In one reality Galesfeburg is more commonly known as Galesfe City, and it is the largest city in Myon. In another reality at a different time, it hasn't even been founded yet. Where will the city start? How will it grow and develop? You decide!

Most updates will end with a poll with several options of what to do for additions to the city, or in the case of the first update, where to start Galesfeburg to begin with.

It has been decided that the region around where the Yanar River meets the Melemon Ocean is a good location to start a new city, but where exactly in this region should the city be built? The specific location chosen will impact how the city develops, and can also impact the events that occur in the city as well as how the city reacts to these events.

    GB-1-1.jpg

Location 1 is located along the coast, just to the south of the river. There is plenty of room for now, but if Galesfeburg does become a large city, it will have to expand more along the river, as that is the only nearby open area, with mountains to the south...

    GB-1-2.jpg

Location 2 is also located along the coast, but to the north of the river. There is plenty of room for now, but if Galesfeburg does become a large city, it will have to expand more along the river, as that is the only nearby open area, with mountains to the north...

    GB-1-3.jpg

Location 3 is the south bank of the river itself, farther inland. There is plenty of room, though the river itself is massive, and forms almost as much of an obstacle as the ocean does. Ferries are an option, however...

    GB-1-4.jpg

Location 4 is located on a nearby lake and located just within the mountains. The coast is visible from the mountaintop, so expanding to there will still be relatively easy in the future...

    GB-1-5.jpg

An overview of the region, showing all 4 of the starting locations, and the nearby land. There are more mountains to the south of the map, while flat land continues off to the east along the river.

    Poll

    1: 7 votes

Disadvantages: No protection from hurricanes, less room to expand

Woo hoo! Glad to see you back! I say Option 1. The location is good and hurricanes aren't THAT bad...

Option 4 would perhaps be more interesting but a bit illogical. Option 1 is the best place to start in my opinion as well!

    August, 46EL: Beginnings

Leech2.pngLyhoko: The results of the poll are as follows: 7 votes for location 1, 2 votes for location 2, 2 votes for location 3, and 0 votes for location 4.

Leech2.pngLyhoko: Galesfeburg will start out on the ocean south of the Yanar river, on an area that approximates a natural harbor. Incidentally, the other timeline's version started out around location 3.

    GB-2-1.jpg

Nerone route 3 is the first major road that reaches all the way to the coast. For most of its length, there's nothing but forest, and in some places this forest is thick enough to completely hide the road from view from above.

    GB-2-2.jpg

However, occasionally there are small towns or farms along the road, as people begin to settle in this largely untouched region. In this case, there's some corn and bee-- er, barley, being grown, among other things.

    GB-2-3.jpg

Just a bit farther along the road we come to the small town of Galesfeburg. The center of town has a small shopping district, along with the basic amenities, like police, healthcare, and so on.

This isn't the old days, however, so it's easier to build a town out in what is basically the middle of nowhere, as small transport starships can drop off supplies when needed, such as portable fusion generators to take care of power needs.

    GB-2-4.jpg

The northern part of town, the farthest from the town center, doesn't seem to be as well off. Though those prefabricated houses are a lot easier to set up.

    GB-2-5.jpg

On the western edge of town is the ocean, along with a couple docks and a basic beach, which is more of a flat sandy area that has been cleared of trees than anything else right now.

    GB-2-6.jpg

And an overview of town. I think it's a bit early to put lights in the trees...

    GB-2-7.png

A map! Not much here yet... but it'll grow.

Leech2.pngLyhoko: Weþureeg means roughly "waterfront," and shied is "head," or in this case, "main." So, Waterfront Street and Main Street.

    Poll

Leech2.pngLyhoko: What should be added to town next?

    Leech2.pngLyhoko: Voting is now closed!

    1: 1 vote

Add an actual beach area, instead of a random flat sandy area

    2: 1 vote

Build a park, to add safer places for children to play

    3: 6 votes

More housing, so the town can expand faster

Leech2.pngLyhoko: Please choose one option at a time... but you may vote more than once, as long as you do not double post. Let other people have a chance to vote!

The map looks good. I say you need more housing or there won't be a need for much else.

Yeah... I'm throwing in a third vote for housing. It's going to grow into a metropolis anyway, let's speed it up!

I'll say 3 as well. If there were more houses I would vote for the beach though.

    Comments:

Benedict: One of 3 or 4, actually. (Galesfeburg, DPM, DPI... other DPI) DPM/I = Dierapyamuk Myon/Invasion

Schulmanator: Hurricanes on Maiyan can be quite bad sometimes... Thankfully, they aren't every time.

    vivapanda: Yeah, it probably is.

    SimCoug: Glad you like it!

Schulmanator2: There's probably going to be a little more housing added in every update, There's just going to be a lot more if the "more housing" option is chosen.

Benedict2: Just make sure they watch out for stuff like gutarxa (Myonian dinosaur-looking animals) and other stuff... Though gutarxa themselves are normally friendly.

hotChocolate: As long as is doesn't suffer from growing pains...

jacksunny: The beach and other options are likely to show up again in later polls, as well.

    January, 47EL: Growth

Leech2.pngLyhoko: The results of the poll are as follows: 1 vote for a new beach, 1 vote for a park, and 6 votes for a housing boost.

Leech2.pngLyhoko: Looks like the town has roughly doubled in size.

    GB-3-1.jpg

Starting back at the coast, already people are building new houses to replace old ones. Isn't that a bit of a waste at this point?

    GB-3-2.jpg

The farms are quiet this time of year, even though the climate is such that crops could be grown year-round. ...Is it getting darker?

    GB-3-3.jpg

And now it's raining. Several additional streets or extensions of previous streets have provided room for quite a bit of new development, especially considering the small size of the town to start out with.

    GB-3-4.jpg

A couple of new farms have been added as well, though there really isn't much of interest growing yet.

    GB-3-5.jpg

Leech2.pngLyhoko: In unrelated news, this style of trees is much easier to plant.

    GB-3-6.png

And the latest map, this time zoomed out slightly. This'll be useful once the city gets bigger. Note that "k" refers to the Myonian unit of length "kesa(n)". 1 kesa is roughly 2 feet, and 5 kesan are roughly 3 meters.

    Poll

Leech2.pngLyhoko: What should be added to town next?

    Leech2.pngLyhoko: Voting is now closed!

    1: 3 votes

Add an actual beach area, instead of a random flat sandy area

    2: 3 votes

Build a park, to add safer places for children to play

    3: 2 votes

Additional farms, to reduce the town's reliance on outside food supplies.

    4: 4 votes

More housing, so the town can expand faster

Leech2.pngLyhoko: Please choose one option at a time... but you may vote more than once, as long as you do not double post. Let other people have a chance to vote!

I will vote for a park this time around. I think the town is big enough for it.

    June, 47EL: Thousand

Leech2.pngLyhoko: The results of the poll are as follows: 3 votes for a new beach, 3 votes for a park, 2 votes for farms, and 4 votes for expansion.

Leech2.pngLyhoko: It was a lot closer this time...

    GB-4-1.jpg

Galesfeburg finally has its own powerplant, a geothermal plant to be specific. It is located on a street off to the east of town.

    GB-4-2.jpg

The population in town has just recently reached one thousand people, and a residence for the mayor has been constructed as well.

    GB-4-3.jpg

Most of the expansion this time has occurred in the northern part of town. There seems to be a surprising amount of boats just scattered around in people's yards...

    GB-4-4.jpg

There's been some expansion in the south part of town, but not nearly as much. The farms are more active now, though.

    GB-4-5.jpg

However, with all of this growth, we come to a bit of a problem. The police, fire, schooling and healthcare facilities are all located in the center of town, and the recent development has reached the edge of their effective service area. If the town is to expand further, new facilities will need to be added elsewhere.

    GB-4-6.jpg

The current region view isn't much to look at yet, but it does give an overview of the region.

    GB-4-7.png

    And, of course, the map.

Leech2.pngLyhoko: "Shieð" is "forest," "myuuþ" is "(river) mouth", and "mien" is "power." Note the "þ" instead of "th" in 4þ. Don't confuse "shied" and "shieð..."

    Poll

Leech2.pngLyhoko: Due to the current state in the town, there are two polls for this update!

Leech2.pngLyhoko: Note that choosing one of the options in the first poll does not mean that the town will necessary expand right now. When exactly the town expands will be determined by the second poll.

    Leech2.pngLyhoko: Voting is now closed!

    A: 3

Expand to the north, to the opposite coast

    B: 2

Expand along the coast to the south

    C: 4 ... (maybe 5?)

Expand along the coast to the west

    D: 2 ... (maybe 1?)

    Expand inland, to the east.

Leech2.pngLyhoko: What should be added to town next?

    1: 0

Add an actual beach area, instead of a random flat sandy area

    2: 2

Build a park, to add safer places for children to play

    3: 4

Additional farms, to reduce the town's reliance on outside food supplies.

    4: 5

More housing, so the town can expand faster

Leech2.pngLyhoko: Please choose one option per poll at a time... but you may vote more than once, as long as you do not double post. Let other people have a chance to vote!

B3. I don't know why, but Idea of long, narrow city along the shore is nicest of all for me. And it is a little too early for park or some quite huge project as actual beach area. And city can't expand without it's own source of food. So food and food again. More independent city will be, the better!

    December, 47EL: Elbow

Leech2.pngLyhoko: The results of the first poll are as follows: 3 votes for north, 2 votes for south, 4 votes for west and 2 votes for east... or is it 5 votes for west and 1 for east? Either way, west wins, though.

Leech2.pngLyhoko: The results of the second poll are as follows: 0 votes for a beach, 2 votes for a park, 4 votes for farms, and 5 votes for expansion.

    GB-5-1.jpg

For the first time, the waterfront area has expanded, with additional waterfront buildings as well.

    GB-5-2.jpg

There was also the first case where preexisting development had to be removed to extend a street... Or A Striet to be precise. Also, Weþureeg Striet has been upgraded as the town has been expanded off to the side. Also, apparently a bus has appeared in the town...

    GB-5-3.jpg

Some additional development on the inland side of the waterfront has appeared as well, along with the standard housing districts.

    GB-5-4.jpg

Farther inland, the development digs into the thick forest of the delta region, with plenty of more room to expand.

    GB-5-5.jpg

A small spaceport has also appeared nearby, though for now the only ships capable of landing are small transports.

    GB-5-6.png

    And, of course, the map.

Leech2.pngLyhoko: "Staar" is "star," that one should be easy. The other two are not Myonian, but rather Zukish, for a bit of a change. "Ip" is "west", and "Mtm" is "planet."

    Poll

    Leech2.pngLyhoko: Voting is now closed!

    1: 0 votes

Add an actual beach area, instead of a random flat sandy area

    2: 6 votes

They are certainly moving along. Now that they have a spaceport and some more waterfront amenities, how about a nice park?
