    May, 54EL: Recovery

Leech2.pngLyhoko: The results of the poll are as follows: 4 votes for an additional village, 0 votes for southward expansion, and 10 votes for expanding on the peninsula.

    GB-19-1.jpg

For the first time, there's true apartment towers in town, built up along the coast. These all by themselves have increased the population of the region by a significant amount.

    GB-19-2.jpg

And again, this time at night. The architects could go with a bit more variety, though

    GB-19-3.jpg

Meanwhile, the inland region is not much different from the rest of the peninsula's development, with houses and scattered commercial buildings.

    GB-19-4.jpg

And an overview of all of the new development, all the way back to the park.

Leech2.pngLyhoko: There seems to be a hole in the fabric of space to the north of town...

    GB-19-5.jpg

And more overview, this time of the southern part of town. The port area seems to have been fixed up since the hurricane.

    GB-19-6.png

    And of course, the map.

Leech2.pngLyhoko: Portieo and Puronda are again the next planets out in the system.

    Poll

Leech2.pngLyhoko: What should be added to town next?

Leech2.pngLyhoko: Remember to look closely at which option is which number when voting. Don't say something like "3 - expand Galesfeburg." 3 is expand the unburg area, expanding Galesfeburg is 2.

Leech2.pngLyhoko: Unburg is a Myonian term for an unincorporated village. The one referred to here was shown last update.

    Leech2.pngLyhoko: Voting is now closed!

    1: 4 votes

Add in a ferry network to connect Galesfeburg with the unburg and allow for development on the north side of the river.

    2: 1 vote

    Expand Galesfeburg

    3: 0 votes

Expand the area around the unburg

    4: 5 votes

Connect the Galesfeburg region with the Myonian highway network

Leech2.pngLyhoko: Please choose one option at a time... but you may vote more than once, as long as you do not double post. Let other people have a chance to vote!

Definitely signs of growth here. I think it'll be time for a highway connection.

    Mapping

Leech2.pngLyhoko: And here is a basic tutorial/outline of how Lyhoko comes up with the maps.

    GB-19-7.jpg

Leech2.pngLyhoko: To start out, one needs the map from SC4 in order to know just where all the streets are at to begin with.

Leech2.pngLyhoko: If you're starting out with an already established city, rather than building your map as you build your city, a basic map using the "All Off" setting can be helpful to allow you to easily figure out the coastline without roads getting in the way.

Leech2.pngLyhoko: Using the volume+car/train/other settings can also help for established cities, in order to distinguish road and rail lines.

    GB-19-8.png

Leech2.pngLyhoko: Once you have the map, or maps, paste them into an image editing program of some sort that can handle layers and transparencies. Lyhoko uses Paint.NET.

Leech2.pngLyhoko: Lyhoko is also assuming that you know how to use whatever program you chose well enough, as well.

Leech2.pngLyhoko: Trim it down so that the only part you have is the map itself, without any border.

Leech2.pngLyhoko: In this case, Lyhoko colored the water so that the coastline was easier to see, and for each new update, only the part that was changed was added to the base map file, so the result is somewhat messy.

Leech2.pngLyhoko: If you have multiple maps, place each on its own layer.

    GB-19-9.png

Leech2.pngLyhoko: Then you may need to resize it, as it is likely too small. Lyhoko uses a scale of 2m per pixel, or 8 pixels per SC4 tile. This requires a scale increase of 800% for a large city tile, 400% for a medium city tile, and 200% for a small city tile, as the in SC4 maps are all the same size (256x256).

Leech2.pngLyhoko: Final size will be 512x512 pixels for a small city tile, 1024x1024 for medium, and 2048x2048 for a large at the 8 pixels per SC4 tile scale.

Leech2.pngLyhoko: Use the "nearest neighbor" resizing option so that the scaled version remains blocky so you can still see individual tiles.

Leech2.pngLyhoko: Different programs will have different menus, but should have the same or similar features.

    GB-19-10.png

Leech2.pngLyhoko: Another layer is just a flat white-ish background, with stuff like parks and other things colored out. For the actual colors, Lyhoko uses the same ones from Google Maps.

Leech2.pngLyhoko: Hide this layer if it gets in the way, which it usually will.

Leech2.pngLyhoko: On a layer above that, trace out the coastlines and fill in the water. Again, color from Google Maps. For this layer, and any above it, it should be initially completely transparent.

    GB-19-11.png

Leech2.pngLyhoko: On a new layer, trace out the roads. In this case, side roads are 8 pixels wide, and main roads are 10. Color is a basic gray.

Leech2.pngLyhoko: On a separate layer, trace out rails. In this case, color is an alternating checkerboard of black and dark gray. Width is 4 pixels per rail.

    GB-19-12.png

Leech2.pngLyhoko: On a another layer, between the road base and the rails, trace over the roads again with the main color, width is 2 pixels less than whatever the base is. (6 for side streets, 8 for main roads.)

Leech2.pngLyhoko: Some cleanup may be necessary when drawing the lines.

    GB-19-6.png

Leech2.pngLyhoko: And on a final layer, type out the names. For the vertical names, Lyhoko types them out in a separate image, then rotates that image by 90 degrees, then copies the names back.

Leech2.pngLyhoko: Actually coming up with the names is a matter of imagination.

Leech2.pngLyhoko: The final layer order, starting from the top, is the following: names, rails, road surfaces, road base, water, basic land, original SC4 map(s).

    Leech2.pngLyhoko: Any questions?

    Poll

Leech2.pngLyhoko: What should be added to town next?

Leech2.pngLyhoko: Remember to look closely at which option is which number when voting. Don't say something like "3 - expand Galesfeburg." 3 is expand the unburg area, expanding Galesfeburg is 2.

    1. Ferries!

Nice job on the mapping and the journalling, quite entertaining to read and watch the town develop.

    October, 54EL: Highway

Leech2.pngLyhoko: The results of the poll are as follows: 4 votes for a ferry, 1 vote for expanding Galesfeburg, 0 votes for expanding the unburg area, and 5 votes for a highway.

    GB-20-1.jpg

And now another first for the region, the first truly major road. Off to the right is the unburg, and to the left is Nyuumau.

    GB-20-2.jpg

And right in the middle is a random farming tower, for some reason. There shouldn't be any need for these quite yet...

    GB-20-3.jpg

And the edge of Nyuumau, just to the south.

    GB-20-4.jpg

Continuing farther to the west, there's another onramp/offramp intersection, though nothing's developed here.

    GB-20-5.jpg

And oops, the highway's not quite complete yet...

    GB-20-6.jpg

This is where the street that meets the highway connects to the rest of the road network. Up off the top is Galesfeburg, down off the bottom is Nyuumau.

    GB-20-7.png

And of course, the map. Nyuumau area only.

    Leech2.pngLyhoko: S for shiedpeþ - highway.

Leech2.pngLyhoko: Don't confuse the two different route three's.

    Poll

Leech2.pngLyhoko: What should be added to town next?

    January, 55EL: Ferry

Leech2.pngLyhoko: The results of the poll are as follows: 4 votes for a ferry, 1 vote for expanding Galesfeburg, and 0 votes for expanding the unburg area.

    GB-21-1.jpg

The highway as finally been finished, and for now it ends at Mien St. to the east of Galesfeburg. Mien St. has been upgraded as well as a part of the construction process.

    GB-21-2.png

And of course, the map. Wait, What? The update just started! It's not time for maps yet!

Leech2.pngLyhoko: "Cyuu" is Myonian for "Sow" or "Female Pig."

    GB-21-3.jpg

And moving on into Galesfeburg, development has spread down to the south side of the peninsula, with similar buildings as the rest of the region.

    GB-21-4.jpg

A ferry terminal has sprouted as well, along with another apartment tower. At least this one has a different design.

    GB-21-5.png

    And the map.

Leech2.pngLyhoko: "San" is Myonian for "sun."

    GB-21-6.jpg

The unburg has sprouted another street as well as a ferry terminal.

    GB-21-7.jpg

Meanwhile on the northern bank of the river, yet another town has appeared. It looks somewhat big, but that's pretty much all of it right there.

    GB-21-8.jpg

Couple of farms there, as well.

    GB-21-9.png

Oh, look, another map. Looks like this place is an unburg too... What should it be named?

Leech2.pngLyhoko: "Shied" is still "head," "shieð" is still forest, and "i" is Myonian for "river."

    GB-21-10.jpg

And a region view, as there hasn't been one in awhile. Galesfeburg on the left, Nyuumau on the bottom right, the new settlement on top, and the older unburg at far right, with farms connecting it to Nyuumau.

    Poll

Leech2.pngLyhoko: What should be added to town next?

Leech2.pngLyhoko: Remember to look closely at which option is which number when voting. Don't say something like "3 - expand Galesfeburg." 3 is expand the southern riverbank, expanding Galesfeburg is 2.

    Leech2.pngLyhoko: Voting is now closed!

    1: 1 vote

    Expand the northern riverbank region

    2: 3 votes

    Expand Galesfeburg

    3: 2 votes

    June, 55EL: Marina

Leech2.pngLyhoko: The results of the poll are as follows: 1 vote for expanding the north shore, 3 votes for expanding Galesfeburg, and 2 votes for expanding the south shore.

    GB-22-1.jpg

I do believe that's the tallest building in the region... And there's only 10,000 or so people in the city!

    GB-22-2.jpg

Easily visible from the residential towers on this side of the city is the new marina. The ferry terminal is nearby as well.

    GB-22-3.jpg

And more, including the boat ramp. Careful, Myonian cars can sometimes fly, but they tend not to float very well.

    GB-22-4.jpg

And the coast is as lit up as always.

    GB-22-5.jpg

There's also been some development down by the industrial area, though not as much, and most of it is new farms. The cows are phasing though the fences again...

    GB-22-6.jpg

Train! Hopefully the cows that phase though fences just phase though the trains as well... Also, there's about 6 pastures in this region, for some reason.

    GB-22-7s.png

And of course, the map. Click for full size. Big in number of pixels, but in terms of file size, it's the smallest image in the update.

Leech2.pngLyhoko: That An # road designation is for random country roads that don't have any other name. At least it isn't named An 3.

    Poll

Leech2.pngLyhoko: What should be added to town next?

Leech2.pngLyhoko: Remember to look closely at which option is which number when voting. Don't say something like "3 - expand Galesfeburg." 3 is expand the southern region, expanding Galesfeburg is 2.

    Leech2.pngLyhoko: Voting is now closed!

    1: 1 vote

    Expand the northern riverbank region

    2: 2 votes

    Expand Galesfeburg

    3: 1 vote

    September, 55EL: Buses

Leech2.pngLyhoko: The results of the poll are as follows: 1 vote for expanding the north shore, 3 votes for expanding Galesfeburg, 1 vote for expanding the south shore, and 6 votes for a bus system.

    GB-23-1.jpg

In order to get a reasonable bus system going, there needs to be a hub somewhere. And here it is, located somewhat centrally... well, its located at the corner between the two wings of the city. Also located nearby is the main train station, and the so-called spaceport that's more of an open paved area... and a car getting t-boned.

    GB-23-2.jpg

And here is one of the regular bus stops, in this case the Field/Staar station on the red/green lines.

    Leech2.pngLyhoko: "Wienpurt" is "Bus stop."

    GB-23-3.jpg

Even that one unburg near Galesfeburg has it's own stop. The blue line here then continues on to Nyuumau, where there are another three stops.

    GB-23-4.jpg

And in non-bus related news, another farming street appeared. There were plans on connecting it to the highway like this...

    GB-23-5.jpg

But it just ended up like this for some reason. The highway ends shortly after this intersection so it doesn't matter much now...

    GB-23-6.jpg

Eh? I didn't know cats could drive...

    GB-23-7s.png

And of course, the map. But not the normal map. Click for full size, but it might be readable at shrunken size.

Leech2.pngLyhoko:"Wienniepran" is "Bus map," "overgoo" is "transfer," "weinpeþ" is "bus route," "niera toopurt" is "nearby train station," and "purvurt" is "turn" or "corner."

    1: 0 votes

    Expand the northern riverbank region

    2: 4 votes

    Expand Galesfeburg

    3: 0 votes

    Expand the southern riverbank region
