The laptop I currently use is perfectly sufficient for my needs. I bought it in 2011. It seems that the current trend is moving towards tablets but I definitely prefer a proper laptop over a tablet. That being said, I would say the same old rules still apply. If money is no issue, simply get the laptop best suited for your needs. If on a budget, prioritize.

Larks; Looks like both our teams couldn't hang for the long haul. However, should they meet in the post season, we should definitely make a wager of some kind.

Here's to the Pittsburgh Pirates for a season that was not to be forgotten.

And in the spirit of things, a pic of my best friend and I having a catch in the outfield of PNC Park. Pic was taken this season in May (I'm on the right). Best season ever.

I was on the field at Shea Stadium once years ago. They used to have events where after the game they'd let all the kids run around the bases.

And if anyone cares about tennis, I've been in the locker rooms at Arthur Ashe Stadium, where the US Open is held. I have a picture of Serena Williams' locker. Woo? :P

I've been on the field at Citizens Bank Park before, as when I was a kid they had kids run he bases day, and I did that all the time, which was good. I was never at that many games at the Vet, but who wants to see that dump of a stadium anyway

(Named worst NFL stadium 2000- until demolition)

Hahahah!  Veterans' Stadium!  Making us Vikings fan feel good about the Metrodome until the ceiling caved in two (three??) years ago!

I've played flag football and soccer on the astroturf in the Superior Dome, NMU's football stadium (also the largest wooden dome in the world).  I'm sure that would make a most excellent BAT.

1865: I've been on the Altona Ballpark and the Melbourne Showgrounds where they have the Australian Baseball League, is that good?

But who wants ice cream when it's cold out? It's a summer thing.

I think you're forgetting my place, or rather hemisphere of residence.

Nope, I'm not. Guess what? It's actually slightly colder in Melbourne this week than it is in New York. :D Seriously, look up the forecasts. You're in the 50's while we're in the 60's.

In the southern hemisphere October essentially equals April, and April is not ice cream weather here, either. Of course this varies based on latitude and local climate as well as by hemisphere. Closer to the equator ice cream can make sense year round.

The Pirates allow small groups of season ticket holders onto the field after a game a few times a year. This past May my number came up. If you bring a mitt, they provide a ball and you can have a catch. There were about 25 people that day, which makes for a more intimate experience. Everyone was hanging around right field but Ted and I just kept migrating towards left and nobody stopped us so it looks like we are all alone out there, but we weren't.

I can assure you that i can't throw to home plate from that outfield. I'm sure PNC Park has kid days where tons of kids are allowed on the field. I participated in a couple of days like that when I was young at Three Rivers Stadium. That day at PNC (that is pictured) was also mostly children but Ted and I couldn't care less. We are just a couple of big kids.

I keep ice cream in the house year round but I wouldn't be so inclined to go to an ice cream parlor in the winter.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Heh, more likely, his devastating knee injury in Minnesota killed his career, with Detroit being a more or less posthumous stop.

The Vikings should never have been moved indoors.  Honestly, a football team in Minnesota named the Vikings playing inside?  Something feels vaguely dishonest or disappointing about that.

I was at a Nationals-Phillies game in DC where it rained and we were stuck in the Nationals concourse for a hour or two and the only guy in the stands was a guy dressed as a lizard.

The Belgian national football team qualified for the 2014 World Cup! Now at place 4 in the FIFA ranking, possibly even third place. The last time there was such a craze about the national team was in 1986, when we went to the semi finals of the World Cup.

Incidentally, a poll was released on the day they qualified and it showed the lowest score for the Flemish nationalists since the elections in 2010 (the first time they score worse than 28% since 2010). A coincidence, but a funny one.

I find it odd that soccer is so unpopular here in the US while so many people play it as kids. I've probably said this before. I don't ponder the sport enough to have developed and new opinions about it.

Soccer has no natural commercial breaks so networks don't want to carry it.

Meanwhile, I am out of radio range so I'm pondering the following dilemma.  Do I:

    a)  Watch TV with the sound up, listening to Al Michael's biased calling of a Washington / Dallas game

    b)  Watch TV but listen to the internet radio which is a full 60 seconds behind the TV

    c)  Watch TV without sound

    d)  Turn off the TV and listen to the internet radio

So far, I'm going with option C

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

I don't find that odd at all. Everyone plays kickball as kids too, but no one is interesting in a professional league. Playing a game as kids is a distinctly different experience from watching other people play it competitively and the former does not necessarily breed interest in the latter.

There are a couple things that hold soccer in the US back: 1) we already have four big popular professional sports (football, baseball, basketball, hockey) and there isn't really room in the market for a fifth. 2) Soccer is a huge international thing (world cup, etc.) and lots of countries have their interest in it fueled by that. But in the US this is actually a barrier to interest because we really don't care to deal with other countries (except Canada, which most Americans don't think of as "foreign") in our professional sports.

1883: the same thing happens here. Although there is a professional association league in Australia and interest spikes sharply around World Cup time (this is the 3rd consecutive cup we have qualified for), people here prefer to be interested in Australian Rules football or rugby in the winter (depending on which part of the country you live in), and cricket in the summer. Although as a kid I remember playing soccer at lunchtimes, although once again this was often superseded by a game of footy or "marks up".

Also on a side note, would New Zealand be to Australia what Canada is to the US? We have several domestic leagues that have teams in New Zealand, in the way MLB/NHL/NBA does.

I'd consider it such. Would that make Papua New Guinea somewhat analogous to Mexico?

Sometimes people here are shocked when I tell them we don't watch soccer back in America.  They're like, "WHY SOCCER RULES BLAH BLAH BLAH!" and I usually tell them soccer is a horrid foreign game and Americans like American stuff because WE'RE NUMBER ONE!  USA! USA! USA! and then the kids join the chant and the Stars and Stripes unfurl overhead, complete with a flyby by the USAF's F22s and I jump in my Jeep and run off to do something SUPER American.  Like eat a hot dog and complain about the TSA.
