To me these screenshots that show the tile sizes seem to look like you can build a metropolis if you use the space properly enough.

From the reddit page of iomex

Max City Size:

No highways

The micro simulation sounds excellent. I am still hoping the "big picture" is good.

So far, it sounds like a perfect SimTown. But will it be a good SimCity?

It does look a tad bigger, maybe because it is undeveloped.

Maybe they'll be updating the size of the maps later on?

Looks like it, it seems the biggest constraint with map size is ensuring that the Glassbox engine runs on every tile so once they figure that out... 4*4 maps, 8*8 or even larger?

Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage

I think that if they ever make larger maps, the way they'll do that is to reduce the number of agents required to transmit data back and fourth between homes and such. If that's possible, I don't know how they'll do that.

By the time they add larger maps PC would be twice as powerful. It only takes 2 years for computers to double performance.

According to the manual industrial zones have a tech level (although I'm nog sure what that means, but I think manufacturing/high tech/etc.?)

Also there are different city specializations, like mining, petroleum, etc.

But how that effects demand, I don't know.

Since the manual (located here: http://akamai.cdn.ea...City_Manual.pdf ) says how the SimCity Store will include free AND paid content, maybe, just maybe, they will release larger maps for free...

The link isn't working. Found another one: http://www38.zippyshare.com/v/70619750/file.html

Double that amount: A map with twice the dimensions has 2x2=4 times more surface area. Basic math ;)

Still, if it takes as much time to make regions as it does worlds in The Sims 3 then we'll be seeing quite a few in the long run.

And as I said before about highways: Prefabs would be too limiting and modularity would be too complex.

Good example of variations in the building styles of a specific specialization. Just wonder if it will be achieved by specialization combinations, say you'll get the Sci-Fi casinos with a well developed city specialized in gambling and high tech industries, and the elegant casinos with a city fostering both Casinos and Colleges. If this were the case it would eliminate my major concern that being forced to choose a specialization could reduce the freedom of construction, since the game would not only allow multiple-specialization but actually reward it. And just think of the depth it would add to the gameplay with the plethora of combinations rendered by the given specializable industries..

Well with parks...

All items must be placed alongside roads - which presents a problem for parks. Therefore, to create parks as I've done in those screenshots, you are able to use parks as modules of other parks, if that makes any sense. The parks you see in the screenshots are all 'attached' as modules to the 'parent' park, indicated by the icon.

Parks will try to infill gaps where possible, to allow you to seamlessly place them alongside curved roads, etc, but there is no 'flood-fill' option as in CXL

Those parking lots you see are 'field with parking lot' parks. Its basically a small square of grass with a parking lot.

We're used to SC4, where you could run amok with mass zoning and fill a city in 30 seconds, so these city sizes look far too small. However, I can assure you that playing with these cities is not nearly as bad as you'd think. It can feel a little claustrophobic when dealing with tall buildings, but overall, you're kept occupied enough that a small city tile doesn't really matter as much as you'd think.

Now all I want to see is if there is a rain effect visualization!

n96Hu3oh.jpg

Also, take a look at this image from the link iomex posted;

Look how simplified and complex, yet easy to read they've made the budget screen? I think it looks absolutely brilliant!

Yes, there is rain:

DPPVVmc.jpg

At higher zoom levels you see dense clouds with precipitation falling to the ground, at lower zoom levels you get mist.

Anyone know why at the highway exit there is always a werid crosswalk infront of the city border? and what is the building beside it, a sewage plant?
