My parents' beagle  ate the entire arm of a couch about ten years ago.  Needed emergency surgery to remove a staple lodged in his intestines from the ordeal.  Needless to say, he did not consume any more furniture following the couch arm feast.

It's a small price to pay to have an adorable little fur ball around the house! Well, if you have second hand furniture like I do it's a small price to pay. The couch my cat shreds was given to me by my parents so it's not too big a deal.

Sometimes though, they don't appear to be all that sweet... I swear she looks like the dog monster from Ghostbusters here.

If you are concerned with wrecked furniture, you can declaw a cat. It isn't really recommended these days, especially for outdoor cats, but most animal clinics do it.

Those eyes, they're real scary D:.

My parents always state the reason why we cant have pets is that its either 'too expensive' or 'too much cleaning/fixing' or 'it'll die anyway' and 'We can't even afford our own food, why else a cat?'

Even if they're harmless, taking care of pets still takes time and money and places restrictions on your life (some apartments will be off limits to you, need a pet sitter before you go on vacation, etc.) I prefer to live my life free of such encumberments.

Cats are adorable and awesome, though and I love them... when they belong to someone else.

What's annoying is how people judge you for it. When I tell people that I hate dogs, some of them act like I must be some sort of horrible monster, as if no decent human being can not love dogs or something.

I don't hate dogs but I prefer to be away from them, especially since that dog bit me in the face 2 years ago. My friend's husky is cool though.

I would not de-claw a cat to be honest. My cat particularly should have her claws because she is blind. If she ever got out she will need those claws to defend herself.

As far as cost goes, food and cat litter runs me about $15-$20/ month. Annual vaccinations and shots is about $85/year. I have to pay an extra $50/month in rent to keep her at my apartment. So annual expense is about $900/year. Yikes, I guess that is a lot. It's the monthly rent that hikes it up though and my rent is very reasonable at $600/month (pet fee included) with all utilities (except electricity) included in the rent.

The argument that the pet will die anyway seems silly to me. Everything dies but I still go out and make friends with mortal beings.

Since birth I've always had a fear of dogs (cynophobia). And there are a lot of dogs here, especially in Fairmount Park (world's largest park in city limits). Ugh. But I like to hang around Center City, and that's not where dogs are.

I'm not afraid of dogs (my friend's dog is lying right next to me on the couch right now and I'm not bothered), I just find their loudness, messiness, and rambunctiousness to be unpleasant.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

I totally feel you on this. When I worked as an enumerator for the Census Bureau, I recall approaching a house and being greeted by a dog. I was comfortable with the dog's affection but I was disturbed by the result of the dog jumping all over me. When I worked the Census I represented the US Department of Commerce, and through that fact, I preferred to be as professional as possible. Hard to be professional with a series of claw marks on your front side.

That's why I'm a cat person. Cats mind their business.

But animals in general are suppose to be outside

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Badumtis? Why does it link to rimshot?

Never owned a gensies, but if they released Saturn soundtracks I'd buy a few, there were a few tracks I liked.

Also on the topic of music, It feels strange hearing the songs in the game but not as I knew them.

Larks, Genesis is the name of a band. Phil Collins is the lead singer. And they predate the game console of the same name. No relation, though: both are named after the first book of The Bible and are meant to reference "birth", "beginning", etc.

Ummm... aren't we supposed to talk about classic rock here? We're in the 1970s, and that's the peak era of classic rock! :P

The year is 1976 and The Who have launched an all out war on their fans which they are sure to win because their fans never throw the instruments back on stage.

Wait Collins? I know that name, The Tarzan guy, I don't know anything about the bible but if it meant birth of consoles, then it makes sense.
