Looks great, except I'd change the lights on the white building next to the church to something less yellow. Anyhow, since you've got us all interested into Melbourne, I've investigated a bit and found some things that are not on your list, but you wrote that if a building is not on the list and it's from Melbourne, we can tell you about it and you'll consider it. So these are a few of them. One from the following picture is on your list, but others ain't:

The one on the right you're doing but you're not doing the one in the middle and one on the far right.

Also, former police headquarters with or without addition would be nice:

Oh, yes... stunning!.. actually I had this idea to make these I would make a library of architectural 'bits' .. columns, arches, reliefs, gables etc, then they could be imported and attached in different configurations with different textures added to make rows of these types of buildings... less tedious. I've made a couple of these types of historical buildings now and it feels like I'm making the same bits over and over...

I just wanted to chime in here - I would love a set of older looking W2W buildings!  You could even take it a step further by modeling the facade and actual building (roof and 3 remaining sides) separately, and create a prop family for each of the two pieces.  That way you could really amp up the variety factor by letting the game randomly match the two pieces together.  And to really go over top, you could break the families down even further into 2 story, 3 story and 4 story sets.

In case this doesn't make any sense, Deadwoods created something along these lines with his 'small shop' set.  If any of this peaks your interest, I would be happy to help on the modding and lotting side.

BTW, the cathedral is really coming along nicely, and I also like the idea of ivy along one of the walls.

There's a new skyscraper in Melbourne? Why was I not informed?

There's three I'm aware of:

Australia 108: 70 Southbank Blvd 388m (Although according to Wikipedia has been shelved ??!  )

Prima Pearl: 31-49 Queensbridge Street 254m

Queensbridge Tower: 1-23 Queensbridge Street 276m

Did someone mention skyscrapers in Melbourne?

Australia 108 is being redesigned to be no taller than 312m, but their site has been taken down and doesn't look good.

Pearl is coming along amazingly, 2 months ahead of schedule.

And Queensbridge tower has bought the building next door, looks like this now.

There's also 'The Falls' which would slot inbetween Queensbridge and Pearl

There's 100s more going up in the city now, a brief look at them all (may cause your browser to lag)

http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=569418

The one in the CBD that was approved, is the 404m, 555 collins street. (Which is going to be lowered dramatically due to overshadowing the Yarra)

Can't wait for the Cathedral to be released!! :D

(Sorry for image blasting your thread, Red)

    Thanks everyone.

    • Edwardjeria - sorry you lost me on that one, but it all sounded pretty complimentary, so thanks!
    • Thanks Roger, Dubaidude & Cheddar :)
    • Vlasky, thanks for those suggestions. Not sure if you saw the recent posts with Yoshi (and SimCoug just after yours), I think these types of w2w row buildings will fall into that category, meaning I don't think I'd make one-offs of these buildings with blank walls on two sides, I will probably make/release them as a row "sets". I'm intrigued though how, of all the buildings in Melbourne you spotted that one..! I would have barely noticed it.
    • The former police HQ is not to my taste, but, well is it still a Melbourne City Police Station? If so, I'm going to need to make one sooner or later :) Oh yeah, I agree on the coach lanterns too, they do need to be less yellow..
    • SimCoug, thats a great suggestion, I haven't checked out Deadwoods in too much detail yet, but I like the concept you're describing. I've got two more projects currently in the pipeline, and one I'm about to start once I finish the Cathedral, but after that I think some of these row-buildings will be a great (and potentially versatile) way to fill in some city spaces. And I'll more than gladly take up your offer to do some of the lotting and modding, that's my least favourite part :P
    • CityMaster, another building enthusiast! That's great information thanks for sharing :)

    On the Cathedral:
I've decided to do away with the ivy. I can't get the opacity map to work against the brick wall. The colour just washes out or turns completely grey. Its a shame, it was looking quite good in the viewport. I've opted for a grungy wall instead :)

And if required due to gap next to the building and grungy wall being regarded as a tad too grungy for the area in question:

Open grass lots + MMP trees = empty wall covered - both literally and figuratively speaking.

BATs on ST are just getting better and better! Great work!

Perosnally I'd opt for the grunge instead of something else. Nearly all buildings, especially those which are relatively old, exhibit such textures. Great work so far!

In terms of night light (lighted windows) distribution trough the building, this is certainly one of your best outcomes. It looks really good. Tho maybe in a day view windows could be more reflective. I see they're transparent but still they tend to look very pitch black.

To answer to your previous question/remark, I like the view of the 'recreated' Melbourne you showed before and so I wanted to compare it to the real thing. Now being that you're recreating the entire city (lol) and accept suggestions, I threw myself at looking for Art Deco in Melbourne and found thing that I showed you.

The police station isn't functional anymore but there is a huge glass tower attached to it and I believe it's residential now. Before addition it was police headquarters, so if you do what you did with Tribune was it, you could have two things in the end.

Looks great so far, and it´s good to see an international building from Melbourne. But Im agree with Vlasky, your glass need more reflections in my opinion :)

I would like see an Art Deco made by you ;)

I just saw the thread (just got locked ;) ).. Thanks whoever bumped this actually! This is exactly what I need to do. Does anyone know how the effect of the bridges was achieved? I have no idea how else to get my bridges into the game, this is exactly what I need to recreate, Yarra style :thumb:

Edit: That's an optical illusion, right? Its a completely flat LOD with a sunken model rendered onto it, and props on the side for anything above ground (a bit like when creating an underground rail transition)... I think I can do this  !

    xdyb.jpg

Thanks for the feedback on the Optus Centre.. I'll check the glass, I have a feeling I must have hid the ground plane when I rendered those images, I thought the glass was looking much better than that. I will check :)

    Loving the Optus Centre!

Those bridges already look amazing! I think what most people do is to make it an overhanging lot (for pedestrian bridges at least) Not sure about road bridges though, might have to be an overhanging lot too but I'm not sure. :P

Thanks Robkaper, best bump ever ;)

Here's an export of the Optus Centre glass, but this one definitely has the ground map and the reflections are more visible. Let me know what you all think?

(you could have real fun with these bridge pieces couldn't you :P )
