybe I did not write my thought properly and that caused confusion. For sure I did not change it myself. What caused the change is unknown. Only said what happened after the installation.

Without being offensive, I do understand the above, I am not new in installing plugins and where. The whole problem was because the Software bit was checked and not the Hardware (which was the other way round and everything worked fine. When I have changed the setting back to Hardware everything was fixed, the shuttle was fixed, the trucks and cars were fixed and everything was back to normal.

I do have a clue for a strange reason haha! It wouldn't be the dependencies as everything were fixed when I have changed the setting back to Hardware. Once I install a plugin, to be honest, I leave it the way it is and check for dependencies also and if needed I do install them also right away. Most of the zzz's are installed like this by default and only a few I have changed myself as per directed in a thread or something.

Most of my plugins are in folders and subfolders but yeah, I should at some point create folders and add the plugins without a folder into folders but...I don't because I know where everything is for a strange reason and on the other hand I will be lost in a way to do this! :D I have a folder somewhere else where I keep all of the zipped plugins so if something goes wrong I go there, search them and re-installing them to sort any possible problem. I have a weird perhaps way of finding where everything is and sorting them out. Complicated way for others, simple for me. :)

Lastly, the problem was just a simple change in a setting which, I repeat, I did not change. I wouldn't be here asking for help if I have done such change. I might be a "newbie" in the forums as I am not chatting or typing much but I do play the game for many years. I just don't like to post as much. The change happened after the installation which, I don't blame NAM for it, just was saying what happened and I was wondering (in my mind) if NAM could do a change like that. You've said it does not do such change and now I know that NAM installer cannot do such change. When NAM is installed, I do not install any other plugin in that folder that does not belong to NAM. I have never installed anything else in there and probably I will never do. I don't know what caused the change (I did not change the setting, I can't stress that enough), mystery. Maybe the game changed the setting itself so it could load, wouldn't crash etc.? I wouldn't know if that is a posibility. :)

Again, thank you for all of your help and time for explaining things in more detail. Muchly appreciated. *:thumb:

Just to pop in here with something I remember...

I know several years ago (probably 15+ and pre-Windows 7) I had something alter the game settings whenever I did it. I say something becasue I can't for the life of me remember exactly what it was. It was definitely several computer systems ago, so perhaps that had something to do with it. Or it may have had something to do with what I installed, or maybe the way system updates were applied at the time. I just don't remember exactly, but I do remember being in the habit of checking the settings whenever I had certain issues.

I know that is not a very usefull example, but perhaps something similar could be related in this particular case (current technology passed up my obsolete knowledge a long time ago). It probably isn't a NAM installation issue, but something that happened at the same time. I would be curious if re-installing NAM 47 altered the settings a second time (maybe it was mentioned and I missed it).

Anyway, just thinking out loud... Feel free to ignore... ;)

According to the newer NAM documentation I read the new values are extremely fine tuned and editing them is guaranteed to result in degradation of the simulator, based on exhaustive amounts of testing.

The values still exist though of course as it's part of the game/simulator engine. Editing the values is probably only useful as experimentation, say if you're trying to gain a better understanding of what they do or how the game/simulator functions ect, but the result will always be a broken simulator, that was my interpretation of the documentation anyway.

I don't remember the specific page it's on, but it's there somewhere.

Anyway I was curious, is the skipping of these files by Datpacker actually benign?

It just happened when I've installed NAM47. That is why on my first post asked if that was the case.  Never blamed the actual file, it was what happened exactly after the new installation. Anyway, glad I am not the only one that had same problem. I have Windows 10 and as I see things like your case and mine are still happening. Thank you for that contribution.

I was looking forward to trying out the new draggable Pedmalls, unfortunately I am having a problem getting the NAM 47 to Install.
This problem is the same on my Desktop (Ubuntu 20.04) and my Laptop (Ubuntu 22.04).
I have included as much information as I could think of below.

On a related matter, I wanted to remind you to add the shebang as the first line in NetworkAddonMod_Setup_Version47.sh file.

    EXAMPLE:

    #!/bin/bash
    java -jar NetworkAddonMod_Setup_Version47.jar

Below I included all commandline inputs and the generated outputs.

    Notes:
    I made files executable.
    I have administrative privileges.
I have experience with java code and I did look inside the .jar and traced the stated line references in the error messages
but it is quite a bit of code to sort through so I am hoping someone already has the answer.

If you need more info please let me know and I will try to provide it.
    Thank You

Just an educated guess, but the Java version used to make the installer is positively archaic and almost certainly requires a specific legacy support for Java. As such, updating Java to the latest version may have removed such support, it might be worth trying it with the last version of Java that worked when installing NAM.

This exact error just came up recently for another linux user on discord, and it's also come up in the past.  See

In both cases, the issue was resolved by using sudo when running the installer jar.  You may try that if you're comfortable with it.  I don't think anyone has gotten to the root cause yet.  It seems to be somehow related to accessing an icon for the look and feel, but I don't know enough about java to speculate too much on it.

@rsc204 That did cross my mind but the instructions recommended a version of OpenJDK11, which is what I had installed, so when that did not work my instinct was to upgrade. What you say makes sense, so I will give that a try next.

@Flann I am comfortable with sudo, I use it a lot, but never needed it for a local file that already has permissions. Having said that, and since it would cause no harm, I will try that also. I do agree there is an issue with dimensions of an icon and it seems to also have a problem with the file tree.

Thanks to you both. I will post back as soon as possible.

PS: Was the issue with the bash file addressed?
